Is this insane? - ConsideringMQ

Posted: Jun 20, 2010

I applied with the Q about a year ago and was offered a position, got my paperwork, etc.  I was fully hired and assigned to a SA, had my account information, and MQ was just awaiting receipt of my paperwork to send out my equipment.

Another offer came up, which I accepted, and contacted MQ to tell them something had come up and I was unable to accept the position they had offered at that time.

The recruiter was very nice and told me to contact them if my situation changed and they were certain they had no doubt they would have another suitable position for me and thanked me, etc.

Well, here I sit a year later and am finding I could use the extra income of a part-time position.  Although I read the MQ board on a near-daily basis and see what some of my fellow MTs at the Q are going through, part-time gigs are difficult to find right now and I'm wondering...

Would I be totally insane to contact the recruitment line and tell them I am now in a position to accept a position and see what happens?  I went to the apply online website and it gave me a status code and a number to call to speak to my recruiter.  Would they really hold an applicant's information like that in order to be prepared to offer a position?  Of course, I guess since I was hired, would that technically make me an "employee" in their eyes on some level, meaning that I've been tested and everything already (haha, inda like a head of beef already approved for slaughter???).

Anyway, what's the WORST that could happen if they immediately place me on a part-time account?  I definitely need the money and PRESUMABLY they would at leaset initially place me on an account that actually has work.

Should I run the other way and patiently await something else, or should I go ahead and accept something from MQ?  I'm only looking for part-time so I don't feel TOO vulnerable if it turns out to be a huge mistake.

Advice, ladies?  Is it too much caffeine on a Saturday night causing me to be delusional, or should I, in your honest opinion, give the Q a shot?

TIA!!!

No, it is not. Try it, maybe you get hired and like it - good luck

Maybe you will get one of the cushy - accounts with the great

ASR, make $30,000 a year part-time!!! You will never know unless you try.

LOL, I doubt that...just surprised they still have everything on file - And ready to go

Either that or if I call they'll tell me to go jump off of a bridge because I had to back out of the first offer.

I have this mental vision of them having all MTs who have been hired in a huge database so once we do call they can just plug us in to an account like nothing ever happened.

Kinda like stealing our souls or something, knowing they'll get us eventually, lol!

Although $30K a year for part-time might be worth a trade off!

Part-time position - Been there

I would not suggest it, but you can always quit if you experience what so many have, including me. I was part-time and was being forced out after 17 years of excellent quality work. I finally quit and would never, ever work for a company who treats employees like Medquist. Some apparently have it good at Medquist. If you jump on I wish you the very best.

Thanks, I keep telling myself the ONE seemingly good thing - about MQ

Seems to be the checks are always on time. We're all reading so many horror stories on here it seems about more and more MTSOs not paying that it seems we get ripped off no matter what we do.

Of course, the other obvious "plus" of maybe coming on board is having MTs such as those of you who post here to call co-workers. It's quite a comraderie you have all established and try to watch out for one another. There's something to be said for that, too.

This could all be for naught, though. After a year, they might just push me back to "start". I just find it curious they still a status code for me and a recruiter. Most places would, I assume, have discarded everything and have the applicant/hiree start back at square 1.

I think they will retest you, 1 year is a long time - update us!

I would think so, too...Some type of formality - At least for account placement

The more I talk with all of you, the more inclined I am to give it a go. As I posted earlier, I like the comraderie you all show on this forum and it would be nice to know I had a place to go to talk to co-workers and help each other out. Apparently a lot of other MTSOs don't take kindly to the "team" actually being a "team" and discourage it.

Well, that didn't take long to decide. I'm going to call the number they have on file for me and see if I can reactivate everything. In spite of all of its shortcomings, at least I'll feel that I'm in good company with great co-workers who I can actually "talk" to and provide mutual support.

BTW, does anyone know if they provide equipment for part-time or should I be prepared to use my own? I was hired for full-time the last go-round and I'm not sure if things are different for part-time.

Thanks so much to everyone who posted, and I'll keep you updated on how it goes. I'm going to leave a voicemail on the recruiter's line and take it from there.

Have a wonderful Sunday (and Father's Day)!!!
go for it - PT MT

please let us know how it goes. You already know the downsides going in, so why not? It's not your sole source of income.

Yes, you will get equipment as far as I know. I'm PT and have always had MQ equipment.

swap board another plus for PT - go for it

They are desperate for help-- people have been posting stuff about MQ calling them back after their quit or going back through old applications.

I am currently FT but I would love to go PT- the main reason being once the swap board is up and going the PT can really take advantage and pick up extra hours of your choosing without being locked into such a rigid schedule for 40 hours.

Thanks for the posts...I did indeed call and leave a voicemail with all my info letting them know I was now available to accept a position and would very much like to know what the next step in the process would be.

I have no idea how long it might take them to process my message and get back to me, but I'm assuming they'll at least want updated testing for their files before they proceed further.

Now that I've tossed my hat into the ring, I'm really curious to see what happens next.

I'll keep everyone posted on how this unfolds in case anyone else ever finds themselves in a similar situation

To be honest, I hope they get back to me pretty quickly because on some level I'm peculiarly excited about the possibility of coming on board.

Have a wonderful evening, and thanks again for all of your wise words :-)

Insane Pay Rates?
Feb 04, 2013

I recently had an interview for a company I applied for last year (they opened new accounts). The interview seemed fine and I was offered the position, however I turned it down. The are paying 2.5 cpl SR  with 1800 lines expected per day (actually was told some of the "lazier" MTs only typed 1400, thought this was rude of her to say) and ST 5 cpl but no minimum was mentioned as majotiry is SR. I have over 13 years in the MT field.  I know wages have dropped recently but is 5 cpl t ...

Valid/invalid Blanks - Totally Insane
Jun 25, 2013

Totally ridiculous this valid blank and invalid blank.  It is invalid if I don't understand it and leave a blank (which is what I am trained to do) but it is a valid blank if they however cannot understand it.  I am marked off for my INVALID blanks but not for their VALID blanks.  I do not now and never have left blanks without trying to fill them in.  These were not post audit (at least yet) but it still upsets me in that I always maintain a high level of accuracy and n ...
