how are you getting your hours in? - cj

Posted: Feb 17, 2015

How are you all getting your hours in with the current low volumes? I do not work without being paid so I will NOT sit around 16 hours a day waiting for a report or 2 to come trickling in. Is everyone having this issue. I used to have a couple of exclusives who, since the TSM was let go, are no longer exclusives with no explanation as to why the change. So now I am pretty much at the mercy of what comes in and when, and as I said, I don't give any company my time without compensation for that time. plus it just seems like there is a lot less coming in and more people doing it. Are you getting your hours in and what do you have to do to get there? I am getting $$ desperate!!

I am simply NOT getting my hours in - I despise this

There seems to be no explanation for this other than "bad weather" - this does not really compute for so long.

By some strange fluke, I was on the higher tier and even though less hours I was not making much less despite having to scratch for my hours the last two weeks.

Well, of course this week first day Boom a 3-pointer error so I guess I will be back down in the dregs again. I had hoped to up my hours seeing as how the cph would go down, but there is still very low work.

I am waiting to start a second job (thank goodness) next week and until then am sitting here waiting for the work all hours of the day. I need to make SOME money, so for that pittance I wait here for hours and do an odd job here and there, trying to build up to at least 20 hours.

Absolutely demoralizing and disgusting. Nuance is a racket.

New plan - we are all trying to get more lines in. - ss

Seems that production and low QA percentage are the keys to making bucks. We used to be told when we could come back and make up flex time, or be allowed on Friday afternoon/evenings, but work seems low even then and TSM doesn't give the green flag. From now on, when I saw OOW and flexing I will do exactly that and may very well come back after 8 p.m. to do so just to get in on the shift differential. I hate to infringe on second shift hours, but they probably have to hit 3rd shift and/or 1st shift too. We are all scrambling.

flex time, coming back on later - sal

[ In Reply To ..]
You're right, I work on second shift on Friday nights and I do not appreciate other people coming on and taking work away from me and then I end up running out of work. And no, I do not infringe on 3rd shift; I stay within my shift time. I realize that we all need the lines but there needs to be some way to get them other than taking work away from other shifts.

Suggestions? - Honestly, we are told to flex

[ In Reply To ..]
What the heck else are we going to do? I guess we should all apply for partial unemployment?

I wish Nuance would suggest that, but would they ever give a sucker an even break? No way, cut in on their profits, so they just stay mum on the no work issue, except a few weak emails about trying to adjust scheduling or something.

Please, do you think I want to work outside of my shift? I do not, but I have another part time job and don't think I could even qualify for partial UE, plus we are told to "flex" so flex I do.

Only those who actually do not actually need their paycheck would object to working whenever there is work on there.
Flexing!!! - FloridaMT

I have a mother with Alzheimer's that I take care of daily (lives with us) and I prefer to get my straight 8 hours in (the old days) and be done with my day. Lately, I have been babysitting the computer all day and trying to take care of her too. It's NOT working!!! This lack of work is ridiculous and makes for a very long day. I try not to work on other's shifts, but there is no other way to FLEX your time. When I get on now and there is NO WORK, then it's either someone worked the late shift that wasn't supposed to, they are outsourcing more worktypes, or just plain slow (which I don't believe for a minute). Ugghhhhhh!
I do not want to flex - as my TSM uses PTO
[ In Reply To ..]
and will end up having no hours to take when I want a day or 2 off. If we are all out of work, where is it going? I know for a fact that the hospitals in my area are filled to capacity and keeping them in the hallways so how can they say there is no work!!! I have family who live elsewhere as well as friends I like to do things with but end up having no PTO left - hate them! I would like to take a day off here and there without pay to get to actually have a life but that is not allowed either!
If you run out of work, you don't have to use PTO - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You should have the option to flex. And if not, take partial unemployment. They cannot force you to use your PTO to make up missed hours to due being out of work.

