Need to vent (computer chair related) - me

Posted: Apr 27, 2011

My computer chair tore up, so I needed to get a new one. I tried some out at the store and got a cushy one. After I put it together and sat in it for 30 minutes, I had severe pain. It felt like my whole body went numb and tingly. So I had to take it back.

I got a second chair and can tell it's not going to be comfortable and that I will need to take it back. I'm sick, tired, and frustrated about this. Not at the stores or the people that work there, because it's not their fault (just wanted to add that so you would know I'm not taking my frustrations out on the store workers, lol). In this profession where I have to sit in a chair for several hours, I can't have one that makes my body hurt. It's bad enough trying to concentrate on getting your line count without doing it with a painful chair. Just wanted to vent.

A few years back I got one made by Sealy. - Got it at an Office Depot store. (s/m)

It was relatively inexpensive compared to other, big-name chairs, (in the range of $150, I believe.. may have been on sale). It's wide, cushy enough to prevent butt-numbness, made of soft, black faux leather. It adjusts 6 ways, including lumbar support. I can easily spend 18 hours a day in it, and have even dozed off in it in front of my PC (when I should be working! haha)

So keep on trying, and eventually you'll find the perfect chair.

I can relate. Several years ago I tried a 1K Aeron chair (HATED it); then went to a chair from Staples that cost $129.00 at the time. It is still going strong and I love it. (I have back problems and need a great chair.) If you have a Staples in your area, you might try them. I went in and sat in different chairs on the demonstration floor until I found one I liked. Just shows to go you that expensive does not mean good. The Staples model beat the Aeron by miles and was one-tenth the price.

I got a Serta chair from Staples about 6 months ago and love it. It was on sale for $99. I sit in it for up to 12 hours some days and haven't had a problem. It has some lumbar massage which I used when I first got it, but I really only use that now if I am in the chair for a LONG time (like over 10 hours).

Need A New Chair
Feb 05, 2011

The cushion is completely flattened from my big rear end, and now I can't sit for more than a hour without the numb-butt feeling. I'm looking for a good chair but, of course, I'm on an MT salary, so I can't pay top dollar. I'm thinking about $150 or so. Any ideas? ...

Transcriptioin Chair
Aug 16, 2010

I'm looking for a good transcription chair. When we started working from home I asked to take my chair and told I could not. I even offered to buy it from them but still could not get it. I want one that adjusts in height and has arms that move in or out as well as up and down. The chair at the hospital was over a $400.00 chair and it was so comfortable. If anyone knows of a good place to purchase one of these over the internet please let me know. &nbs ...

Chair Recommendations?
Oct 18, 2012

Can anybody recommend a good chair? I am petite, 5 feet 6 inches but small and need cushioning. I need a chair for an extended day (12-20 hours), preferrably without arms, which seem to get in my way. An affordable one not over $400 if possible and fabric, as it is always hot where I live. Chair Suggestions?
May 16, 2014

Does anyone have some suggestions for a good quality office chair, an ergonomic model in particular which focuses on support for the lower back? I've been able to get away with relatively cheap ones for over a decade, but after a back injury last year, the cheap ones are killing me. I've tried back rests and cushions with no relief. I've looked at some floor models in supply stores and online reviews, but can't tell which one would make a difference. I'd apprecia ...

Body Built Chair
Feb 24, 2010

I wanted to share my chair info with every MT. I recently read about the Body Built Chair and decided to check it out. I did finally purchase the chair after much hesitation because it cost so much. I love the chair so much! I am so pleased I purchased it. They do have a 30 day return policy. I was having pain and discomfort in my lower back, my legs, my butt, every where it seems after years of transcribing. I have purchased several chairs. ...

Does Anyone Out There Use A Balance Ball Chair
Mar 24, 2011

I'm trying to use just my balance ball right now. I have some low back problems and find that my posture is horrendous with sitting in a normal office chair; however, just the balance ball alone seems to be a little too low. Overall, it feels more comfortable on my rear end than my normal office chair and I'm definitely sitting up straighter, but wondered if anyone else out there had any experiences, good or bad, with using a balance ball or the balance ball chair setup.&nb ...

MOT Related To Bankruptcy?
May 12, 2015

It's been my experience that when there's a deluge of work all at once to be finished up, it's because the hospital/company is about to switch gears, with the MT suffering the most. I'm not financial savvy, but I wonder if this latest MOT stuff is related to the recent bankruptcy, that possibly the reserve money to pay the MTs is running out, so the company is about to go under or sell out. Something's up for sure. ...

Related Lines Of Work
Aug 27, 2013

I've been in healthcare documentation for over 7 years. The well is drying up, it seems that almost nobody is hiring, and the ones that are want the whole class to be as good as the valedictorian, if you know what I mean (and the medical industry as a whole seems bound and determined to destroy employee rights). Can my experience get me something in legal transcription or something else more stable? I can't afford more schooling, I got bills to pay. ...

MQ Has To SEVERELY Cut Employee-related Costs And
Mar 22, 2010

There are severe legal ramifications if you put in writing that you agree to this cost cutting/salary control maneuvering by MQ. Essentially they are getting us to let them off the hook with these "ESSAYS." Please note on the email it states: "All entries become the property of MQ and may be used in future communications." Also, not to be outdone by their own salary slashing FTR program, they have also taken more time/money away from us as these are to be done on OUR O ...

Suggestion To Aid With Income-related Discussions.
Aug 10, 2012

I've noticed that we need some sort of standard reference or metric to use when we talk about income-related issues, and this metric should not merely reference dollars (or cents), but should relate this to a unit of time. At the end of the day, it's how much you earned per unit of time that really matters, and this the only sort of metric that takes into account all of the variables that a mere monetary reference such as "line rate" does not. The line rate pa ...
