Global Information Systems (GIS) - Help Please
Posted: Jan 30, 2013
Can someone that works or has worked for GIS please explain this to me?
I was offered a position for straight typing at GIS. I was told that the pay is only 5 cpl, despite years of experience. I was told by the recruiter that it is 90% template work and my average pay would be 15 cpl and that is why they could only offer the 5 cpl.
Is this true? I really need a job, but can't imagine how to make money with 5 cpl.
Yea, I was fed the same bologna and then was so poor had to eat bologna! - sm

They told me the exact same thing and that was DEFINITELY not the case for me! I realized later that I should have been more cautious of any company that tells you that they will pay you X amount of money, because you CAN make XX amount of dollars. Truthfully, does that even make sense?
With me, it was not anywhere near 90% pull-in lines, I would estimate 5%. With that being said, the platform is so slow that it took me longer to pull in those few lines than it did to actually type them!
I know someone on here below said she did have many pull-in lines and it works for her. Another problem I would have is that even if they did hire you with "90% pull-in lines" like they claim, what happens if they lose that doctor and then you are stuck with zero pull-in lines. Will they give you a raise, perhaps raise you up to this 15 cpl, which they claim you can "potentially" make?
I think it is B.S. to be quite frank. I don't think a company should hire an MT with the understanding of how much they could "potentially" equal out to making per line. We get paid by the line and the pay should be what we get, plain and simple. If we happen to get an easy doctor and our pay averages out to be more, then it should be OUR benefit, at least we get to make up for the crappy doctors that caused us to make pennies at some other point.
I worked there three months. - ExGIS

I had one doctor that kept me busy 25 hours per week. My pay was $150 every TWO weeks! So, my math isn't the best, but that is 50 hours for $150 so I made a whopping $3.00 per hour. I spent more time navigating around the very horrid platform than I did typing and I had about three lines pulled in on each report (just enough to make the platform even slower!)
I did email my supervisor (a former MT) and told her that this whole idea that I was supposed to make so much more than it seemed was not working out for me and guess what.....she offered to add an additional doctor for me! So, wow, I get to work 5 hours daily for $3 bucks an hour, I guess I should have opted for another doctor, that way I could have made maybe $30 bucks for a 10-hour day as opposed to $15 bucks for a 5-hour day!
Some companies are ridiculous in what they expect, makes me shake my head!
total BS - xgis

That whole sales pitch about pulling in lines and you'll make loads of money is a load, but not of money.
I was there a month and made next to nothing. Who can afford to do that? I'm pretty sure the powers that be there are not making 5 cpl and are able to feed their families and afford extravagant things like, I don't know CLOTHES maybe?
It's outrageous.
You are asking for too much - sm

You're supposed to make your clothes out of your food packaging now, silly. You must have missed that memo.

I was hired for 5 cpl and got paid just that. All of the promises that it would "seem more" didn't happen.
They know what they tell you is false also. I know this, because there is a 24-hour TAT and you are allowed to work whatever hours you want. Well, I generally would start working around 8:00 a.m., but one day I had a doctor's appointment and didn't get started early. I didn't notify my supervisors, because I knew I would be back in plenty of time to make TAT.
When I got back home I had probably 20 emails from both supervisors asking me what happened, where was I, they were "worried" about me, etc. I emailed them back and told them that I wasn't aware that I was supposed to notify them of my appointment since I could clearly make TAT and they said I wasn't supposed to, that it was fine, they were just worried I had quit. They said that so many people just quit without notice, so if someone is MIA for even a short while they get very concerned.
This is exactly what made me realize that people quit because they don't make money, so I wasn't the only one. I also know that the two MTs running the show aren't idiots, they know exactly why these people are quitting as well.
I know this is old but wanted to respond - sm - GIS-IC now

I have been working for GIS for about 6 or so months. I hope they did not actually tell you .15cpl. I was never handed any of that, but then I was coming from a company that lost the work to GIS and knew how it was. I was getting less then .05 for those edit reports so it was a step up, though a step down for the new/straight typing reports (0.08), which fortunately for me I did not do a lot of. I am not the fastest typist in the world and kept my accounts from before which I like very much. I will continue to make $2K+ a month as I am used to making. I don't have a pool of work, I have assigned doctors. I see people on here complaining constantly of how they hate pool work, cannot get good at any doctor as they only see a report from them once every two weeks because they type 300 or more different doctors, all hard ESL, how they have no work, how they only make $5/hour, work all day for $10, etc. Here while I may only get 5cpl I, I can make up to $25/hour depending on the account I am working, of course that is not a consistent wage but I do do that from time to time, but on average make $100 a day which is what I want to make a day. ----Also I do not have to report to anyone when I leave my desk or step out for a few hours, unlike the person above. Now if I was behind in my work for some reason I would probaly let a manager know I had to go out for a few hours but otherwise no. I am in and out like crazy, have never come back to a bunch of emails asking me where I was or why I was not working. I do let my co-worker know though as we look out for each other with stats but that is pretty much it. -----I know everyone has different experiences with each company. I have work for a few here some loved but I didn't, just depends on the right fit for you and your circumstances.

GLOBAL INFO SYSTEMS (GIS) Jul 03, 2012Need recent info on GIS please. Just been contacted by them for an IC position, straight typing @.05 a line! When I asked why so low, I was informed there is a ton of docs, work and a lot of repetition in the templates, so they feel you are getting a lot of free lines! That being said, I'm still shocked that these companies continue to go lower and lower on the line rates! Considering I have been an MT over 20 years, this is crazy to me, but I did read a couple of old posts here that this i ...

Global Info Systems Deceiving On DoD Contract Statement And Others Jan 23, 2014The statement they posted earlier in MTStars about the Dept of Defense is incorrect. DPTS won the contract. Global is a "subcontractor" of DPTS. Therefore, DPTS is 1 of 4 companies proven, not GIS. Also, it shows on the website that the CEO is Indian and their other office is in India, so yes, it is OWNED by an Indian. Also, they started out in the post stating "THEY" and "anonymous" then put "See you at the conference", etc. Shows that you are the m ...
