since I have had it this long and after repeated requests for labels and no reply....if I keep the computer, can their proprietary platform, etc be removed and computer used for another transcription job? I am desperately looking for a new job but they all require a personal computer. Thanks!

Stick their computer in a basement or closet or in the garage and get a new one. I wouldn't mess with it. IF, MM figures out you haven't returned it, they come after you to pay for it. This way, you have it to return if they do. Don't trust them on anything. It is probably a piece of junk anyway. All you have to really buy is a hard drive as you have the screen, etc. They aren't that expensive. Use the other stuff, until MM wants them back, which I don't think they do, just the hard drive. What a company!

Trust me, they will want their computer back eventually. I ret'd one when I worked an old platform, started on new computer they sent me when they first came out with DQS and about 1-1/2 years later, I rec'd a letter from a collection agency stating money owed for computer not ret'd. Good thing I kept all the paperwork and who signed for it, plus I was still working for them. I wrote an email to a VP there and he made the guy call me personally and apologize for his mistake. I was so upset. They threatened me actually in this letter. With that said, I'd keep that computer and keep bugging them for return labels every week until you rec them.

I waited forever for them to contact me about it and they never did so I gave my son the computer for his room and he's using it to this day. I just "uninstalled" all the MM programs and cleaned all the work junk off.

Apparently there was a time a while back where they were trying to get back all their old computer equipment from years ago - but there were some computers they didn't want back anymore because of their age. I'm guessing mine fit into that category because it's been years and I haven't heard a word about sending it back.

Keeping bugging them big time. It's not worth getting a letter 3 years down the line threatening you with a huge bill or something.

Once you finally get the labels, follow all the tracking information and print everything, ESPECIALLY THE RECEIVED LABLE that has the MM received day, date, time and name of the person who received it. Keep this document forever. I have mine with all my important papers in an envelope.

Just printing out or keeping the receipt that it was picked up at your house, or that you brought it to UPS, is NOT enough. You need to have the proof that MM received it. Without that, it means zippo.

I would not put anything on an MM computer. Since you have all the peripherals, I would just buy a refurb tower (you can get them cheap) to use.

You do want to send it back so you are not responsible for it. If it gets stolen, sensitive data is on that hard drive--patient data. Trust me on this one, I've taken computer forensic classes--you want to get it out of your home and back to them.

With all the computers they have floating around out there, here is NO WAY they would ever risk a theft, loss, or highjack of computer information with confidential patient information on it. NO WAY. And an employee stupid enough to save patient information on their computer has bigger problems than a return label can ever solve.

hard drive. It is an XP system and should not be used after April 2014 anyway as Microsoft will no longer be supporting XP. It will be completely vulnerable to virus attacks and hackers.

The "papers" I received when I signed on with M*Modal stated we were responsible for returning the computer within 2 weeks after end of employment. Nothing was mentioned about waiting for labels. I received return labels with my initial package and have saved them for that time.

It amazes me that as a company employee, we would not be provided the most important tool we need to work with all set up to company specs, loaded with company s/w. specifically useful in listing, when I used to hit return, it would automatically capitalize the next line, updated to 6.1 and no more auto cap on return. Anyone else have this problem? Does anybody know if there is a keyboard shortcut to get back to the beginning of the audio? With 6.whatever you just went back to the beginning of the text and then did control m to put the audio there and went to the beginning because of the skip markers, now with no skip marker, it only goes back to where the actual report starts, not the beginning of the ADT, if it will go back at all.
