Are there jobs out there for people put out of work with Epic, etc. - LAMT

How long is it taking to find a job and do you have to settle for weekends and all the hours no one else wants. My account is getting ready to go on Epic so I dont know how long I will have a job either. I would like to go PT when this happens but have no clue what is the best way to go about this because I havent had to look for a job for so long. I am IC and really dont want employee as I dont need to have their benes. Do you hear from people if you post your resume or just keep trying and trying. I dont know how long after Epic you are bumped out. They just started August 1st. This is ORs and acute care. I do mainly ORs.

Let me just start out by saying how much I loved doing operative reports and I really miss them. I had a good account that went to VR first then India, now its back but probably only a short while before Epic takes over. I worked for Scriberight just recently where we were migrating hospital charts into Epic (very boring). Anyway that ended because its just temporary, after everything is migrated they do not need us anymore. That was the end of June, and I was desperately sending out my resume to jobs poste here and the other website. Responses were all the same pretty much, 2nd shift, 3rd shift, one day on the weekend. I have kids and a husband and this is impossible for me. I was lucky in that an old boss of my got in touch with me, she got her account back from India, we will see how long we get to keep it. I work part-time IC doing acute care, discharges, consults, H&Ps from 7-12 at night M-F, its not ideal but allows me to be able to bring my kids places they need to go after school and now in the summer. I am so tired though : (

I was out of work and money for the whole month of July. Lucky my husband works, but we are still behind on everything because of it, so look now before you get let go with no notice like me : (

I can't offer you advice on the job search. If possible, see if you can be put on a different (acute care) account, hopefully there will still be work. It's been 2 years since my facility made the change and so far no one has been laid off. Just because Epic comes into your life it does not necessarily mean you will lose your job.

I am pretty much the only one on these ORs and a lot of them are fairly - LAMT

specific to the patients to some degree at least the way they dictate because they are diagnostic ORs such as EGD, colon, etc. so they are not so much just surgery but diagnostic procedures. Dont know if that will matter but what matters to me is they dont give you an idea of their agenda or I would be looking now. This is the part that annoys me.

The only thing I know to tell you is to start sending out resumes. I really dont know anyone personally who has gone to epic so dont know the process or how long it takes but would'nt wait around to find out.
