6 cents a line for straight, 3 cents for VR - Worn out

They seem to expect you to just hit the ground running right away. I just started with them and spent almost $300. upgrading my equipment for them and they still are not happy. Internet too slow, I'm too slow, etc. You have to be sitting at the keyboard and pounding away the whole time, have to sign out if you use the bathroom, etc. If 3 cents a line is OK with you and all the other things as well, have at it.

I work for them part time and love them. They leave me alone to do my job. I have work anytime I want it and if I need more hours I can take them. The only downside is there are a few very difficult ESL doctors but I just leave blanks. I am not penalized as I am with my other employer for leaving more than the allotted number of blanks. You can leave 3 per report which is great, but if you have to leave more then so be it. You are not crucified for it. No problem with taking breaks either. I love them.

Are you IC or employee and/or work 2nd or 3rd shift? I've been with them for a while (employee status) and don't get that much. To the first poster...why, oh why did you accept such a low line rate? That's really low.

I had some big bills that needed to be paid and was laid off from my former company with NO notice whatsoever. I went to sign on one night to work and there was an email stating that starting TOMORROW, I was either on p.r.n. status or my contract would be terminated. I went into panic mode. I probably won't stay with them-- too much stress and other garbage for so little money.

I also am part time and work a 2nd shift of 4 hours but literally could have worked any shift I wanted. This was the only one that fit in with my other job. This is what they offered me which is what I make with my other job so it was fine with me. Most of mine is VR but I do about 500 to 600 LPH of straight typing every 2 weeks.

With part time, was IC your only option or could you have been a part-time employee? I'm asking because I'm thinking of asking to go part time later this year. I'd do IC but prefer employee status. Thanks.

They gave me the option and I picked IC because I am full time with my other job and don't need coverage but could have it through them if needed.

That is a horrendously low rate as it is. I cannot imagine going lower. I hope that every seasoned MT is in a place where they can draw the line there and refuse another slap in the face.

I worked for MedQuist from 2003 until the merger, 9 cpl since I worked evening/nights, straight typing. That was 10 years ago.

I live in a rural area. They didn't like my internet speed, so I upgraded it to the highest I could get here. It's still too slow. I did not have Word on my computer as I have never needed it before, so I had to buy and install that. Then they said my foot pedal was too old so I had to be a new one. It just keeps on. I'm still too slow for them on their VR as you have to read not only 17 pages of printed instructions, but each report you bring up has its OWN set of instructions that you have to read before you can even start working. then you have to check the dictators' list to make sure the dictator has privileges or whether he/she needs a co-signer, etc. I had a problem with my computer locking up and the only way I could get it to unlock was to totally shut down and reboot, having to go through all the loading, etc., which also cut into my time. This was being an employee, not just an IC. Is it worth 3 cents a line? I think not.

I'm not happy with 8 and 4 but that is what I made with Medquist, now Nuance and with TTS. I have a fairly new computer and it has Word 2007 on it and a fairly new foot pedal that actually Nuance sent me a couple of years ago so I didn't have to provide anything. I have high speed cable so my downloading time is next to nothing and I have plenty of memory. It is also my home computer but I am the only one who uses it.

PAY to upgrade your internet provider, BUY Word (not cheap) as well as BUY a new foot pedal (to their liking)... for 3 cents a line?

You'd have to work a whole year at that rate just to pay for the upgraded internet, new Word & new pedal.

switch/upgrade to cable within the next few weeks/month or so. I'm thinking of applying, but just paid & renewed my satellite for another month - it's just not in my budget right now to spend $100 to cancel & get cable.

I'll see what they say. They only specified "high speed internet" without saying which kind.

What I won't do, though, is spend one dime on upgrades on my PC before even working for them - the job might not even last enough for me to recover my expenditures. They want upgrades for US to pay? (BS/LOL). Let them send me a computer.

your computer before they'll "let" you work for them .. at 6/3 ... which, BTW, is the LOWEST RATE I HAVE SEEN, EVER, ANYWHERE!

How long do you think you'd have to work at that rate just to even recover the $300 you spent, just to appease them, never mind any sort of chump change/living expenses?

I'm independently wealthy, living on a trust fund and only doing MT for MTSOs to torture myself ... I can wait for my 1st paycheck from that job (3rd/4th week in that month)...since my bills will hold until then (LOL).