I work from ... - sm

Lately the only way I have been able to get my full hours in is to sit at my desk from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. and just do every single job I can. When I get the OOW signal, I get up, stretch, do something around the house, chores, bathroom break, get a snack, etc. Then I sit back down and press "enter" until a job pops up. It sucks, but for now it's the only way. It's feast of famine around here. You do what you have to.

When I work - Almost gone!

[ In Reply To ..]
I work my shift and if I don't have work, I am done. I am not about to sit at this computer all day and night and I am not about to take away work from others, because even though Nuance isn't fair, that really isn't fair and should not be allowed. With that said, I have applied for partial unemployment. They hired me to work a certain shift and I have not been asked to change it, so that is what I work and partial UE makes up the difference, which isn't much, but better than nothing. I would think they would have to pay you for those hours down w/o work at least minimum wage, but I don't know how they get around it if they have to. Again, this place is a scam and I am just about outta here for good and no I won't be giving notice, just leave. Never ever want to come back. When that happens all of you can have my pittance of work!

too bad - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
We are told to flex our time to when work is available, so I do just that. Believe me, I would love to not have to sit here for hours on end waiting for the few jobs that do come through, but I do what I have to in order to feed my kids and pay the bills. Once I'm finished school and have moved on to bigger and better things, you can gladly have the measly work that I do, but until then I am going to do what I can to get by. I don't care whose shift it cuts into, and frankly I am not sorry for feeling that way. Hate the game.
Too Bad - I agree

Yes it has come to this, every MT for themselves and you know what, I do the same thing. Again, Nuance promised one thing and delivered another and I need a job and I need to work and for now that is what I am doing. I am looking for something else as well and hopefully soon, very soon, I have another job and it is good bye to this horrible company. I wish every MT would get out of here and move on. I can't imagine how I have stayed so long. What really bugs me, I knew I should not take a job with this company, but I did, because you always hope things will be different and they have only gotten worse over the last eight months I have been here. I came from M*Modal and there is absolutely no difference between these two companies; in fact, I think they are in all of this together, trying to run American MTs off, so they can justify India! Let them and I hope they fall flat on their faces.
I TOTALLY AGREE - wtih everything you said!!
[ In Reply To ..]
I hope a majority of us can walk and leave them stranded. Maybe ALL of the managers will have to transcribe and see how much fun it is!!! I did not choose to come to Nuance, our hospital was outsourced, had almost no notice, needed a job immediately so of course agreed to work for them after listening to how wonderful things would be - UGH!

Our TSM doesn't allow... - kd

[ In Reply To ..]
Us to flex our time and make up hours missed without her permission, so if I run OOW during the week, I have to have her approval before making up any time, and since volumes are so low across the board, that very rarely, if ever, happens, so my group is usually unable to make up time/lines at all.

Only 8 Hours...
Dec 08, 2011

Ok, I'm not as fast as I used to be and the doctors keep giving names of physicians that are not on their list and are spelled different ways so I take the time to look them up because blanks are not a thing I like to leave on a report.  Today we get an email that we can no longer work off the clock which for me is a problem.  Do you take the time to look things up like that or what do you do to get past the OCD of trying not to leave a blank?  I feel like MQ is chasing ...

13 Hours To Go
Feb 20, 2014

I have 13 hours left to work at this company and then I am done.  I am typing what I consider good grammar for the ESLs and not worrying about an audit.  My blood pressure has come down.  I am cruising, not swearing and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train.  This company has been wonderful to me for most of my time as an MT.  I am saddened by the changes that have happened in the last few years.  I am going to work in Central Supp ...

Regarding The PTO And 104 Hours Without Pay...

I noticed when I took a day off without pay, at the end of the pay period, the PTO earned shown in UltriPro was only 4.14 hours instead of 4.62. Why Do They Keep Asking For Extra Hours?

2-hour, 2-hours?

IC With Assigned Hours??
