Any company recommendations from anyone happy - MTinJax

Posted: Dec 14, 2012

with their job?

I know there are tons of people asking for information on companies all the time on this board, but every company I search on looking for information on here, either the information is a few years old or not the information I'm necessarily interested in.  I'd appreciate any input, good or bad, I can get.

I have 18 years experience and have done just about everything except radiology, so the type of account doesn't matter, though I love ortho and cardiology.  I'm just looking for a decent company, with plenty of work, preferably one that pays at least . 08 cpl and pays on time, where the platform doesn't suck, I can use my own computer, it won't take a month to get started with them, and the dictators aren't horrible. I can handle ESL docs, I just don't want the ones that are so bad you can't make any money with them.  I also prefer straight typing, but wouldn't rule out VR.

Benefits and insurance aren't a concern, because I prefer IC and a smaller company, but I would consider employee at a national if it was a good company where I thought I could be happy.  I prefer a 12 to 24-hour window and I love it when they just show me how to use whatever platform they're on, give me my specs and leave me alone. LOL I would prefer not to hear from anyone unless there is an issue.  Just tell me how many lines you want and let me get to it.  Any companies that do that?  LOL   I really would rather avoid companies that monitor your every move and chain you to the desk.

Over the years, I have already been through MQ, TTS, Superior Global, Archivus, Medscribe in Jacksonville, and a few others, and I'm pretty sure I have no interest in Nuance or similar.  What about Amphion, Softscript, Mediscribe, Keystrokes, Landmark, etc??

I know this is long, sorry, but just want to try to get the right information.  I'd appreciate any input I can get!  Thanks!

SoftScript is the only one I know of with no VR. - anon

They have lousy benefits, which you said you didn't mind but that includes terrible PTO benefits.

I often ran out of work but some say there is plenty. I worked as an editor though and not an MT, so maybe MT has more work.

I can't say that I would highly recommend them, but that applies to the entire industry at this point.

Oracle (OTI) - MT10

I love working at OTI. My accounts are straight typing. Don't know if they all are. They leave you alone and let you do your work. This is the best place I've found so far. Good luck!

Oracle is tough to get on with aren't they? I don't see many ads for them. - anon

I have applied a couple of times but never heard back. I have 15+ years experience, so it wasn't because I was a newbie.

In the "old days," there were complaints of them always running out of work. sm - Happy @ OTI

I think now they make a concerted effort not to overhire and offer new accounts to current employees first. I work on a busy ER account and love it. I wish the pay was more, but at least it is on Bayscribe, which I love, and you are paid super fast after the end of the pay period.

OTI info - no name

[ In Reply To ..]
OTI keeps dropping the line rate and they still have a work available on a sporadic basis. Not an easy place to make a paycheck.

Thanks for the info! nm - MTinJax

Good companies to work for? - outahere

[ In Reply To ..]
Your wish list is not unreasonable, but it certainly is unobtainable, especially if you're looking for more than 3 or 4 cents a line, and most of what you'll get is editing. About those ESLs! With your years of experience all you'll get is the ones who either can't or won't make an effort to speak English. After all they have US MTs to cover for them. And don't expect to be left alone to do your job. All these companies are anal about QA and ride roughshod on MTs. If only they WOULD leave us alone, we could dig in and meet their high expectations. I think the plan is to keep everyone on edge all the time so we can't produce quotas. That way they only have to pay us $350 a month like they do in India.

I think, unfortunately, you're right - MTinJax

about a lot of this. MT used to be such a great career, but it just keeps going further and further downhill. I know I probably won't get everything on my wish list and will have to probably make some compromises somewhere, but I know these types of jobs do still exist. You just don't hear about them much anymore, because the people who have them want to keep them to themselves. LOL Actually, I've been pretty lucky, for the most part, with the jobs I've ended up in, with only a few I really hated. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can find another. I have other irons in the fire I'm working on, so if I can find a company I enjoy working for and stay there long enough to be able to get the other things to where I can support myself with them and make MT a supplemental thing, I'll be happy. LOL :O)

The only good companies out there are in businesses - other than medical transcription. nm

Wow! I guess I should keep my job! - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I have a job EXACTLY like the one you're looking for (straight typing only) and was thinking of leaving for a VR job. I should probably stay where I am. A very simple platform I learned in 30 mins, QA'd once in a blue moon, left alone to do my work, decent pay. Straight typing is just driving me batty! :(

Really? Where? - MTinJax

[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't mind my asking, where do you work and are they hiring? LOL You can email me if you don't want to post that here. :O)

There are straight transcription jobs out there - nonnie

[ In Reply To ..]
I just started working for a company that does both straight and VR and yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday) was offered positions for straight typing so they are out there. Good Luck!!

You should give Synernet a try - Already at 2000 lines

I was worried initially because the pay is 7 cpl. They do have incentive at 1/4 cpl extra. However, the Retirement, 401k you cannot find any better, plus 220 hours of PTO a year and they make you take at least 2 weeks a year and can roll over the extra. Platform is "The bomb." It is Fusion and it was made with transcriptionists in mind. Very user friendly, they factor in a difficulty factor for difficult doctors and you get extra lines. You can bring up previous reports by doctor, speciality, or whatever. So it was very easy to start making mone. I have only been there 2 weeks and I am already at 2000 lines per 8-hour shift. You get paid extra for holidays
