The company I currently work for has a Comcast email address, and I've never had any problems with them.

Given that Comcast is one of the largest cable providers, it's just not sensible to write a company off because they are using their Comcast email. I have a business in another profession where image is everything and have never EVER had an issue because I use the Comcast email. Sheesh, seems sometimes people will stretch every direction to find a negative comment to make.

The reason it is a red flag for an MTSO to use a generic email address, whether it be Comcast, yahoo, gmail, or whatever, is NOT because the email provider is a problem. The problem is that the MTSO has not invested enough in their own business to bother hosting their own web site and getting a domain-name type address, i.e., HRDepartment@big-name-company.com This is a clue that the company is cheap, not that Comcast is a bad internet provider. Anybody's great-grandma's Yorkie terrier can get a yahoo or comcast email address. That does NOT tell me that the business will be around next week!

Actually my comcast address reflects my business name as well as my website. I don't feel I'm less legitimate because I don't use my domain for email. As a professional (in my other business far removed from MT), no one has ever commented that I'm not legitimate because my email is comcast. That's just nuts IMO.

You can disagree...it is your right. I and many other people will disregard a company that provides any type of service - if the company does not have an email address with an @business-name email address.

When people cannot see or visit your business in a storefront, having an email address with a @business-name ending adds a lot more credibility.

I would never email my resume or other personal information to an @comcast email address. Again, THIS IS MY OPINION.

I'm with you! I would opt for the professional e-mail addy as well. Certain things (and this just my opinion!) scream "unprofessional"--not having a business e-mail and having a website with angel wings on it being among them.

sometimes no news is good news. My company has a Comcast email address, but they don't have a website, and they're still a great company to work for (very small MTSO). Don't listen to the negativity. If that ad didn't post contact information and a company name, then I'd say you might have something to worry about. Good luck!

I have worked for 10 years for a small MTSO (they have a name) who now has a Comcast email address (it has changed over the years depending upon their ISP changes), and they do not have a web site and have been in business for 25 years. All of their business comes from physician referrals/word of mouth. Thus, they do not need a web site. They have all the work they can handle, and for that I am thankful. Hate to think I would have turned them down 10 years ago (or even today) because of such advice as has been given here. When this company needs a transcriptionist, they search resumes at various sites because they do not want to be flooded with offshore applicants or inexperienced transcriptionists. I venture to say there are others like them who will not post jobs but rather search resumes looking for those with the skill set and experience they need. Those who have been so negative here on this thread ought to zip the lip and stop making blanket statements on an issue they obviously have no knowledge. One size does not fit all. I'm working for a company that is proof postive of that, and so are you!

My MTSO still uses AOL. Didn't matter to me when I wanted a job! NM - deb

This company has NO information on the internet via google search. No listing in dexknows.com.

I wouldn't think Escription Company would give accounts to an India-based company though..

This just smells fishy.

I believe greed has taken over the transcription industry. If the client is charged so much per line, does he only have to pay half for voice recognition? I doubt it. The conglomerate I type for mostly (which is about 30 university clinics, each with 150 or so non-English-speaking residents) sends almost everything in "letter" form. There is a useless letter standard, but I spend the first 1-2 minutes of the dictation on the address (and have to manually re-enter into the cc list), usually have to go Google to try to find how Dr. Swishandswash spells his name and address in Podunkville.
