I've been working for Medquist/M-Modal now for 11 years Full-time. I was one of those grandfathered in that took a pay cut last year as Medquist deemed they would not pay above .10 cents a line.

Now the kicker to all this is I have a friend who I just got hired, and her initial OFFER was to START at .10 cents a line.

I don't know how the rest of you feel, but I am appalled at this ... how someone can start at the top wage. I have already sent an email expressing my feelings to the new CEO; I can't WAIT to hear the excuses ... and I'm sure one of them is you're not to share your salary information!

She does not have to have the years experience - with the company just as long as

she has them. If she has been a transcriptionist for many years and is highly experienced and hired in at a tier 3 that is normal and totally understandable. She may never get an increase because she started off at top pay. But that is the reasoning I am sure for her cpl - She hired in at a tier 3 and has many years experience.

May varies with tier level and years experience, not how long you have been with company.

whether all the years were spent at MQ doesn't matter, what matter is that she has them and they feel thats what she is worth.

You need to remember that she will get only a few sm - mqmt

reports each week of straight transcription. ASR is about 90 to 95% unless it is not an ASR account. So she really isn't going to make that much money. The Q hires MTs and make them think they are going to make such good money and that is not what is going to happen. So I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

I was offered 10 cpl also when I passed their testing; however 95% of the work is VR at 4 cpl and I decided I wouldn't make much $$$ no matter what my line rate was if there was nothing to do as far as a lot of straight transcription. Turned em down and never looked back. I also have 28 years plus experience and that is why was offered the Tier 3 pay.

$.10 per line?! Who is making that?! Although I've only been working for MedQuist/MModal for 5 years, I was a transcriptionist at a hospital/clinic/nursing home for 10 years. I currently make 4-1/2 cents per line for SR. I used to make 7-1/2 cents per line (I still do for straight transcription, which is few and far between and mostly full of blanks because it's the difficult dictators!). I would like to know how much the company is charging each facility as opposed to what we get paid!

Not sure why you are so low for your transcription rate, or ASR rate. What tier are you? I would ask for a raise.

was at over 12 CPL, but not cut down to just over 10 CPL, plus the fact that majority of work is now on ASR, so even less. went from over $25 per hour (calculated for PTO) to just over $16. My daughter makes that as a CNA!

I am looking at ads here and keep seeing things like 3 cpl for editing. Who could work for that rate and why? These MTSOs really need an awakening. No one should work for 3 cpl. Is there anyone who does editing for that kind of rate and actually earns a living? I say more MTs need to stand up for themselves and say no to this. Just sayin'. ...

Greetings, fellow transcriptionists. I've been in the field for over 15 years. Due to a recent buyout of my current MTSO by a huge conglomerate, there is talk of our line rates being cut, apparently down to as low as 8 cents a line. Does getting paid for spaces add about 2 cents to line rate? I was getting 10 cpl for an account (not paid for spaces) and then lost that to offshoring. The new account pays 8 cpl, but paid for spaces, so they say that's equivalent. Does that sound right? Is that the average rate now? Browsing through the job listings (again), and noticing 7 cpl for IC!? WHAT? Why is this industry allowed to get away with this crap! I worked for the same company for 17 years before the MQ acquired it. I ended up quitting in 2004. I have decided I will not accept any MT transcription rates lower than 9 cpl (in an employee position) or 11 cpl (in an IC position). For medical editing, I'm not going to work for lower than 50% of the transcription rate. For me, it will just not be worth it to do it for less. Can anyone explain to me the line rates on the new pay stubs. Mine is not showing my actual lines, just the money. When I go to the web site for the breakdown it shows 4 different rates that seem to vary from week to week. They are Week 1 TR, Week 2 TR, Week 1 SR and week 2 SR. So, here it goes -- We all know the medical transcription industry has really gone downhill with regard to our pay. I currently just lost about $10/hour to change to editing and I have been doing it for several months hoping that it would get better, but it has not. This is just crazy to me.
