I work as a transcriptionist at a hospital that is gradually transitioning to voice recognition from transcription. The reports I’ve looked at that were produced using VR are terrrible with spelling errors, incorrect words due to mistakes in interpretation by the software, use of unaccepted abbreviations, etc., etc. I’ve told my supervisor if I’d produced a document like that, I’d have been booted out the door in a flash. Is all VR that bad? If yes, how does the healthcare industry justify setting such high standards for accuracy while people were transcribing reports, but now accepting what I would call “trash” for documentation?
