Wow, just read this on the MModal board - MTheaded

From the post "The plans of MModal in India"

"Speaking on the company’s India plans, Dinesh Kumar, Managing Director, India for M*Modal said, “During the company’s growth this past decade, India has remained central to delivering high value clinical documentation services to our U.S.-based customers. As M*Modal's business continues its pivot to embracing technology advances as a natural evolution of its service offerings, we anticipate significant increases in the volume of work flowing to India as part of this large global expansion. Just as exciting, this aggressive growth plan now enables us to train our Indian employees with new skill sets in medical coding, in the complexities of medical billing and in the emerging field of healthcare analytics. We are committed to empowering the careers of our employees to enhance what India can offer to the world."

So now they, as well as those former AAMT leaders who like offshoring - are on my list to avoid at all cost

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't blame the people of India at all. They are just trying to survive, but so are we.

I do blame American companies, former AAMT directors, BOD members and Presidents, etc., who make themselves wealthy hurting American workers.

Workers in India, Barbados, the Philippines, etc., should find jobs in those places working for doctors and hospitals doing work there, rather than coming here and UNDERCUTTING OUR PAY, forcing us into Welfare and Unemployment, while the American companies, former AAMT Directors and Presidents, and BOD members, smile and stab American workers in the back.

Not only does it hurt us, it will hurt people overseas too, because they depend on our tax money. Americans send money overseas - lots of it! If we all go on unemployment and welfare because of what these people have done to us, we won't be able to send that money overseas to help those poor people. It's a lose/lose situation. None of the people who are doing this deserve our respect. They lack decency and ethics.

Please understand - Just passing through

1. That AAMT/AHDI has nothing to do with the coding industry.
2. That computer assisted coding is just that, it does not eliminate the need for coders, just as VR does not eliminate the need for editors.

It wouldn't surprise me though - downtime

[ In Reply To ..]
If MModal sends their coding over to India. Why not? I think they'd move their entire operation there if they could. But that doesn't mean all the coding in America is going there.
Exactly... - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Why wouldn't they (and others) get involved. UGH.

AHIMA is the one involved with coding. Example: Karen Karban, CCS of M*Modal spoke at the AHIMA convention on the topic "Outsourced Coding 101" last month.

http://www.ahima.org/Events/Convention/05-25-12_Clinical_Coding_Meeting_Agenda.pdf
What's the deal with AHIMA not allowing the CCS test in India anymore? - Wondering
[ In Reply To ..]
There is a note there that says the test is no longer available in India. I can't remember the exact words. Maybe they are getting smart, because training coders to take over American jobs is a death knell for AHIMA in time.
Answer - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
There had been an organized cheating scandal. The tests were suspended in several countries until it was investigated and measures taken to ensure the validity of results. It has been a while now. India and Pakistan and maybe some other Arab nations.

I saw one Indian website with a collection of "interview questions" that looked suspicious, but I do not know if it was test prep cheating or cheating during the exam, getting outside help, or having someone take the test for you or what.
Wow! - Speechless

I had no idea.
Good to know! - MT

That would be a good decision.
AHIMA No Longer Offering CCS Exam in India - happygolucky1

As a certified coder who is looking for her 4th coding job in four and a half years due to outsourcing to India, I am all for it. I would like to see the AAPC step up to the plate and do the same thing. Kudos to AHIMA. I am getting ready to study for my CCS certification. Let India take care of themselves.

This was brought up last week and posters - were accused of fear mongering

and negativity. And told to go away.

Exactly, why does it keep being brought up - anon

It was posted on this board last week. We read it last week. Move on, no one's buying it.

More on M*Modal entering the coding field... - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
From M*Modal:
http://mmodal.com/services/coding/

So are all these certified coders that M*Modal have ALL Indian? I'm wondering if their plan is to completely start off-shoring from the get-go in this area? Or are they employing off-site American coders too?

As I mentioned below (though the bullies here don't want anybody to know it), there are at least two hospitals who are already implementing M*Modal coding services. How is their track record of poor quality in off-shoring sensitive medical information (still don't know how this is allowed) not catching up with them. Do hospitals really ignore all this and only care about saving money at the expense of such critical issues? I guess we can only see where it goes. Crazy.

I don't know the answer, but from what we do know - Shame On Them!

Seriously? Being called a zombie cult member is "disagreeing"?!! - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow, so you think these were normal responses to simply posting and commenting on information I had come across?

"You are still wallowing in M*Modal land, like some kind of zombie cult members." (I've never even worked for M*Modal)

That I should "Get a life", "Get an education", "compose myself", come "down from the ceiling" (HUH?)and that I was "paralyzed by fear" (again HUH?).

If you defend that....well, no comment.
A zombie is a good analogy - Probably will regret feeding the troll,..
[ In Reply To ..]
if people who claim to be leaving forever resurrect on the board?

"troll" is more fitting, in my opinion.

Wish there was a block feature on this site. It's tiresome ignoring a site pest determined to hammer everyone's head with their pet conspiracy theories. I don't care about MM and no one else does either.

First, I want to say that I did not post anything above. I have worked as an RN for 10 years, then MT 20 years, and am currently enrolled in Andrews. I was afraid of coding ending up like MT and I investigated extensively and prayed a lot before enrolling! I DID find there were some hospitals who tried off shoring coding, some may still be doing so. However, I know someone in the HIM Department at a local hospital where they tried outsourcing a portion of the coding and after 4 months they had lost substantial funding in terms of reimbursement from the government/insurance companies because of inaccurate coding. They went back to all US coders. This is the reason I felt this would continue to be a promising career for those willing to study, continue with their education, and work hard.

Many just unfortunately do not care when there are inaccurate medical records (in hospital administration) as it doesn't hurt their bottom line, money! Inaccurate coding WILL affect their reimbursement and their bottom line.

Having said that, I totally get where the MTs who have posted are coming from. We never believed that our profession would be so under valued/under paid. This began with M*Modal (Medquist) and I have a knee jerk reaction as well to reading their press release. Initially many hospitals would not go with them because of the quality, but eventually look how many have! I hope and pray that coding never follows this path, and hope that the certification and need for quality coders will ensure us a place in the work force!~
Companies that do coding are very professional. - CCS, CPC
[ In Reply To ..]
Companies that do coding are typically those which also provide professional health information management services, audits, and consulting. They have been around a long time. They are AHIMA-oriented and the majority of their employees are highly credentialed. Facilities trust those companies.

When those folks send you a coder or an RHIA, they are professional individuals who show up wearing suits. And they mean it.

They do not have "at-home" workers, either. They may work remotely, but there are no dogs, no kids, no jammies, and no issues.

They are NOTHING like MM.
