to get the process going and get all the paperwork done so our checks can start as soon as possible. I wonder if that's where some of the confusion is happening.

I've never heard anything about having to quit work 3 months before applying or getting a check.

As always, EVERYONE needs to either call or go in to the local office to talk to someone who can look your records up and tell you exactly what will happen in your individual case.
