Why is it anybody's business? - anon

I really resent the fact of being critiqued on how i transcribe/edit a report. Why is it anybody's business if I use the mouse, keystrokes, or type it with my toes, as long as the report gets done? I'm sure we all have different styles that work for us - so what's wrong with that? This is carrying micro-management way too far.

Because we are supposed to be machines now. More production, less quality is my gripe. I can do 1200 a day but have trouble hitting 1500. Just thought I'd gripe, lol.

Geez, they are just giving you ideas on how to improve. - Using the mouse slows you down.

There are some tried-and-true methods and they are trying to show you.

But, the hard-headed ones, like yourself, who feel they know best will just keep on keepin' on in their set ways and keep on not hitting their personal best.

First of all, I AM NOT A MACHINE nor am I hard headed, so do not treat me like a machine. Giving us advice and suggestions to help MT is really only to help out MQ. You want us to produce faster and better for YOUR benefit. If it was for ours, you would give us raises. By the way, mine was 12 years ago!!

This has done nothing but making me quit. I HAVE HAD IT! I only get paid by what I produce, but THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR!! ESPECIALLY, being threatened that I will be fired because of the new HIPAA laws. I AM ONLY HUMAN FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!

Can we now go to the higher ups and micromanage them? Maybe we can help them and show them how to treat their MT's better?

One-hundred percent what you said.
I say get out now and start building up equity with a company who we can trust at least somewhat, and moreover, shows employees respect. Right now, MQ is on a Bernie Madoff level, as far as I'm concerned. There is no place to go but down with this company. Companies ARE hiring and pay decent wages for real transcription, at least for the current economy and WAY more than MQ pays. Take the time and look now before everybody else does and gets those - they are out there. mtjobs I know it stinks hunting for a new job, but you have to do what you have to do.

they will probably find out the production problem lies in the ASR program. Further proof about just how much work we have to do to fix this pile of junk. I suspect this will be swept back under the rug soon. They should be knocking on the programer's door if they want more production.

We all have stories of docs who multitask and dictate while _____(fill in the blank). I can be as proficient as MQ wants me to be and use all my "resources" but if the doc cannot dictate properly then he gets the best report I can do and if that means 20+ blanks then so be it. And no I will not send to QA for reports like that.

I wish just MQ wasn't afraid to talk to these docs/clients and hand out some basic dictation practices. They aren't gods and most of them probably do not even realize that yes we can hear them flirting with the nurses even though the put the phone down or discussing other patients full names and info (which is in itself a HIPPA violation). Garbage in and you get garbage out, don't punish the MTs and invest in some decent audio rather than stupid 6.1.

Same old story, they want me to improve my production, but there is only so much work to go around. There is just not enough volume in my service area to be able to hit my "personal best." I get NJA for 10 to 12 minutes at a time, lowers my LPH. Can only go faster on Friday nights when I know other MTs are off.

You are saying even though there are MTs who have attended ASR "workshops," instructions, webinars, etc., and have been doing this for years need to learn "tried and true methods" and more little hints by "experts" and, even though the MTs have their methods down to a science, you actually believe they are going to show the MTs some new tricks, eh? The ones who refuse to learn even more new tricks are hard-headed, eh?

I get to a heading and doctor states,"Medical decision making and Emergency Department course." However, the heading shows MEDICAL DECISION MAKING and leaves off the Emergency Department Course under the heading.

NEWSFLASH FOR ASR EDUCATORS! I have to literally type out letter by letter E-M-E-R-G-E-N-C-Y D-E-P-A-R-T-M-E-N-T C-0-U-R-S-E.

WHY????? Because while you are in the heading, ASR will not let me use a macro. Used to to be able to do it before the the upgrade. GREAT JOB!!!!

Someone on this board was nice enough to help me with it. However, I was able to use macro for YEARS in the heading, then it was changed where you cannot anymore. Always have to learn new tricks I guess which tends to slow you down because once you learn something, IT CHANGES.

This is exactly why they are trying to do "tips" for people. If you use your keyboard you can highlight and use the heading shortcuts (make your own if they are not there) and use about 3 keystrokes to make just about any heading already formatted. There is no need to type out anything.

By the way - the programmers made sure that highlighting and typing over headings does not produce a skip marker - now you know why.

I keep getting surveys as though I am a business with employees (how many employees, size of building I run my business from, etc). I believe greed has taken over the transcription industry. If the client is charged so much per line, does he only have to pay half for voice recognition? I doubt it. The conglomerate I type for mostly (which is about 30 university clinics, each with 150 or so non-English-speaking residents) sends almost everything in "letter" form. There is a useless letter standard, but I spend the first 1-2 minutes of the dictation on the address (and have to manually re-enter into the cc list), usually have to go Google to try to find how Dr. Swishandswash spells his name and address in Podunkville.
