Optiscript - how flexible? - Sunflower

Posted: Nov 18, 2011

Can anyone shed light  on how flexible optiscript in State College is?  I read on here how the unit manager will work with you if you need to change a schedule or need time off, but if you give an 8 hour schedule do they mind if you do not always adhere to it minute by minute or do they give you a little room to breathe.  I heard they have split shifts but just wondering how strict they are with the schedules you give.  TIA.

no flexibility at all - GL

The company is so small they may as well be sitting in your office with you while you work because that is how much they track your every move. I would not go there if you need any flexibility at all.

Do you work there now? Is it fair to say they micromanage? - Sunflower

I work at MQ now. sign in and out on time card. They have a certain amount of time they allow for the program and time card to match. I cannot remember the exact time it cannot be off (too many changes to keep up with). So far for me the scheduled time working has not been too bad but I do split shifts so maybe that is why. too much micromanaging going on. I have read other posts where optiscript does not play games but big on quality and scheduling. I just feel if MQ wants a reason to let go of someone they will find a way. too much stress there. TIA

They give micromanage a whole new meaning - GL

Too small. I just cannot recommend it.
Do you care to elaborate?? Still have not said if you work there or have worked there. - Sunflower

Can you be more affirmative in your response?

Optiscript - flexibility depends - pansy

There is more flexibility with clinic work, no weekends, basically 24 hours to get your work done. But the line pay is lower.

Some of the acute care accounts have 2 hour TAT, and there's a pretty strict schedule for that work. And the pay is really very good, especially compared to other companies. I think they have a right to expect that when they pay better.

I guess that's one of the things I've seen on this board. Some MTs want the higher pay but don't want to work for it and complain about everything. I'm happy at Optiscript and I know lots of others who are too. But it wouldn't be a good match for those who want to wait until Saturday and work all their hours, etc. That may be micro-management to some, but to me it's why they don't overhire and run a pretty tight ship. That allows them to pay us a little more, I think.

Don't base any decisions about a company by comments on this board. Who knows, they may have been fired for something very serious and just have sour grapes.

Just my 2 cents.

Can I email you? - CocoaBeans

Would not mind talking to you a little more about this! TIA

Optiscript Layoff Due To Nuance
Aug 03, 2014

taking biggest account.  Two weeks ago, Opti lost their last Nuance-generated account back to Nuance, which was their biggest, and then let some MTs go due to lack of work, even if they weren't on the account lost (which is just a weed out process to keep only their best or those with CMT-which is not fair if you held up your end of the bragain from the beginning). This brings Opti down to skeleton accounts, (4 or 5) which usually don't have any work. TTS is the last to contrac ...

Being A Flexible MT
Apr 03, 2012

I interviewed this morning for a transcription position that I will need to be flexible for front and back office backup. This interests me and I am very interested in it as I think MTs need to be more flexible in this day and age. This is a sole FP physician and she does do EMR but also keeps her own chart record by using the sticky back paper. So she does double duty. I believe this is a wonderful idea and will keep some of us MTs working into the future. She always has the record there w ...

Independent Contractor - Must Have Flexible Schedule To Qualify For IC Status
Mar 11, 2010

I am thinking about pursuing a job as an independent contractor as I am retired and want something to do more than the money (retired hospital transcriptionist). It is my understanding that an IC must have flexible schedule to qualify for IC status, yet the job ads specify second and third shift as well as weekend days. Can they do this? I know the government is cracking down on ICs to make sure they are truly ICs (we all know the transcription companies will do everything to preserve their bo ...

Companies With Employee Status That Offer Flexible Schedules?
Aug 05, 2012

I know this has probably been asked so many times on this board, but I am currently working for a company as an employee, full time, and I'd really like to move on. I've been there 6 years and the only thing that is holding me back right now is the fact that I need to have a flexible schedule and I don't really want IC status.  Right now, I work 2 hours in the morning and 6-7 hours in the evenings. However, if one of my kids has a dance class or karate in the evening and I&# ...

Optiscript Part Time To Full Time
Nov 19, 2011

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done.  I am thinking of cutting down to part time at my current employee so I can work part time elsewhere and eventually just leave my current employee once I see how the land lays elsewhere.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated :) ...
