Chair recommendations? - anon

Posted: Oct 18, 2012

Can anybody recommend a good chair? I am petite, 5 feet 6 inches but small and need cushioning. I need a chair for an extended day (12-20 hours), preferrably without arms, which seem to get in my way. An affordable one not over $400 if possible and fabric, as it is always hot where I live.

Thanks

Sounds like I am built about the same as you - Gray

and I have yet to find a comfortable chair either. I am always throwing on extra pillows and adjusting. I looked into the best chairs and read that maybe a chair isn't what I need after all. Sitting for extended periods shaves years off your life, even if you exercise regularly and don't have other issues. So got creative and for a little money can now stand or sit at my desk, alternating throughout the day. I can walk in place while going back over reports before submitting or even stand on one of those sitting disks (which isn't very comfortable for sitting), which engages core muscles. I am still hoping to find a more comfortable chair for when I am sitting though, so I will be interested in if anyone responds with good suggestions.

Realspace® PRO Quantum Mesh Mid-Back Task Chair sm - shortMT

Hi, I'm only 5'1" and had difficulty finding a chair that lowers enough so my feet can touch the floor and the circulation does not get cut off in my thighs.  A co-worker recommended this one, and I love it! It is mesh, not fabric. If you check the site or the manufacturer's site, you may be able to find a fabric one.  This has a lumbar support and several adjustments.  I removed the arms myself.  Love this chair.  It is cool in hot weather and comfortable in colder weather.  Had it shipped to me since no store in my area.  Mid-back is perfect for me.

Thanks for posting that - RC

My buttocks are sore, no padding... I am looking for a chair that I can adjust for petite size and cushioning... I did see a chair called Allseating Presto Mid Back Heavy Duty 24-Hour Use Task chair. through www.sitbetter.com. I hope that works out. Thanks for your recommendations.

I hope the chair you ordered is a comfortable one. sm - shortMT

The Quantum Mesh chair I posted has a wide cushion, waterfall, so that it eases the pressure on your legs. I don't know how to describe it, but the seat is some sort of mesh and it is very comfortable and flexible. The height adjust down low enough for short people, unlike a lot of task chairs. I've had it several years now. If anyone else is looking for a comfy chair. Its looks are very deceiving. Very sturdy, heavy chair.

Like I said, I'm 5'1', so even more petite than you. I consider you tall. LOL. Let us know how your new chair is!
Thanks so much! - anon

I am comparing this one to the other and will keep you posted. Thanks so very much for your recommendations. I appreciate you taking the time out to help me. This chair I am on now has to go. I am sitting on pure metal it seems..... Also, can you sit on the mesh without having to wear clothes to cover up? This is why I want a fabric chair again. It is hot in my office, and I am tired of wearing long dresses.

I ordered the All seating Presto Mid back heavy-duty 24-hour chair 52011 with memory foam and sliding backseat option and will keep you posted.

Thanks so much. If the chair does not suit my purpose, then I will try your recommendation. Again, thanks!

this chair works great for me - anon

I'm petite like you and like A LOT of cushioning. Office Depot has a Realspace Caldina chair that I've been using 10+ hour shifts for 5 years. Good cushioning on the rear end. Good back support for me too. The arms come off easy by unscrewing wheels--no screwdriver needed. I work with the arms off. Back adjusts as well as height. It's really been durable for me, and the fabric has held up remarkably well. I've tried more expensive models, leather, mesh and more ergonomic, but honestly this is the most comfy for me. It's a good deal at about 150 bucks. Priced like lower quality, but as the padding is getting a bit flat on this one, I'd get a new one in a heartbeat.

Need A New Chair
Feb 05, 2011

The cushion is completely flattened from my big rear end, and now I can't sit for more than a hour without the numb-butt feeling.  I'm looking for a good chair but, of course, I'm on an MT salary, so I can't pay top dollar.  I'm thinking about $150 or so.  Any ideas? ...

Transcriptioin Chair
Aug 16, 2010

I'm looking for a good transcription chair.  When we started working from home I asked to take my chair and told I could not.  I even offered to buy it from them but still could not get it.  I want one that adjusts in height and has arms that move in or out as well as up and down.  The chair at the hospital was over a $400.00 chair and it was so comfortable.  If anyone knows of a good place to purchase one of these over the internet please let me know.   &nbs ...

Chair Suggestions?
May 16, 2014

Does anyone have some suggestions for a good quality office chair, an ergonomic model in particular which focuses on support for the lower back? I've been able to get away with relatively cheap ones for over a decade, but after a back injury last year, the cheap ones are killing me. I've tried back rests and cushions with no relief. I've looked at some floor models in supply stores and online reviews, but can't tell which one would make a difference. I'd apprecia ...

Body Built Chair
Feb 24, 2010

I wanted to share my chair info with every MT.  I recently read about the Body Built Chair and decided to check it out.  I did finally purchase the chair after much hesitation because it cost so much.  I love the chair so much!  I am so pleased I purchased it.  They do have a 30 day return policy.  I was having pain and discomfort in my lower back, my legs,  my butt, every where it seems after years of transcribing.  I have purchased several chairs.  ...

Does Anyone Out There Use A Balance Ball Chair
Mar 24, 2011

I'm trying to use just my balance ball right now.  I have some low back problems and find that my posture is horrendous with sitting in a normal office chair; however, just the balance ball alone seems to be a little too low.  Overall, it feels more comfortable on my rear end than my normal office chair and I'm definitely sitting up straighter, but wondered if anyone else out there had any experiences, good or bad, with using a balance ball or the balance ball chair setup.&nb ...

Need To Vent (computer Chair Related)
Apr 27, 2011

My computer chair tore up, so I needed to get a new one. I tried some out at the store and got a cushy one. After I put it together and sat in it for 30 minutes, I had severe pain. It felt like my whole body went numb and tingly. So I had to take it back. I got a second chair and can tell it's not going to be comfortable and that I will need to take it back. I'm sick, tired, and frustrated about this. Not at the stores or the people that work there, because it's not their fault ( ...
