Going rates? - curious

I have been working as an MT for a little over 2 years now and was wondering what the going rates for transcription and editing reports are? I am currenly an IC doing only transcription at a rate of $0.065 per line. The line is definced as 65-black character line and it does not include spaces. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

At that rate of pay, it is my suggestion to begin looking - for a new job immediately

You are being paid one of the lowest wages for IC status straight typing that I have ever heard of in my life. I would say RUN â�¦ don't walk â�¦ to find another job because you are being screwed BIG TIME.

8 for straight and 4 for editing (give or take). No offense, but you are being robbed. I work directly for a clinic making 12 with spaces as an IC and a hospital making 10-12 as an employee.

Agree 100% with above posters. Even with only 2 yrs experience, you should be getting more than that. When I started out 11 yrs ago, I started at 0.07 (or 0.075, can't remember) per 65-character line including spaces. Now at .10 and 0.095/line including spaces as an IC for two MTSOs. But to find anything decent nowadays is getting really hard and instead of raises, I'm getting pay cuts... hence, the 0.095/line; was at .10 for both MTSOs until recently. I'd say you are definitely being taken advantage of by staying with that MTSO for that kind of pay. Good luck to you.

Thank you for the advice. I think I may start looking around, but I need to get through the holidays first. Moving on is a hard step for me. I think if I keep going with where I am at though, my skills may deteriorate as well and I don't want that to happen.

What pittance rates DOES MQ pay these days for VR and for straight typing? (Again, as I mentioned elsewhere on the board, I ask because my department is beginning union pay negotiations as we move to using DocQSpeech for most of our work, so I expect management will be trying to use MQ's pay rates as their point of reference.) Do you think the MTSOs cut their rates to their clients who are now using VR just as they have cut their MTs rates? Seems that some MTSOs are scrambling for some reason to cut everyone's pay down (even their MT pay, not just ME pay). I wonder if they are in over their heads with this new venture into VR and losing their arses and realizing it isn't quite the godsend everyone is making it out to be. I am an IC in northeast Ohio. Anyone know what the going rate is for QA editors in this part of the country? Does the price vary from state to state that much? I've been working for Medquist/M-Modal now for 11 years Full-time. I was one of those grandfathered in that took a pay cut last year as Medquist deemed they would not pay above .10 cents a line. Has anyone received a letter about calculating your new benefit rate? I have had the same rate since probably last spring. I don't think they are calculating them every six months even though they say they do. I went on vacay in June and I am making the same benefit rate now that I was then. That was 8 months ago. I am looking at ads here and keep seeing things like 3 cpl for editing. Who could work for that rate and why? These MTSOs really need an awakening. No one should work for 3 cpl.
