I posted this question below but fear it will be buried.

To those of you just hired at Focus, how's the pay scale?

I currently make 8.5 straight/4.5 editing.

Is it comparable to, higher than or lower than that?

I'd never ask anyone to divulge their pay scale but I'm trying to get a feel for if it's better than where I'm at.

TIA to anyone willing to give me a ballpark hint here!

Focus is out of Boston but does offshore work to India during the night. They don't have massive layoffs. They have just garnered a bunch of new accounts because they are a subsidiary of Nuance, which also owns Dictaphone and Escription. They are hiring new MTs and QAs to cover these accounts. You must apply at their website for consideration.

I think the layoff place was SoftScript nm - Might be remembering wrong.

Yes, Focus is the offshore company owned by Nuance. They sell Focus services to hospitals and clinics with the "follow the sun" option--cheaper because the work is done offshore. Then they hire QA and support staff in the US. Most of the transcription and editing is done in India.

In the past few years they have a history of hiring lots of US folks for a new account, then as the offshore team gets up to speed, they lay off the US staff and utilize the India team.

big Indian corporations. Let the US team get the accounts going and then send them to India where they are eventually lost due to poor quality. They never seem to learn...

What is stated above is not entirely accurate. Yes, Focus does have an offshore team based in India. Yes they do have their "Follow the Sun" program.

However, US QAs are not hired to review the work done in India. The India team has their own QA team, and the US team has their own MTs and QAs. In some cases, there are accounts that are done partly onshore and partly off. There are other accounts that are exclusively one side or the other.

However, a US-based QA does not review India-typed reports and vice versa.

In the time I have been with this company, the only time I have had to QA overseas reports was when the team I am on was requested to do third level for the client..basically QAing their QA. and that was just a very random, very rare occurrence.

I would like to respond to the post about "following the sun" program I have been working for Focus for 1 year and actually work on some of the accounts that are "follow the sun" Focus has more work flow then ever before on the US side and no MT's or QC's are being laid off.

The work is not being sent off shore it is shared between on and off shore and US Work flow is more than enough to keep us busy.

If you have questions or anything, talk to the recuriters they are there to answer any questions you may have. They are upfront and honest about how everything works. They Focus is a wonderful company to work for and have always been a reliable and trustworthy corporation.

Lets see if i make 3/6 a line that comes to 250 x 0.03 = 7.50 an hour -- wow minimum wage. 150 x 0.06 = 9.00 an hour -- McDonald's wages. At 4/7 250 x 0.04 = 10.00 an hour - Do you see the different 1 cents makes? 150 x 0.07 = 10.50 an hour even if you did slightly better and could do 300 lines an hour editing you would only get 9.00 an hour. Just got an offer from MedQuist for Tier 2 but at a pay rate of 0.08/line with what is, in my opinion, a difficult work schedule for someone with a young family. For *pain* scale (1-10), i was taught to add the range if not dictated. Example: D: Pain was a 5. T: Pain was a 5/10. I'm not familiar with *function* scale. This is a spine surgeon. This particular patient is having neck and shoulder issues (if that matters). Is there a specific *function* scale? As best I can calculate, the Indian MTs are started at about $40/week. This is not an error. I looked at both the application from Nuance (which can be found by googling) as well as the exchange rate. So when you see all the "extras" they are offered, try not to be jealous; they can't buy groceries with those extras. Apparently they are as dissatisfied with the management of the MTSOs as are we Americans. The question seems to be how many will continue to work for such low salaries and ...
