OOW situation - ?? - ss

Posted: Jun 10, 2015

Paycheck Friday will be almost 200 short.  Anyone's TSM giving them any input?  I doubt they are going to say --- QC now in the pool with you, but... We have lost no accounts, TSM says there have been no new hires in our group.  (like I believe everything I am told...)

Tired of this crap. Would love to apply at WalMart but right now all the college kids are hired on.  Maybe after school starts, but in the meantime I am going to have to be a (&*^%*^ and steal work from other shifts in order to make rent.  So sorry coworkers, I know many of us are  in the same boat.  Good luck to us all.

I have been told it is because my primary is - the secondary of others

[ In Reply To ..]
And they have no work too.

So that's great, now I end up shut out of my primary by the hordes of others, and they get to do my primary while I have to do secondaries when there is any work at all.

How stupid is that? I have seen the work of those unfamiliar with my account and it is bad, with lots and lots of blanks, so why do they appear to get preference over the work when there are those of us who know it so well? Gah.

My personal theories are:
1. EMR has been implemented bigtime and a lot of docs are using the old point and click rather than dictating, which Nuance should have anticipated, but it's an easy out for them to say they didn't know how much work would be going to that (yeah right).
2. Nuance wants us all to quit anyway since they hired 3000 MTs in India and even those of us on accounts which don't offshore will get fed up if we continue to starve us of work (and money of course), so they can convince the hospitals to okay the offshoring.

I tried to get partial UE and found out in my state I cannot work more than 3 days a week, and even if I work half an hour that counts as working a day. Also, I have a second job that I took because of the instability of work and FIESA crapping on the pay at Nuance, whereby I am actually working every day of the week. Well, dummy me, that means I don't qualify because you can't work more than 3 days a week or make over $400. So that avenue is out for me which sucks.

The thing is I like the platform and I know the account so well (it took me long years to get there) it is by far my most pleasurable and profitable work (I mean transcription NOT all the other garbage with FIESA or ENRICH, which I ignore both of them), even with the dregs of dictators that are left. So I really don't want to give it up and start all over with a new account, new company, etc.

I wish they would just man up and fire us if that's what they want. Take the consequences and pay out the UE you louses.

Regardless of how we got here (EMR, Nuance wanting us to quit, etc), here we are and it SUCKS! I love my primary as well and for many, many years have very rarely encountered being OOW. The last several months, most of my time is spent on my secondary and tertiary accounts and I'm so resentful. Not towards any MLS working on it because we are all in the same boat, but towards Nuance. It's simply NOT FAIR. Of course, we are all aware of how unfair they are with ANYthing related to the MLS...our pay, our accounts, FIESA, unpaid work, constant pay cuts, always putting more hoops out for us to jump through...just on and on and on. They DON'T CARE about quality, so it does not matter to them that people unfamiliar with accounts are working on them. If they cared about quality, they would have US MLS assigned to ONE, perhaps 2 at the most, accounts, and would pay us what we deserve, and would not focus so much on quantity over quality. None of this revolving door nonsense of people constantly quitting with the subsequent new hires/training, 100s of people in and out of all sorts of accounts. They would have long-term, loyal MLS who know the accounts inside and out and are willing to go the extra mile without even having to be asked. But they DON'T care! They care about their bottom line, which always comes back to the almighty dollar. I sincerely do hope they have to face the consequences of their actions one day.

All secondaries have been pulled off my account-sm - anon

They are only allowed to work if they receive an email stating things are behind, which is pretty rare, now. Those who requested secondary accounts because they were OOW so often were told there were no secondaries available.

I wish they would do that to mine, everyone - and their brother is on it

[ In Reply To ..]
I hate that, especially when you see what a bad job they are doing.

At least QCs will get more work I guess since Nuance has stuck a bunch of newbies on a very tough account instead of letting us experts do the work we have trained years for.

How does that make any sense?
It's a double edged sword--sm - anon

On the one hand, when you have work, it will be work you are familiar with and that is a good thing. On the other hand, when there is no work, you have nowhere else to go. The account to my mind is still overstaffed and we are only allowed to make up work if there are at least 25 reports on the system. If it drops below 25, you have to sign off. It is very tedious. Not to mention, 25 is probably too low of a number as there are often 13 transcriptionists working at once, on the flip side, it is rare that there are 25 reports.
Secondaries on account - Nervous
[ In Reply To ..]
Mine, too! It makes no sense at all. The primaries on my account are those of us who were on-boarded from that account so we are the experts on it. Guess it makes sense to Nuance because the newbies will be slower & earn less. Or because some or all of the newbies are in India!

Totally agree with you - FloridaMT

I was told the same thing last week, that there were secondaries on my acct but I will see a big difference soon and they were going to fix it. Hasn't happened this week as I am sitting here with no work on my primary or my secondary. Was told when I got my secondary there would be a ton of work at this hour of the day. I don't get on MT Stars much but when I do it is because I have NO WORK. Have to take my elderly aunt somewhere this afternoon so I don't have all day to babysit a damn computer.

So tired of all the BS!!!! :(

Probably the jobs go to India overnight, as planned (by Nuance) or - many more went to EHR.

[ In Reply To ..]
...then again, it could be they have moved people to your account because others have disappeared.

You can just play eenie meenie with this one, because any of these are highly likely. Very often it is some combination of them, but in the 5 years I've been acquainted with Nuance, they have never warned any MT about any of them. They figure your mortgage payment is your own problem.

