Questions for current Spheris employees - JustMe

I have an interviewed set up for Wednesday. From what I've read, I would prefer getting a job elsewhere but when you have bills to pay that's not always a viable option if nothing else comes along.

1. Does Spheris only hire employees, or do they also hire ICs?
2. What is there requirement in terms of lines per day?
3. Do all MTs get the same line rate or do they pay based on experience?
4. Are you required to do VR or can you request straight typing?
6. What type of platform do they use and how difficult is it to learn?

If you can think of anything else I should know in advance, please pass that information along. Thanks in advance.

1. Spheris does not hire ICs. Employees only.
2. 127.5 LPH.
3. Rate is based on the account you type on. Acute Care is highest.
4. Required to do BOTH VR and straight typing.
6. Cornerstone platform. Honestly, hated it when I first learned it. Now I don't mind it. (It may depend on what you are being hired for too, I believe there still are other platforms within the company but trying to get them all to Cornerstone.)

When recruiter called me to offer me the job and she didn't say acute care or clinic visits, she just said 8 cpl transcription and .0534 cpl VR. As it turned out, I don't think I am doing acute care, but a discharge summary did get assigned to me today, and as far as I know that is acute care, and discharge summaries are not in my affinities. I am assigned clinic notes, admit H&Ps and inpatient progress notes.

I have a question on Acute Care. I did not know they paid more for Acute Care. What is Acute Care? Right now I do clinic notes, H&Ps, Consultations, inpatient progress notes. The only thing I don't do is operative notes and and ER reports and discharge summaries.

do you happen to work on the CHS accounts?? They are considered a level 3. Level 4 is Acute Care, paid out at a higher rate.

CHS accounts are Community Health Systems accounts. CHS "owns" a ton of hospitals that are moving to Spheris for their transcription. We have started transcribing for at least 10-15 of these hospitals in the past year or so, and from what I hear we have at least 30 or so more coming on board in the next couple of years.

We have several CHS accounts. There are over 100 coming aboard and by this summer they are all suppose to be on board with Spheris.

Doesn't look like too many are going to volunteer information on Spheris, but at least they were nice enough (or desperate enough) to get back to me! I saw somewhere on here that they have a week of training that pays 9 something an hour. Maybe that's a good thing. Not loving the idea of another (probably cheap) computer in my house, but like you said, you gotta pay the bills. Best of luck!

It is $9.50 an hour x 40 hours. They provide the computer.

Well, gee, that's what I said. I hesitated before taking the test and hiring, but they got me a shift that was acceptable.

They only hire employees, no ICs. they require 128 lines per hour, 20 hour a week minimum. Same line rate for Medical Transcription Editor, and that means you do straight transcription and voice recognition, whatever is loaded in your queue. You get 8 cpl for transcription and .0534 cpl for VR, with supplementation for a while until you reach a certain number of lines. You cannot request straight typing, as most of their work is VR. The platform they put me on is Clarity Cornerstone and maybe they have other platforms.

1 - I don't think they hire ICs..at least they didn't when I first started.
2 - The line count requirement per day is 1150 lines for full-time, 500/550 for part-time depending on whether you work 4 or 5 hour days.
3 - There are different line rates for "level" of MT i.e., if you only do clinic work you are paid one rate, if you can do ops and all of the other WTs you are paid another, and if you're certified you get top pay.
4 - Most accounts are now on the speech rec platform, so I would think that you would have to have a mix of both transcription and speech rec, but I don't know that for certain.
5 - Their platform is really easy to use and doesn't take long at all to learn.

Wondering if anyone has been let go because of sending over 8% of work to QA. They expect our line count to be at least 135 an hour (which for the most part is easily done), our accuracy to be 98+ and under 8% to QA. Sometimes this is not possible. I do everything I can to not send to QA (relisten, utilize google, books, relisten, adjust speed/sound, did I mention relisten, relisten, relisten).....but lets face it there are a boatload of dictators that are just impossible. ...

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor. You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars. Hey Spheris MTs out there. I worked for Spheris for a while not too long ago but quit for another company. Nothing wrong with Spheris at all, just love the new company flexibility much, much more. I loved the expander program Spheris used (Shorthand 10.0) so much that I ended up buying the program to use on my new job.
