Global Info Systems - anyone had worked for this company before - Texas Gal
Posted: Jun 02, 2013
Was wondering if anyone had worked for this company before. They are based in Odessa, Texas I believe. Any and all information is appreciated. I'm new here to MT Stars. Thanks!
Do a search. They were noted to be paying only 5 cpl! NM - Wandering

Pay is 5 cpl. Platform is Scribe - Word based.
They try to sell you on the idea that you will make money from all the free lines you will pull in. Well, that's only true for some of the MTs. You are assigned your own doctors. Some MTs get no lines pulled in. Some MTs get 1-2 lines pulled in. Some dictators are cake. Some are horrid. Many are challenging enough that that 5 cpl, unless you're pulling in major free lines is going to bankrupt you.

They pay 5 cpl, so figure up what you can make per hour with that low of pay (it is straight typing by the way). I know there is one person on here that swears she makes a gold mine with that 5 cpl, but many others, including myself, that didn't make ANYTHING!
Im pretty sure whoever is making good money at 5/pl is management saying this - - No one would take this low

Seriously - even if you transcribe 1200-1400 lines, you still are not making much, and it really is insulting that they are looking for skilled people and paying minimum wage IF you transcribe 1400 lines..
i'm not management - GIS MT

In my post I said I average 30,000 lines per pay period. That works out to 2700 to 3000 lines per day (depending on how many days in the pay period). So, that's at least $17.00 per hour and sometimes I do better than that. That's definitely not minimum wage.

I work for GIS. Yes, it is 5 cents a line. I've typed several docs and some are easier than others, so it could be the luck of the draw. I have 2 docs, one great, one so-so, and I'm making good money, usually getting around 30,000 lines per pay (bi-monthly). Even if you get a doc that isn't that great, once you get used to him your line counts should go up. It's not like you have a hundred doctors you're trying to figure out all the time, and you can make templates for all their pet phrases.
Pay is on time, and you get a report of all your lines so you can check it against your records. If they've missed any, a quick email takes care of the problem.
They are very accommodating if you need time off and will find someone to cover your doctors. Also, if you want more work you can help out wherever they need someone.
I like working for GIS. 24-hour TAT, good communication with bosses, and assigned doctors. No cherry picking!
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
Totally agree with you, I too work for GIS - sm - InkMT

and not management. I made a lateral move to GIS as my MTSO lost their accounts to GIS. I was paid then 0.03 for the brought forwards reports then and 0.08 for straight typing (2500 lines maybe). Now with GIS it is all 0.05, but as I don't do much straight typing this is a raise for me. I am not working as hard (cut back) and I still make 20,000+ lines on average a pay period, with 3 doctors, 2 are ESL (not bad at all) that pretty much everyone else hates for some reason but I love, guess they want the perfectly clear doctors which there are some. I can live with that. I know several other MTs who work for GIS doing 20,000+ lines a pay period too with one or two doctors. Yes there are good and bad accounts, but more good here than bad luckily, but that goes with any IC job. Here at least you do the same doctors every day, get a feel for your work load so you know what to expect every 2 weeks, none of this coming on MTStars and complaining you have NJA, or have to clock out, or have horrible ESLs, or made $2/hour. I average $100 a day most pay periods, sometimess less as the work ebbs and flows but I am fine with making $800 and not $1K every two weeks too. The way everyone complains on here no one makes more than $300 every two weeks as it is, so I am way ahead of the game I guess. So I will gladly take less cpl when I have steady work, don't have to type as much (not super fast) and can get really good at my doctors since I do the sames ones every day and not have to deal with a pool of 300+ doctors (BTDT). This is the most I have ever made working anywhere, and I have worked for quite a few MTSOs as an IC and employee over the last 15 years.

Could you please tell me what platform they use. Also, how long after training before you actually know what you're doing? Are the reports automatically named by the software so you don't have to worry about learning that part of it? Thank you for any help.
platform - GIS MT
[ In Reply To ..]
They use Scribe. You can type directly in Scribe or type in Word & paste the report back in (which I prefer to do). I have to say this is not my favorite platform, but like the other GIS poster, I'm making more here than at any other job in my dozen or so years as an MT, whether IC or employee.
You don't have to enter demographics, they are already in there for you. You also have access to the chart, very helpful if you need to confirm a DOB, medication, referring physician, etc.
Hope this helps!
thank you for your post but - carol2

you didn't answer my question re how the document is named, i.e., does the platform automatically name the document or do they have a "formula" to follow and when you save the document it is what the document is named? Once again, thank you.
I sent you an email last night on this - sm - InkMT
[ In Reply To ..]
If you are in scribe you do not have to save it with any name at all, you paste it in (you are in that person's report)and hit save, then hit finish. You are done. Scribe processes automatically saving it with their naming system. Now if you want to keep a copy on your computer then save it any which way you want, Smith6.2.13 with the visit date or Smith-999555 with the MR#, or Smith-125565548 with the voice file number, however you want to do it. This is a not anything you need to worry about.

So, I was doing searches on GIS/IMEDX and came across this post. Can you say if you still work for them and if you still make as much money? Just curious. TIA!!

It's not really fair that some people can make okay and some cannot, depending on your doctors, yet you are all paid the same.
I had two doctors and neither had pulled lines. One was a rad onc doctor and each report was 3-4 lines, so really it took longer running the slow platform than actually typing the report. I averaged about 3 bucks an hour.
Also, I asked off ONE time while I worked there and was told that I had to wait and see if someone was willing to cover my doctor. A mass email was then sent out asking for a volunteer to cover an extra doctor for that day and then later I received an email from supervisor that nobody had volunteered, so I couldn't take off. Perhaps other people were out during that time and they couldn't be flexible with me, not sure, but I saw no flexibility.
not sure... s/m - GIS MT

You could check the other MT jobs site, they usually post there. This info is for the Oncology side. They also have an acute care side, but I believe they have a mix of straight typing and VR. You'll need to have oncology experience for the oncology side, which has no VR, just straight typing and templates. Also, I don't know if they have assigned doctors on the acute care side.

Thank you ladies! It would seem that, aside from the cpl, GIS is like most other MTSOs in that some people are very pleased and some are not so much. I greatly appreciate all the information from both sides. It always helps to have feedback when trying to make a decision. Thanks again!

What about their QA department? Are they fair, picky, etc.? Not saying I'm a slacker though.

They will sometimes email you feedback. There's also a place on the platform where you can go to see what your blanks were.

GLOBAL INFO SYSTEMS (GIS) Jul 03, 2012Need recent info on GIS please. Just been contacted by them for an IC position, straight typing @.05 a line!
