one out here with nothing most of the time? I filed for partial unemployment but I really don't know what that is going to do for me yet. I am just trying to get through the holidays and then really pound the pavement looking for something else. Right now there are just no jobs in my area. Thank God my husband is working but we do need my pay to make ends meet, so I'm really discouraged what has happened since being bought. Sorry to vent, I just feel really isolated right now and never felt this depressed around the holidays. For those of you on partial unemployment, do you still check throughout your shift for work???? This is just so darn distressing.........

I can't understand this at all. On my acct we have hundreds of jobs piling up and other people don't have any work. I don't know why they just don't give you all the work on this acct to help bring down the volumes.

Q had their peep on our accts before we were completely switched over. During that time, work was very low. Now that we are completey integrated, work is pretty steady. Not the easy work, but doable. I wonder if Q doesnt make the first few months hard in order to weed out some workers, leaving the ones who really want to make it work. Also, I think they want non-primary family wage earners, those of us that dont need to support a family. Then, when work is low, it is not such a problem for anyone. However, I do expect at any time, my work, your work, anybody's work, can disappear overnight. Again, another reason to want to have secondary family wage earners as primary work force.

This was the case for my family. I was not the main wage earner. It took some pressure off, but work is generally up and then down at times.

This is a great job for non-primary workers, but MQ probably has no way of knowing what our status is.

I agree that anyone's job can disappear. It's such a sad feeling knowing that. Wish this profession could last for a long time to come.

No need for Q to know our status. If we decide Q cant supprt - family, our decision to leave. nm

They offered such horrible benefits this last June it would fit your theory. I know I carried the benefits for our family from 2006 until June because my husband's insurance was so much better and much cheaper too. The more the Q can get off the insurance the better for them. I also expect them to be attacking the full time benefits people to knock them down to limited benefits. At minimum wage it probably costs the company more to keep people employed than they actually make the company, especially with these "new" computers they are sending out.

Back when we had regional offices the staff there would denegrate the workers telling us we were just working for bingo money anyway and quit complaining when the work ran out and that this wasn't a real job anyway. The sad thing is I made more as a statuatory employee than I do right now and I never was working for just bingo money or extra spending money. I am sure the mentality in corporate is no different today. That is what happens when you are just a number and the company treats you as expendable and replaceable.

I'm not on MQ platform yet, so I guess that is why??? nm - shortcake

I was told I could not keep checking for work. My supervisor told me to either a. take PTO for the rest of shift. b. take the rest of shift off with no pay. c. Make the time up at THEIR convenience. This is why I am no longer with MQ! I could not sit there and make no money. It was really bad. There is not one good option in any of those 3! I have been in business for 30 years and I have never seen things this bad. I am currently out of work, after having steady work for the last 5 or 6 years. This is new for me and after applying for several companies and no response, I am very discouraged. The companies say they are bogged down with applications and not able to reply to everyone. TSM looking into transferring some of us to other TSMs. We lost a rather large account and have been running into OOW a lot. Hoping I don't get called. I really, really like this TSM and don't want to have to learn another group of accounts. Are there other areas that need to have more people on it or are we going to just push that group into more OOW? Hope they study this carefully. ...

Can't remember exactly, but maybe 20 years or so ago, the IRS focused on MT companies using ICs, did audits on them and some wound up paying bigtime. As a consequence, the practice of using ICs in the MT industry all but disappeared for awhile, but obviously it's gradually crept back.
