Would anybody recommend M*Modal - nancym

Posted: Nov 14, 2012

Would anybody recommend working for M*Modal?  Right now I work for a hospital/clinic and so many of the doctors have gone to front end speech and doing their own reports, and my job has basically turned into an editor.  I love typing and was just wondering what M*Modal was like and what the benefits are like.  Do you have to take the standard test, etc.  Do they pay well?  My main interest is insurance benefits for myself and my husband.  He goes on Medicare in 3 years and until then he is under my insurance.  Anyway, what's M*Modal like to work for and would it be worth checking out?  Thanks.

After reading any of the posts on here about MModal I'm amazed you have to ask that question. Not trying to be mean or rude, but my nickname should say it all. You WILL end up editing 95% of the time, get no help from IT because they're all in India now, and don't expect any honesty from the company. The only thing that IS decent about MModal is the benefits, but that isn't worth anywhere from 3 to 6 cents a line for editing. Sorry. Go to MTJobs or the job postings here. BTW, Nuance isn't any better.

AND, making 3+cpl for editing, even if you have health - insurance, you cant afford the copayments. nm

Thank you all for your help. Made my decision. And I thought I had it bad where I am. Just found out yesterday at mtg. that we are 6 MT's too many in our dept and "we" have to make some decisions. None of the options they talked about were good for employees. Guess it's time to find another line of work till I can retire in 3 years. Bummer. Thank you all. Don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fire.

How many blanks - anon

At Nuance its 15% and I have seen that it is 5% at MModal???

I DO NOT RECOMMEND MMODAL - prissy

At MModal, most of the work now is voice recognition, so you will be doing very little typing. The pay is very poor, the employees are treated like crap, and, in my opinion, the job is not worth the stress and demands they make on your life and well-being. To sum it up, working for them is HELL ON EARTH.

You are right, not worth the stress - bbbmt

It's horrible to have to fear going to work because they "pick" and "nitpick" on you for everything. You are never told that you did a good job. You can do 50 superb perfect reports, but that doesn't matter. If 1 report has an error, you will hear about it and be treated like you are stupid.

nancym, if you can stay where you are, - I would do it.

If your job has basically turned into an editor and you are still making good money, STAY THERE. MModal is 95% editing at 4 cpl and they can take 3 cpl away from you if you send in too many blanks to QA. It's a no win situation (except for corporate/stockholders). Also, more and more of our work is being off-shored to India. I'd stay put if I could. HTH

could not agree more - stay put

stay there as long as you can. If they decide to outsource, you'll end up working for a service then - don't rush it.

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Why I Would NOT Recommend ATSI
Feb 19, 2010

Hello all! I am new to this forum and would just like to share my thoughts with you as I have read through some of your postings about different MT companies out there, like "Should I work here?" So, as nicely as I can say it, in a matter of my opinion:  My Top Ten Reasons why I would NOT recommend ATSI: 1. The pay. Straight CPL no matter if it's days, nights, weekends, holidays. 2. No raises, incentives, or bonuses. 3. NOT employee status...EVER...even after 90 days, you will ...
