Audio files - not a technical question - whogoesthere

Posted: Oct 17, 2010

Just wondering what everyone's estimate percentage of poor quality (static and other issues) is for the work you do?

I'd say that I get about 90-95% - bad audio files

But I am currently working for a company that is notorious for having bad quality sound files.

Less than 5%, even those are usually dictator's fault. - Hayseed

Thankfully most of the audio where I am is top notch. It's only a rare few, like maybe 1 file a month, where the dictator needs a slappin' for whispering or eating while talking, or holding receiver under chin...things of that nature.

I'd have to totally bail out of this job if I had as high a percentage rate of bad audio files as the poor poster above me. My inability to control my anger would eventually get the best of me.
:-D

Hmmm, maybe 8%, like Hayseed mostly from dictating - in car, etc., on dictator equipment. NM

... much more than seems appropriate, probaby 80-85%, and I get angry about it too (but feel hands are tied). It just seems so ridiculous. It's bad enough dealing with poor dictation itself without the other issues. It seems our job is so removed from what it is really supposed to be about because clients/dicators are not accountable for anything on their end. One dictator might have near perfect sound quality while another from the same facility has horrid. Apparently a lot of it is just not using the equipment properly. I think it is a shame the MTSOs are afraid to be firm. The clients might have a lot more respect for them if they did.

Any other input appreciated - whogoesthere

I would love to hear from more of the numerous people who read the original post. I am wondering how typical it is to have such poor quality. Any other responses either way appreciated.

With the first job I had, the doctor (and I assume his secretary who did the file uploads) made so many errors that easily 50% of them had serious problems. Since he was the primary doctor on this tiny 3-dictator account, it was a huge obstacle.

With my current job, however, the problems seem located to a couple of specific doctors who don't know how to use the equipment. Since there are nearly 100 dictators, maybe 2% of dictations are poor.

I sure hope someone out there can help me with this. Due to this situation I will be losing each day and this is only day 1 at this point so need to get this resolved. Problem: I get my files through FTP, download them into ExpressScribe and then play via foot pedal. I have been able to do this on this same account for months. Geardictate Encrypted Audio Files
Dec 31, 2010

Hi - I have been using express scribe for months without problem, receiving and sending transcription files.  Now, however, one of my contracts has started using geardictate.  I cannot open the files they are sending through express scribe?  Has anyone else had this problem?  After hours of looking for a solution via the internet I think the problem is that the files are encrypted when transferred?  Is there a way to open these files without having to go through th ...

Access Audio Files Of InScribe (EMDAT)
Apr 29, 2013

Greetings- I am on EMDAT platform using InScribe client software.  According to EMDAT's website: "When a dictation is downloaded to a transcriptionist workstation, it is decrypted automatically and converted to an .MP3 file." https://www.emdat.com/software/faq.asp. EMDAT does state that they do not support using those files with other applications, but this only means that EMDAT Inc. won't provide you with technical support if you have problems with this procedure. However ther ...

Technical/software Question
Sep 15, 2010

I am not computer savvy. If someone shows me how to do something I can do it but here is my dilemma. I am doing testing for a company and they had me set up a FTP (file transfer protocol) and had me download Express Scribe. They then sent me dictation files via the FTP and said type them and send them back via FTP. So how does one get these files from FTP into the Express Scribe and then do you have to open a word document or set something up to make it open into a word document. I am very confu ...

To ASR Technical People- Feel Free To Add
Jun 11, 2010

Why is there is no consistency with ASR with each doctor or account?  If an account does not want b.i.d. or t.i.d. then why does ASR put it in?  There are certain symbols (&) and terms (q.daily) that are not permitted on Docuscribe but yet ASR uses these symbols every time they are dictated.  These are just of the meaningless changes that we have to fix OVER and OVER and OVER again.   Here are my suggestions: 1.  Let the doctors know on each account what terms ...
