Transcription Doctors terminates 16 people out of their jobs and shorts pay. - SizzlinHotChick

Transcription Doctors terminates 16 people out of their jobs and shorts pay.

Today, 16 MT/QA staff were terminated without notice and only when staff began to voice concern with complaints did an email get sent out.  The email briefly mentioned that termination was due to either not working enough hours or poor quality, though this author knows of people who have been shorted on their paychecks when checks were received today and questioned why.  It's not confirmed whether the shortage on paychecks is related to termination.  One item that is confirmed is that work is not plentiful and therefore staff are unable to reach a certain of number of hours worked or lines generated. This authors quality was not an issue and the IC contract does not indicate that a specific number of hours or lines had to be generated in order to keep the position.  More info as it comes in.

Isn't TTD the company who pays 3 cents a line or is it 2.5 cents? - How much more can they "short" you? nm

I was hired at .04 cpl for editing reports that were straight typed and .03 cpl for VR edited reports.

Aren't they actively hiring right now? - I can never figure out why layoffs concurrent with

[ In Reply To ..]
I haven't had a chance to double-check on the job board, but I could have sworn they have a fairly recent ad on there actively recruiting.

If the 16 were let go for poor performance, that's understandable; however, if it was due to lack of work availability and they're advertising, obviously there's work there on another account.

I will never understand why MTSOs lay off and either are or very soon thereafter starting to recruit for new MTs. It's a total head-scratcher for me.

There's an ad right now for 3rd shift QA. Also, regarding quality - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If quality was an issue then they should have told me. I never got any type of negative feedback and there's a place to look on the platform for feedback and I never had any. I can only assume I was doing my job well. One other lady said the same thing, but really I can only speak for myself.

The concurrency of layoff vs hiring isn't a coincidence. - They dump the ones who: (s/m)

[ In Reply To ..]
a - May have come from a company they just bought out.

b - Those who are close to the top of their pay scale, no matter how low that might be.

c - Anyone who knows the score, and knows they're being shorted lines, shorted on pay, or being fed a line of bull from the higher-ups.

Then they replace them with Indians, Filipinos or Pakistanis - 3 of them for the price of 1 American.

Companies like this are building their entire business model on a house of cards, and eventually, someone, (perhaps a group like the Grand 13?) will pull one of the key cards out from under them.

Then watch them all run crying to the feds, demanding bailouts.

Or maybe - they are laying off the dead wood

[ In Reply To ..]
and the people who sit on here all day and kvetch about how the world's out to get them instead of actually doing their jobs. Honestly, if that's the way you feel, frickin' QUIT! You're not chained to your job, you know. There are other options, and I'm sure with your positive attitude and can-do spirit you can find work in another arena with no problem!
I want to clarify - about dead wood remark
[ In Reply To ..]
I am not talking about the people who got laid off and I am very sorry that happened to you. I don't know anything about it and I doubt it was deserved. I reacted out of anger to the poster above and the culture of victimhood and assuming the worst that seems to be prevalent around here. I clearly need to stop coming onto this board, as it is making me angry and reacting in ways I am not proud of. I unfortunately did not choose a way to edit my last post, so I apologize for it now. I wish you all well and won't be back here anymore. I especially wish those who were laid off well, and I hope whatever door opens because of this, it turns out to be a fantastic opportunity for you.
Best wishes to you too. The culture of victimhood, silly lies, - and vicious libels are disgusting. I am SM

only dropping by because I occasionally pick up genuine, useful information from honest posts.

td - not td

[ In Reply To ..]
1. I don't think they are big enough to buy anyone out.

2. Read the syntax of the OP.

3. ICs are contractors - can be let go at any time and hopefully were tracking their lines to know if they need to pursue further action.

4. Look for more terminations. The tsunami is just beginning. This may be the first wave to hit the shore. Companies that have overhired will be letting people go and keeping only those who are consistent with quality and quantity.

MTs in some companies better find a tree and hang on tight.

How frustrating for all 16 of you! I am so very sorry this is happening to you! :( I was offered a position with them and just had a sinking feeling in my gut about them after researching and boy am I glad I did not take the position. To do the work and get shorted pay then when asked about it to be terminated...... they are a company that contributes to giving this industry a bad name! Again I am sorry and hope you find a much better position!

Honestly, that's just an assumption but - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
it seemed awfully coincidental.

Here's the - deal

[ In Reply To ..]
This is exactly why they love that you were willing to take the position as IC because you now have no recourse as none of what they did is necessarily illegal. In the event you do have recourse, you must take it to court on your own dime and hope that you are successful.

