Viva Transcription job - jmkb

I was just offered a job with viva transcription. Has anyone worked for them before? I'm just getting back into things after taking some time off for health reasons and really don't want to wind up in a bad situation.

The archives on here don't have anything to bad to say about Viva except that you better stick within TAT, which I don't think is a bad thing. They just mergered with the company I worked for (we do all psych) and it is taking some time to get all the different templates tweaked out and figuring out how the Viva system works, as it is very different from what I'm used to doing. But mgmt has been fantastic and very helpful and encouraging, and they have gotten back to me quickly with any questions or concerns that I have had, so while things have been shaky in the respect of getting everything worked out to be perfect in the Viva system, I'm very happy overall with the people working in the company. They've been very patient, tolerant, and helpful. Hope this helps.

I work for them. My manager is very supportive which is nice as I have had many health issues that prevented me from being able to do my job. I suppose they are a pretty good company but you're not going to buy a yacht with what they pay you.

I work for them. I have had some disagreements with them. They are mostly related to one client that I type for. I made one minor mistake a while ago and ever since then they seem to triple check my work. I know I made a careless mistake and occasionally still do, but do they have to be so uptight?

Wait... I'm not sure I follow. You are upset because you made a mistake and they are all over you about it. Are you not aware of how important your work is? I don't know the company and I know a lot of them may be evil, but I can't really blame them for getting on your case if you're being careless. You are working in the medical field after all....

I agree. You can't go making mistakes on medical records and expect everyone to be ok with it. I have never worked with this company, but I can sort of see why they might get upset with you.

I see people have posted about selling to Viva Transcription and I tried to post there but I couldn't see exactly how. Maybe this will work. I have been typing for viva for a year now and just received word from them that they were relocating my accounts to a back end voice rec system due to industry pressures for faster turnaround time and lower pricing for clients. Apparently my accounts, which aren't particularly difficult (no accents etc) were chosen for transfer while many others were not. Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand.
