VDI is a virtual desktop that will take over your PC but will still run all the programs you now use. It's sort of like a shell that will protect everything inside of it (from security issues, they hope). You'll have to "log into" it, but after that, it will pretty much look like a normal PC desktop with your program icons, etc.