Actually - at will

[ In Reply To ..]
.. all states except Montana are at-will states, which simply means whether an independent contractor or employee you can be terminated at-will (no notice). What is important to remember about at-will is that it works both ways, i.e. you can also terminate your employment without giving a two week notice to your employer.

Correct in your understanding of "at-will" yet - where you are missing

[ In Reply To ..]
the point is that as an IC you have none, absolutely none, of the protections and benefits you do as an employee.
Not true - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If you're an IC, there should be a contract- one you signed (in a perfect world, one you wrote). In that contract, should be your built-in protections. Mine states that I am to be given 30 days notice if they choose to end the contract. Now, they can ignore that, but then when I go to court, I've got some ammunition.

Too many people take a job as an IC and dont have a clue about how to run a business. We are NOT as powerless as some would have you believe.
BUT NONE OF US ARE "IC" - THEY provide software, instructions, work times. - NoLongerAnon
[ In Reply To ..]
When are people going to realize that? Production-based work laws DO NOT APPLY to transcriptionists. WE ARE GIVEN DEFINITIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO CARRY OUT WORK, ASSIGNED TIME SLOTS, and. THEY PROVIDE THE PLATFORM and even REFERENCE TOOLS..

That is the legal definition of EMPLOYEE.
at will - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Then it would appear an independent contractor may have more legal rights than an employee where the employer takes out taxes from your paycheck vs independent contractor where you are responsible for quarterly payments. Every employee handbook I have had over the years clearly states that the company can fire me for no reason and with no notice as they are an at-will employer.
ic - husband
[ In Reply To ..]
My husband sold insurance for 25 years as an independent contractor. The company he sold insurance for provided hard copies of forms, books, etc. Later in his career they provided the software for HIS personal computer. He bought supplies as in paper, pens, etc which he deducted, but he was never considered an employee of that company, he only represented and sold their products.
same thing with realtors - realtorMT
[ In Reply To ..]
We represent a company, get paid for what we "produce," forms and how to all provided, training provided. We're independent contractors. I'm pretty sure there are some MTs on here who like to scream foul when they aren't in the ballgame.
true - but the employer
[ In Reply To ..]
pays unemployment insurance for employee status employees, they do not for IC.

No training, no nothing - DownTheDrain

[ In Reply To ..]
They neither test or train. They throw you onto an account expecting you to be of the clairvoyant type and automatically know what the account specs are.

Many of us were terminated because we knew not of a minimum production requirement and feedback was NEVER given.

Amy is getting off like a fat rat. Takes days to respond to emails. I'm sure she wakes up every morning only to shop & plan lavish vacations on Orbitz.com off of the blood, sweat and tears of us MTs.

God doesn't like ugly and retribution is more than just a word!

How long were you there? It's just odd that they advertise ever - 10 days or so like clockwork

[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe they hire, short pay and move on to the next group?

This is EXACTLY what SGS did to 100 US QA on Nov 15, 2011 and.. - NoLongerAnon

[ In Reply To ..]
...they've had to pay UI. GET COPIES OF YOUR PERSONNEL FILES! It's what I needed to back up the truth because they lied to UI.

TTD-sm - Anonymous

[ In Reply To ..]
my paycheck was very short!

Did you question it and, if so, were you terminated? - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow, I'm stunned reading these posts. Does anyone know if all the laid off MTs had been shorted on their pay and were terminated upon questioning it?

I'm reading these posts and feeling like crying-sm - Anonymous

[ In Reply To ..]
It's so hard to work knowing I may not get paid for it. Am I stupid to continue? My unease is growing by the minute.

If I were you, I'd quit before you spend anymore - time/hard work only (see more inside)

to end up out on your ear and with money owing. There might be some who didn't have pay issues but there seem to be others who do. That would be plenty enough for me!

To People Applying/looking For Jobs

I applied for one of the jobs listed on here and another site.  I got a call saying they would call last Friday.  When that didn't happen, I got an email saying they would call today in a certain time frame.  That still has not happened.  I know patience is a virtue and that they are dealing with multiple resumes, but I had an email from a recruiter in the specialty area that I was looking at, so I was hoping the number of resumes had dropped some (not just a general rec ...

To the poster who posted below looking for information on TTD.  They don't have their own accounts.  They work for Superior Global and maybe others.  Superior pays them to find ICs.  They probably pay them 4 cpl and then TTD pays you a cruddy 3 cpl to edit VR reports.  They don't offer direct deposit because Superior is paying them and then they pay you, which is why you have to wait a month for your check.   I would never work for a company that is just bascially an agency hir ...
