Seeing a trend? Work disappearing? - JustCurious

Posted: Aug 29, 2013

Anyone else notice a trend that you get assigned to a "new" account (new to you and to Nuance) and work slowly builds up to a good amount, then starts to get out of control and behind, then starts to dwindle, then eventually it's such a trickle that you're constantly out of work?  This has now happened to me 3 times, and I'm beginning to wonder what's going on.  I know that staffing increases, when things get behind secondaries get pulled onto an account, and that as speech starts to really recognize what's going on with the doctors, it takes us less time to get the work done. I'm curious how often managers notify secondaries to not work in an account?  Couldn't we have a standard that says, "If an account is less than 16 hours away from being out of TAT, then secondaries are allowed, but if it's within the first 8 hours of being dictated, no secondaries?  I just feel the system is really broken! And I'm on accounts that there is no offshoring, so I know that's not the issues.

they had 90 days after the beginning of a new contract to satisfy the customer, so they kept the account onshore. Then after the specified time period, they offshored all but the hardest dictators. That way they could say at the beginning all their work was being done in the States.

Oh my...are you really this oblivious? - Not being mean here

but I experienced the same thing you have, only with MORE than 3 accounts. You may THINK your accounts are not off shored but they GO offshore once you have trained the speech recognition machine to recognize the words accurately. It takes about 30 to 45 days for a good set of MTs to train it and then WHOOOOOOSH!! Off it goes....

Nuance will not pay you the rate you're getting (poverty at it's highest) when they can get some overseas idiot to look at the report on the same account that YOU worked your butt off on, for 1/4 of the poverty rate they are paying you.

Seriously, it's fact. As much as you don't want to believe it. I didn't want to believe it either but the truth finally SMACKED me on the head and I left. Good luck...but don't believe all they tell you. Nuance talks about of both sides of their mouths.

oops....talks OUT both sides.... sorry. - no message

I'm sure that some accounts get offshored, but I know for a fact that the account I'm currently working on has ZERO offshoring, not even QC/QA can be done offshore. I can't give too much information as to not possibly incriminate myself... but for this one at least, I'm sure.

Now, the others, that really makes sense.

So, you got out... where did you go?

It might be off-shore free for now... - small message

but without giving away *my* identity and my friendship with certain people, if you haven't personally SEEN the contract with the client and it details specifically no off-shoring, it WILL be off shore.

They are using you and others like you that are trying to stick it out, hoping it will get better. It's not going to get better.

I got out of medical transcription altogether. It's not worth my health, my sanity, OR my bank account anymore. Good luck.

What I would tend to see is--sm - anon

an account would get really backed up for whatever reason and then they would allow too many people into it and then when the reason is resolved, those people would stay and I would see that other accounts were getting backed up. The system has been broken for some time, unfortunately. There will always be ebbs and flows but nobody seems to know how to respond to them in a reasonable way, always over-compensating.

A Trend I Am Seeing
Mar 15, 2011

I have noticed over the past few weeks that the majority of transcriptionists wanted ads (not on here) are in-house only.  I saw 11 job postings today looking for such and all were for in-house in different areas - and that's just today!  One of the companies I have a contract with has lost an account in the past month due to their hiring in-house staff instead.  Anyone else notice this? ...

Anybody Notice A Trend?
Jul 19, 2012

I have been noticing a trend lately here on the old board.  Starting midweek, some posters start with the meanness, the insults, the name calling, nastiness and it continues through the weekend, Saturday seeming to be the worst.  Anybody else notice this?  It was quiet yesterday, usual normal venting, but no meanness or sarcasm or insults, and today, wow.  Just sayin' ...

I Have Noticed A Trend Of Being OOW In The
Nov 23, 2012

around 9:00 p.m. Central Time.  Any other MTs running out of work consistently around this time?  I am wondering if the work starts getting routed to India around this time, because India is about 10 hours ahead of the US, so it would be morning time for India.  The work just stops downloading and not even one job trickles in. ...

Is The New Trend To Dock MT Pay For Excessive QA
May 27, 2010

submission?  I'm with a company that does this (amongst other bordering on unethical things)....I'm sure we all know what company.......cough MQ cough........   Anyway, is it just this horrible company that docks pay for QA over 5% and also if you fail an audit?  I really wouldn't have a problem with docking of pay for failed audits IF they were fair, but this company doesn't know the meaning of the word fair.    Just wondering if there are other ...

Is This A Trend Amongst Companies These Days?
Aug 31, 2011

I have been looking for a better job for about 4 months or so.  As of today, I have trained for 3 untenable situations.  I won't name companies because my intent is not to slam a particular company, but to see if others are seeing a trend of companies saying anything (including lying) to an MT to get them to come aboard.  1)  A company where they were to pay hourly, but once I signed on the dotted line, it became production...with hourly at some future date.  As pa ...

DISAPPEARING POSTS

Does anyone know why posts just disappear?  Posted something around midnight, and get up this morning and it's gone.  I was asking about relationship between *******, if any, who owns them.  Does this moderator get paid? Other posts about discrepency between pay of MTs and pay of management who have never transcribed have disappeared, top heavy company comments disappeared... What's up?   ...

Disappearing Work
Oct 29, 2011

I don't know what happened with my message, but I posted it late last night and it was the first one at the top and it has now disappeared.  All I did was ask if anyone experienced work disappearing from their queue all of a sudden.  If any of you have experience this please send me a note.  This work usually is non-VR..it is very upsetting.  Thanks!  If the note was taken off for a certain reason, please let me know.  No names were mentioned, and nothing derog ...

Re: Trend Of Hospitals Starting To Hire MTs Again:
Mar 16, 2011

Another poster below mentioned that her hospital hired its own MTs, stopped outsourcing work.  It seems like most of these jobs are in-house, but I was happy to read that her hospital had all its MTs working at home.  How I wish I could find a job like that!  The few hospitals in my part of the state that do hire on-site MTs are too far away to make commuting an option, especially with the rising gas prices.   I've been looking at hospital employee MT jobs nationwi ...

Dragon An Industry-wide Trend?

Webmedx Work Disappearing
Oct 21, 2010

Ok, so maybe we should have a separate board to discuss what in the world is going on at Webmedx lately! I have noticed some strange things this morning.  There was a bunch of work on one of my accounts (300 minutes or so) very early this morning.  When I started doing the work, I noticed that it was from 3 days ago.  I am wondering why we are sitting for days on end with no work and then getting work that is 3 days old? There was still at least 100 minutes of dictation on t ...

Jobs Disappearing From Queue
Oct 28, 2011

I know this has been mentioned before, but here goes..have any of you ever had jobs disappear from your queue that you had just gotten, especially one that had a decent line count and was non-VR?  This happened to me yesterday.  I had just started a job and all of a sudden poof it was gone!!  I then sent a message to my supervisor, who said she didn't take it, and said maybe it timed out?  I know it did not time out because I had just gotten it.  This is not the fir ...

Line Count Disappearing?
Aug 07, 2014

Been an MT for almost 15 years now, mostly from home. Am starting to see that I can't get the same line counts and am wondering if anyone else sees it. My friend left the same company, started working IC doing straight typing only and she said the same thing because getting the line counts we used to get isn't happening. Used to do 2000+ for a good 8 hours and now still typing as fast as before but struggle to get 1500. Is it the software? Am having no problems understanding dicta ...
