It is not lucrative anymore and there is more wrong with it than right. We were once highly revered in the hospital and then it went downhill when outsourcing to transcription services began, then the major dash to send everything to India to be typed on the cheap, then the trend with voice recognition, then the medical community was forced to use programs that were linked with the government to bill for Medicare, and now making the doctors and their staff edit their own reports using in-house medical records. The demands on the MT now are unreasonable and the pay is embarrassingly low.
Find another line of work.
