ASR -v- transcription - Chica

Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? After they pushed ASR on me, (said that I wouldn't ever get a 50:50 ratio of ASR to transcription) I am getting mostly ASR work. My pay has dropped significantly. Can they do this?

I was making less than minimum wage on ASR, too, and that's why I quit. I could earn more flipping burgers and not have to listen to crap dictators who can barely speak English or mumble-mouthed US doctors who could care less, just hurry and get that dictation over with. All the stress is not worth it when you can work other places and make minimum wage.

Actually MQ pays more for voic rec lines than - other companies...

The range right now for voice rec editing is 40% to 60% of base transcription line. MQ pays 60%.

I get so tired of all these companies getting away with paying us pennies for doing crap work. The dictation quality, the ESLs, and everything else gets worse and we are expected to do more and more for nothing. One of these days, I would not be surprised to find we have to pay them to allow us to work for them.

Yes and I'm assuming you're a newbie to MQ. Some MTs claim VSR is better for them. For myself, have constantly earned lower pay. I only get crap dictation. Type from 100% ESLs who barely speak English. Then I get crap U.S. physicians who do everything possible to disrupt and interject any sound possible into dictation. I am at or below minimum wage now. Some executive sent out email earlier in the year that it was possible to type 600? lines in an hour. Also, one email stated highest earning MT at MQ made $81,000 last year. Might be true. Might be a lie. I know that other MTs would earn higher pay if typing from clear dictation. And, if speech recognition worked as well as MQ and some MTs claim it does. For some of us, myself included, pay is pathetic and getting lower. I've got a job working at Target part-time now that pays more. Leaving as soon as I have another job. MQ requires skilled MT background to transcribe all four report types, but after 20+ years earning lowest pay in my life. MQ does not care. To all MTs for whom this does not apply, please don't respond and tell me to leave MQ and by stating how much you love working for MQ. Regardless, pay is low and getting lower for most of us.

I'm praying for all of us. I just can't believe this. The worse part is actually knowing someone else is trying to live off such low pay. I'm SHOCKED!!!!

I love it! They have to pay you MORE now. I just love it.

Other MMEs who are in the same boat (making much less than they were), might want to give this some thought!

Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Don't work for this company. They are extremely picky. One person tells you to do it one way, another tells you differently. They tell you to leave blanks for another to listen to (that's what we want!) but then complain that you are leaving blanks. No one can hear some of the poor dictators and you need to leave a blank. PLEASE..do not be foolish enough to work for this company!! They are offerring 3 cents for VR. A seasoned MT well versed in voice recognition software, particularly Editscript, produced by eEscription out of Massachusetts, can make 500-600 lines per hour. At 3 cents a line that is slave wages.
