It particularly went downhill when Nuance bought all the medium-size MTSOs (over the past 5, 6 years). Now Nuance uses small MTSOs to outsource work and work is disappearing constantly.
Offshoring, outsourcing and technology are replacing domestic MTs.
There are still editing jobs but very little pay, constantly running out of work, no benefits, no security, nothing. It's not a good move to get into MT at this point unless you just need to supplement income.
The market is completely saturated with experienced MTs so pay doesn't budge. There's no MT demand anymore.
If you're doing this as a career and a breadwinner, please find something else.
