Wondering how you all handle a situation. - sm

Posted: Aug 30, 2014

I sent my resume cold to this place and got quite a rude response.  How do you all handle when you get a rude response?  I was courteous in my reply, but it just kinda went all through me that she was so rude.Frown

Ignore it and move on. Maybe her dog just died, putting her - in a rotten mood. Ya never know. nm

Some People Are Just Rude - see msg

Some people are just rude. Maybe she didn't feel your resume was showing a professional quality, in her mind. Maybe she had gotten slammed with MT wannabe's that day who had no clue, and she decided you were one of them.

Hard to know, but usually, unless someone knows you personally, you can't take it personally.

There is no excuse for unprofessionalism. she would not - address a client in that manner, yet she

[ In Reply To ..]
consciously CHOSE to speak to you that way. People in the world need to get a handle on appropriate behavior and save the personal whatever crap for the right time, place, and person, and learn how to filter.

It's a disservice to women in a position of power everywhere and belittles our sector of this game.

Nobody in business cares if the dam* dog died, you speak decently as one human being to another or shut the trap door in my opinion. I've been broken down by that type of abusive person and guess what? They were not worth it.

so - I'd ignore it...and gladly walk away.

I'd send her a response calling her out - sm - Anon

on her rudeness, but that's just me. I'd thank her for her response and tell her I didn't appreciate her unnecessary rudeness. What difference does it make at this point? She doesn't want to hire you, and you wouldn't want to work for her at this point.

What did you find rude in her response? - Wondering

[ In Reply To ..]
What about her response was rude? I think you can share it without naming the company, since you won't be getting a job there, anyway.

It is very easy to see "rudeness" in emails, even if none was intended. If you were expecting a job offer on the spot, a response of "we do not accept unsolicited applications" might sound rude to you.

She might have thought you were unprofessional and inappropriate in the way you sent an unsolicited application, too. She is probably innundated with unsolicited applications, which take time and incur costs to answer. Think about it from her perspective. Many companies would not have replied at all, and you would be complaining about that.

Rude people - Anon

My âsecond momâ who is a retired realtor once told me that when she came across a rude person she would just think to herself âmaybe he/she has hemorrhoids.â That just makes me laugh every time I think of it as hard as I laughed the first time she said it to me. Maybe I just have a twisted sense of humor?

I would want to see what she said before interpreting it as rude. - nm

on communicating with her further. She was supposedly "correcting mistakes" on my resume....to her the spacing was off and I did not answer the questions the ad told people to answer when sending a resume. I told her I sent my resume "cold" and did not even know there was an ad. As for the spacing, I said there must be a glitch because from this end, the spacing was fine. She then started on the details of my resume, which is when I stopped responding to her. I definitely do NOT want to work for someone like that!!!!

Wish you had said that to begin with ... - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Wish you had explained that to begin with! That type of response is not exactly "rude." Rude is correcting the errors in a wedding invitation.

What she did was to help you understand why she could not hire you, explaining what appeared to her to be (1) noncompliance with the application instructions and (2) errors on your resume.

Any time you apply "cold," you need to consider that the company might have an ad and instructions. You should look for it, because applying the way they prefer is better than applying in a way that annoys them.

Hearing about "errors" on your resume should be a learning opportunity for you. It is a wake-up call. If the spacing is off on her end, you did something wrong. Figure out how to do your resume so that it appears normal after you email it. Others do not necessarily use the same software you do.

If she found errors, you can bet others will find them, too. If all you can do is focus on your opinion that she was rude to point them out, your opportunities for employment will be reduced.

I see so many MTs and coders here complaining that no one will hire them, and they probably have no idea that it is their resume or not following instructions.

We all think that what we do is correct. Others might not agree. If you are looking for a job, it pays to do things the way employers want to see them.

