MT is not a field that anyone should be getting into right now. I am actually surprised that anyone is still offering an MT course. It makes me kind of angry that there are still courses available, only because the people who are lured into taking these courses are being led to believe that the field of MT is something it's not, at least not anymore. With the implementation of speech recognition, EHRs, and other technology that has gradually taken over this industry over the last 8-10 years and big offshore players, such as Nuance and M*Modal, swallowing up a majority of the small to medium sized MTSOs over the past several years, there really are not that many MT jobs left out there. What few jobs are out there are very low paying VR editing jobs, and even those require at least 2-4 years of experience. I am fortunate enough to still have a very good full-time MT job, which I am hanging onto for dear life because I know for a fact that if anything were to ever happen to my job, I will never be able to find anything even remotely comparable to it. What I have now is very rare these days. Please, please, please reconsider getting into this field. This industry is on life support. If you need a good, reliable full-time income, you will not find it here. If you need any benefits, HA! You can forget about that entirely. I've had to be on my husband's health and dental insurance for the past 5 or 6 years now since I work as an IC with zero benefits whatsoever. Hopefully, things will eventually start to turn around and the MT world will get back to the way that it once was 10+ years ago, but for right now and for the foreseeable future, I strongly urge you to not waste your time and money on this course that will get you virtually nowhere when it comes to finding a decent job and move on to something else. Many MTs who have been doing this for years, even decades, are desperately trying to find a way out of this field. Don't run into a burning building while others are trying to get out.