P.S. When cutting back staff to avoid firing someone, they can let you starve for a long time. They have no conscience.

Budget for minimum wage. Anything else is the only bonus you will - ever get from Nuance.

[ In Reply To ..]
Honest, their goal is not to keep you in work, or even in the job. The corporate goal is to get as many hospitals switched to Nuance software, switch as much of the work to EHR as possible and send the rest to India. They could not and will not ever acknowlege this because then there would no possibility of ever fooling any more unsuspecting MTs to sign on. It is why they constantly are hiring and training, hiring and training. They cannot hope to keep anyone longer than about 6 weeks, which is how long it takes most MTs to get it.

What I think - Wilma

I work on a huge account and always had tons of work, haven't worked on a secondary in over a year -- all of sudden volumes dropping like a rock. Pretty sure it is going to EPIC/EMR, whatever you call it because I know for a fact this account/client will not allow offshoring. Also very strange that for several months now very few emails from anybody in management, just the bare essentials. Something's up.

Contract renegotiations take place all the time - and the promise of all the

At an appointment with a new physician yesterday, I was told that the very large teaching hospital in my community with multiple satellite clinics recently brought their dictation back to the United States. He said it was going to "Pakistan" (wonder if he meant India?) and that the quality was unbelievably horrible. He said even nonmedical words were butchered and it was an absolute mess for some time. I wonder if ultimately this is what will happen--facilities realizing it takes too much effort/money to fix the butchered reports and insisting on US-based transcriptionists? We all know how bad the quality is with these reports that are off-shored. How can that continue? I don't understand how off-shoring with the resultant poor quality can continue to go on.
I think they have always depended on their domestic - MLS and QC to balance out

the awful quality offshore work. With so much of it going offshore and so quickly now, I see a lot of lost customers eventually.

No-win Situation
Nov 22, 2010

I've been a transcriptionist for 29 years, the last 14 of which have been working from home.  My husband used to always carry me on his insurance but he lost his job (the plant closed down where he worked) and he has subsequently gone on disability.  He's 62, and is soon to be on Medicare.  I need insurance in a bad way, but I've tried and I just can't maintain 150 lines an hour.  I manage between 125-150.  I think holding us to a quota like ...

Bad, Bad Situation
Dec 23, 2012

I expect to get flamed or slammed here, but I have a question. Is there anyone else on this board that works for the measily 7 cpl for straight typing and if so, how in heck do you survive? I am a pretty fast typist and I use a word expander, but I find it almost impossible to make any kind of a living from this now. The last MTSO I worked for the hospital decided to go with the Q and I did find another MTSO to work for, but for 30% less than what I was making before. I have been an MT for 1 ...

What Do You Do In This Situation?
Sep 16, 2013

Doc is dictating and it makes Zero sense. There are several "sentences" where the words in no way, shape, or form make anything close to a formed thought. And just continues rambling. Do you all leave it word for word? not that I can remotely find a way to make it make sense, just curious and really frustrated. ...

Dec 21, 2011

Very Discouraged About Job Situation.
Jan 26, 2012

I have been in business for 30 years and I have never seen things this bad. I am currently out of work, after having steady work for the last 5 or 6 years. This is new for me and after applying for several companies and no response, I am very discouraged. The companies say they are bogged down with applications and not able to reply to everyone. I feel for all you out there who are out of work now. God help us all. I guess all we can do is pray for a miracle at this point. ...

Coping With NSA Situation

How are you all coping with this NSA crap?   Giving up Friday evenings to try to make up hours is just not always possible.  Sometimes there are too many hours to make up anyway.  Most of my PTO was used up before they decided to let us take unpaid time off.  Second jobs?  Using PTO?  I know I am not alone in this situation, how are you all handling it?   ...

Can Anyone Explain The Situation When You Are OOW

Every week on certain days there is no work so I am having to flex flex flex PTO PTO until all used up, etc. I have read of some of you getting minimum wage due to OOW, can someone tell me how to achieve that? I am so fed up with this. I am pretty much out of PTO and don't want to use it for this anymore. Need Suggestions About Work Situation
Jan 01, 2010

I am an IC with a small MTSO and have been working there since the end of October.  My training was a total of 30 minutes maybe.  This company has no dedicated QA.  There is no company specifics manual.  There are no clear, concise specifics for each account, just samples which it turns out are incorrect or conflicting half the time.  I have to ask questions to the office manager who is not a transcriptionist and passes information on to another MT.  She does not un ...

Why Hasn't IRS Clamped Down On This IC Situation?
Oct 06, 2014

Can't remember exactly, but maybe 20 years or so ago, the IRS focused on MT companies using ICs, did audits on them and some wound up paying bigtime.  As a consequence, the practice of using ICs in the MT industry all but disappeared for awhile, but obviously it's gradually crept back.  I know some like it, but it really isn't a good situation for MTs because it allows companies to escape and/or avoid all kinds of employment laws, regulations and fiscal obligations that ...

This OOW Situation, Is It Just Enterprise Or Other Platforms, Too?

I Have Realized The Truth Of The MT Industry Situation
Jun 06, 2015

I've been coming here for years. For many years it was only the poorly trained MTs who complained about not doing well. Anyone who had good training and good skills, sometimes learned on the job, which isn't practical now, but good skills at any rate, did well. The times have changed. While I used to categorize the complainers as neer-do-wells because they lacked ambition, accuracy, and training, that just isn't the case anymore. The employers have beat MTs down so that they can ...