What in the world does it matter? I guess I should have known - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
better than to expect kindness and courtesy. YOU ARE RUDE TOO!!
She was giving you feedback - see msg
[ In Reply To ..]
The woman was giving you constructive feedback. I didn't read all the notes here, but if you asked for feedback, you got it. If you didn't, she gave it anyway.

I would not call that rude. In fact, most places won't even tell you what you did incorrectly, they just ignore you. I think she did you a favor, actually.

So, put your big girl pants on, learn from what she said, and carry on! Easier said than done.

Best of luck.
FYI: Being rude to an applicant is NOT - "constructive feedback."
[ In Reply To ..]
You said *I* was rude above ... she said - I was not
[ In Reply To ..]
That had nothing to do with the owner of the company. She was saying that I was offering the feedback you asked for.

I can't see what was so rude in my response, and I suspect you can't say what it is, either.

Whatever. Believe what you want, then. - Have a nice day.

Wondering How You Handle On Pediatric Reports When Sm
Nov 27, 2012

doc refers to mom or mother/dad/grandma, etc.  I was taught that if it is "the mom" you would not capitalize but if you can substitute a name, then it would be capitalized.  The mom denies vomiting, but Mom states the baby..... (would that be correct as far as capitalization goes?)    ...

New MT Who Can't Handle This
Mar 04, 2010

I've been working 2 months. One doctor on my account makes mistakes constantly, says the wrong dates, sends in partial audio files, once sent in a file that was nothing but his side of a cell phone conversation.  He complains constantly because he says these are my mistakes.  Now, for some reason, my QA person has told him she 100% agrees with him.  Also, he thinks I'm the only one working this account, so if someone else makes a mistake I still get yelled at. This is a ...

Question -- Not Sure How To Handle This
Dec 11, 2013

I have been informed by my employer that our company will be losing 70% of its accounts and thus many transcriptionists and employees will be let go.  There is an extremely good chance that I will be among those leaving, as 90% of my accounts are going to be gone.  So, I already have a job interview set up with a local physician in a private office, but since my employer has not let me know whether or not I will be laid off, should I tell my employer that I'm looking for another j ...

How To Handle A Problem Client...
Jan 23, 2013

Okay, so I have a client who is driving me nuts.  I wonder what the general consensus is about how to handle a really pesky issue I'm having with him.  This particular doctor is an older gentleman who wants to do things to look like he's keeping up with the times but doesn't want to change how he does things.  He's also cheap as sin and thinks that because he's a doctor and I'm an MT he's above me in life.  Not kidding. Anyway, the issue I& ...

Anybody Handle Phones In A Doctor's Office?
Jul 29, 2012

So I just got a temp job in a fancy upscale surgical hospital. First in-house job in 8 years, and I really need to convert this job into a permanent deal, but my first attempts on the phone last week I sort of bombed. I know I will make mistakes, it would be great if I could recover from them gracefully. >_<*  If someone was willing to mentor me and get me through this next week I would send you a box of cookies or brownies or wha ...

How Do Handle When A Doctor Makes Up A Word?
Sep 16, 2014

I have a psych doc who always says "the patient was less complaintive today."  I've changed it o "the patient complained less today."  But the doc sends the report back for correction and wants the word "complaintive" which is NOT a word!  I've been giving it to him, but man it drives me crazy. I have an ortho doc who ALWAYS says "all were in agreeance" and I change it to agreement and so far so good, but he is still dictating agreeance.  ...

No-win Situation

I've been a transcriptionist for 29 years, the last 14 of which have been working from home.  My husband used to always carry me on his insurance but he lost his job (the plant closed down where he worked) and he has subsequently gone on disability.  He's 62, and is soon to be on Medicare.  I need insurance in a bad way, but I've tried and I just can't maintain 150 lines an hour.  I manage between 125-150.  I think holding us to a quota like ...

Bad, Bad Situation

I expect to get flamed or slammed here, but I have a question. Is there anyone else on this board that works for the measily 7 cpl for straight typing and if so, how in heck do you survive?
