I see only one fairly recent post on Focus Infomatics and the responder just said "Indian owned company, I believe." Does anyone out there know for sure? Does anyone out there work for this company and, if yes, would you recommend them? IThanks!

I can say that I have been hired by them twice. Each time I have never actually been up and running because their whole hiring process took 2+ months and by that time I had found something else. I am actually in the middle of round two with them now. I can say that they ALL have seemed VERY nice. They have lots of paperwork. They are also Indian owned and have businesses both in India and in America. I asked them if they outsource and they told me that they do but usually the overnight work and holiday work. I am not sure how accurate that is. I can say that I have been paid for some training that has been received. They also use Escription and Dictaphone. They both are great platforms, BUT they only do VR (UGH!). The pay is $0.08 (transcribing) and $0.04 (editing). Pay is every two weeks and they only hire as employees. They have a decent benefit package including insurance, direct deposit, etc. I found all were quite organized except my leader, who seems overwhelmed and I believe she forgets frequently who is available, new or currently working there as I have sent multiple emails when I can train and she keeps scheduling for the time I keep telling her I am not available. The last email was me emailing her a reminder for training for last Thursday, which she asked me to do and that is the last I have heard. I am a bit frustrated as to if this is really who I want to work for but when you need work what do you do...

I have worked for Focus since August of last year. The hiring process did not take as long for me as the other poster - nor did the software download, as I was able to do that myself. Unsure about whether they are Indian owned. However, they do some offshore - it is at night - 10pm to 6am - and only for certain facilities. During the day work is onshore for all facilities. Management is onshore. Most support (computers, software, etc.) is onshore. They do have direct deposit, benefits, PTO, etc. The team leads that I have dealt with so far have been good - as the other poster said, I think a few of them are less organized than you would hope but for the most part they are able to answer your questions and get back to you in a timely manner. There is one large account that just went live and this HUGE with a good portion of ESLs and also there is another LARGE account that will be starting soon. I believe that the amount of work is pretty good. All in all, I have been happy with my experience as pretty much everything I was told when hired has been true. The only thing that I haven't found to be true as of yet is the policy of promotion from within. Otherwise, it is all pretty good. If you have other questions, just ask and I'll try to answer. Oh - and I'm not in management - I'm actually a QC! :)

Focus hires a large number of domestic (US) MTs who train the speech engines with their accurate reports. They they lay off those MTs and send all the work offshore with the speech drafts a lot more accurate. The work is then all done by offshore MTs. That's been their model for several years now. They are owned by Nuance (same company who bought Dictaphone a few years ago) but the workforce is primariliy in India.

This is just not true. They do not hire US MTs and then fire them, sending the work offshore. There are 2 separate managements for onshore and offshore. Offshore types at night for SOME accounts but otherwise each division has their own accounts and own contracts.

Yes.I worked for them for a little while only. But, I would not recommend them to anyone. Their software program sucks, (editscript). It takes forever to type a report because they have you checking patient info on top of the page and correcting it all of the time. By the time you get to typing the report you have already typed maybe 6 lines just doing that. Anyway, yes, I would not recommend these people unless you are a PERFECT transcriptionist. Their QA is very strict and they expect absolutely NO errors, EVER! I do not like this company at all.
They told me they were going to give me a radiology account when I first started and then I kept waiting and waiting for this account and it never came, so I got stuck with things that I really did not know, i.e. Operatives, etc. They are a rip off.

I received an e-mail today from a recruiter at Focus Infomatics. I applied there last year and didn't meet their experience criteria but the e-mail asked me to send them an updated resume to see if I do now (and I do). I currently work for MQ and quite frankly, I could take it or leave it. I've not been impressed by MQ but I don't see a reason to leave a job I'm not fond of for another job I may like even less. I looked through the archives but couldn't find anything about their platform. I did speak with their recruiter and YOU HAVE to have a 32-bit operating system, XP or Vista, and Windows 7 is not compatible. I'm pretty sure that when I looked at these guys about a year ago now, they set you their computer like many of the national companies do. Also, does it seem like more employers are looking for MTs. A former manager of mine from "brand X MTSO" (in reality, a very dear friend now) got thrown under the bus. She knows how "QBay" does. She is considering an MT or QA job for Focus Infomatics. Focus claims to not offshore, and has offered my friend 8 cpl. That sounds terribly lame wage wise for all that experience. Hi. I have a question about pay at Focus that hopefully someone can answer. Transcription is paid at 8 cents per line and editing at 3 or 4 cents a line. I have been working at Focus now for 2 weeks. I think everyone is nice. All my QAs have seemed fair except today one QA (and only this one) counts off for blanks. Well the team lead said you are not penalized for blanks when I hired on. She said you won't be dinged for blanks.
