Thoughts - Dazed and Confused

Posted: Jul 4th, 2017 - 7:40 pm In Reply to: You all need to file your unemployment claim - NOW since there is a waiting week. At least

I don't know if that was a direct quote because you didn't cite your source. I've always worked on site, with a brief time as an MT employee at home. We never got paid to sit and wait during downtime, we had the choice of using PTO or making up the time. If there was a low work/no work situation for an extended period of time, there would have been a reduction in force. I've never seen a receptionist doing nothing while waiting for the phone to ring and I've never seen restaurant help wasting time or sitting idly if they wanted to keep their job. I'm transcription support staff where I work and we are a Nuance client so for us there was more to do than usual. There is no precedent for what happened but I don't know if any employer budgets for paying people during downtime. I think that unemployment is a good idea if it's approved or PTO if that's an option. It's not ideal but at least you'd be paid. You could go to small claims court to recover unpaid wages. The labor laws in your state would apply. NJA and downtime seems pretty common these days, what do you usually do?
