That's not the point - Kimber

I'm pretty sure that nobody here is trying to give her a hard time, but warn her that MT is far from the career that it was a decade ago. The fact that any schools are still offering MT courses seems like outright fraud and deception to me. Any school that still offers an MT course is automatically not reputable in my eyes. As someone else mentioned, it is difficult enough for those of us with years of experience to find a decent job in this field these days, so imagine how hard (if not impossible) it would be for a complete newbie fresh out of school with zero experience. I won't even get into the pitiful wages that these companies are now paying for speech wreck editing. Long gone are the days of making 9 to 12 cpl and having cushy employee status with benefits. Almost everything is IC now. The OP needs to hear the truth and be fully aware of what she is getting herself into. If I was in her shoes and was putting time and money into a course to learn a trade that is dying, I sure as hell would want someone to give me a fair warning. Sure, it's great to learn anatomy and physiology as well as medical terminology, but there are plenty of other fields that she could go into where she would also learn these things. I'd much rather see us veteran MTs who know the real, raw truth about the current state of our industry be brutally honest with the OP rather than sugar coat it and give her false hopes. It would be absolutely wrong and unfair of us to give her anything but the blatant truth.
