Question about working hours - micdel

I am looking for work and was just wondering about how receiving your work and returning it usually works. When I took the MT course, I was under the impression that I would receive a batch of work and then have 12-24 hours to return it, making my work schedule flexible so I could work around my children's school and summer schedules. I assumed that when they're at school I could do my work then, and in the summer when they're home during the day, I could do my work in the evening when my husband was home as long as it was returned before a certain time.

Do any companies work this way? I am interviewing with 2 companies right now that require specific hours, and I am realizing I may have been wrong in choosing this profession.

are assigned hours to work in most cases. As an IC, you can set your own hours, provided the MTSO has work for you at those hours, if they don't you won't have any work. I currently work FT 8 hours during the day (between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.) and currently work for a smaller MTSO as an IC when I want. With the IC work, I have until 6 a.m. the next morning to send it in. With the IC position, I work with it isd convenient for me, 2 to 3 nights a week and usually either Sat. or Sun.

I've had two different employee jobs, and both have had flexible hours. The first one I did have to submit a schedule each week, but it was totally up to me what hours of the day or night I wanted to work (as long as I had minimum number of hours required), and I could change it each week. At my current job, I don't have a schedule and can work absolutely whenever I want to. To keep my full-time status I just have to meet my minimum keystroke requirement, but I could work part-time if I chose to, as well.

One important thing to consider is that when you're starting out you want to be working when there will be people at the other end (office of your company) to answer questions and help with problems. Since it's usually the smaller companies that allow flexibility, they are usually only available during typical "office hours."

You can find flexibility; you just have to keep searching. Although it is getting harder, I think. I was testing the waters and looking around late last year, and got several offers but none offered the flexibility that I have now, so I stayed put and worked on speeding up my production instead.

I'm a recent graduate of MT schooling and was under the same impression. Now that I'm reading the forum, I'm learning a lot about the field and not all that great does it sound. Maybe medical decoding would have been better to take and I know that it would have been a cheaper course

I've got great experience and when I'm scheduled to work, I'm there working. What the hell difference does it make if I only want to be scheduled for 6 hours on four of my weekdays? Would they rather I said I would work 8 hours and actually only work 6 like a lot of people? Ok, I'm not as fast as I used to be and the doctors keep giving names of physicians that are not on their list and are spelled different ways so I take the time to look them up because blanks are not a thing I like to leave on a report. Today we get an email that we can no longer work off the clock which for me is a problem. I noticed when I took a day off without pay, at the end of the pay period, the PTO earned shown in UltriPro was only 4.14 hours instead of 4.62. Does anyone work 12 or 16 hours/week? I see in the policies there are such hours that can be worked. I am wondering how to go about switching.
