Random thought here - I was just wondering - whodat

Posted: Jan 15, 2014

if our supervisors have our best interest in mind.   I know they are all scared for their jobs too, but couldn't they go to bat for us and let the "higher ups" know that having us in one giant pool typing so many accounts is not going to help in keeping jobs in TAT.   Yesterday, I got a different hospital for the first 2 hours of my shift - no back-to-back jobs from the same facility until well into my shift.   I was playing catch up all day and all night to keep my production up.   How is this better?   While I tried to be careful and skim over the Client Profiles for each new account that came up, I probably missed something in my quest to keep my lines at 150 per hour.   I try to stay positive with this job, but it is getting harder and harder.

my last TSM said this... - gave up

[ In Reply To ..]
The work is the same no matter the facility. She was adamant that a "good" transcriptionist can do any job that comes up. I know for a fact she was never a transcriptionist, and never even supervised before this job.

I honestly believe they dont give a flying flip what we have to go through.

My last TSM left almost a year ago because she said she could sm - broke

no longer watch and enforce the abuse being dished out to the MTs. She told me things would be getting worse and I believe she was correct. She was fair and honest, and I miss her.

Exactly, loved my last TSM - but

She never transcribed. However, would never make the statement yours did either..This new "thing" they started in the North BOB is ticking me off to no end. I don't care that the stuff is out of turn. I care that I now have about 5 different accounts with several different facilities within each account that are all not necessarily done the same. I care that I no longer get my primaries, which are a pain in the butt, but I know them and NOW there are letters going out that they are being done wrong..Give me my PRIMARIES back...I'm job hunting btw, sick of this crap

You will never get your primaries back, sorry - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
The fact that you had "primaries" is actually very strange to me. 99.9% of us haven't had the luxury of "primaries" in YEARS - how you managed to hold on to yours so long is beyond me. I'm equally as amazed that you only have *5* accounts to work on. I would give my left arm to only have 5 accounts. I would be very surprised if you didn't see your account base double ... triple ... or more ... this year.

THIS is the new business model of MModal. This is your new reality. Welcome to the world that the rest of us have lived in for years.
How selfish and condescending can you possibly - anon

be and totally misinformed to boot. I have 1 primary acct and 2 back-ups, no I don't work for MM but I did. My particular employer works with primarys and secondaries to all employees and it works great! So, before you welcome someone in with all of your hostility and wishing all a horrible time, why don't you check yourself and you just might find that you are the one with the problem, not your employer. It is nice to know that if I stay in a company that I totally hate and bash every channce I get, I can come work at MM with you and wallow in no shortage of misery. Lovely...

That would be tantamount to saying that any SM - Kitty

"good" doctor or nurse can cure any disease or condition that comes up. If we are so "good" ... why aren't we paid as such, she might be asked. Let's hear her smart-alecky response to that.

What a croc! She knows it, we know it ... and she knows that we know it.

Good Grief - see msg pls

[ In Reply To ..]
I agree that a top-notch MT should be able to do any speciality or accent that comes our way, but to think we have to know all the client profiles when we've hardly ever done them is just stupid.

And so I quit MT 1-1/2 years ago. I come on this board specifically to affirm my decision.

Thats 5 new accounts - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
That have a ton of sub accounts, none of which are done the same, so its more like 20 to 30? Not to mention manual ADT entry and manual CC entry on most.. On top of what used to be my primary accounts which in their own right were brutal..

You've been very, very spoiled - MME

[ In Reply To ..]
I too am amazed. I'm not sure how long you've been with M*Modal but you've been very, very sheltered.
LOL I had a great TSM so maybe your right - sm

Actually in the grand scheme of things I would say I'm a short timer (this time worked here before and came back), less than 3 yrs. BUT I am paying now :-( and job hunting, I won't be treated like garbage, been in this field for too many years for that..

do they expect us to take??

Beg to differ, but any "top-notch" MT should not SM - SamMT

necessarily be expected/required to do any specialty or Alvin-The-Chipmunk, Gunga-Din or mush-mouth piece of dung they care to throw at us.

You say you are out of MT, but you are an expert on what should/should not be required of an ace MT, while we are working for pennies, less & less as time goes by.

Why do you think they advertise for MTs experienced in certain specialties, i.e., oncology, radiology, ophthalmology, etc....Huh? Because the average "top-notch" MT may not have the required experience or knowledge in that particular area. Got it??

Not being facetious... but what ever gave you SM - Kitty

the impression that supervisors, QAs, etc. ever had our best interests at heart? From my experience, especially during the last 10 years or so that the MT biz has gone down the toilet ... they need to make THEMSELVES look good to those above them ... to with anyone under them. You're right, it's THEIR jobs, their bank balance, their mortgage they worry about... did you ever think any different??

When you become part of management, even a - TSM, you sell your soul to the Devil.

They couldn't PAY me enough money to be a TSM - anon

They literally work around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If that phone rings at 2:00 in the morning, you must pick it up and speak to the client. If you are in the middle of dinner with your family and that phone rings, you must take the call. You have to be available for MTs, your QC team partner, the client, and the crushing pressure from the upper management. You have to answer for EVERYTHING and you are held accountable for EVERYTHING in your region.

I can't even think of a salary or pay structure that would make it worth handing my entire life over to that position.

Know how you feel - about LPH

[ In Reply To ..]
A few days ago my QC sent us a email showing the LPH of everyone on our team because she thought we "might be interested". There were several who had LPHs in the 400s, 500s and even 600s. I can't even fathom how that is possible, knowing the kind of reports and dictators that I get every day. That report certainly did nothing to encourage or help me and I don't know what she was trying to accomplish by sending it out.

I do both medical and general transcription. I know there is much discussion about MTs standing a bit above GTs in the Invisible Hierarchy of Transcription because of the responsibility involved and amount of training required. I get that. I also know that general transcription is hard work and requires a lot of knowledge about a lot of things in order to do it well. What I JUST got, though, is the fact that a good general transcriptionist (one who can think and knows how to research unfamiliar ...

Something I Just Thought About And Am Wondering
Oct 05, 2013

I was just on my FB page and get a lot of "political type" posts.  I saw one regarding Catholic priests supposedly not being able to say Mass tomorrow at military installations because they are considered "government subcontractors" and could either be fined or jailed if they violate this order.  I am wondering about the MTs who are contracted for VA accounts, because to my way of thinking, the MTSO and possibly the MT, could face the same consequences. As an aside, I also saw a post ...

Wondering Of Anyone Has Thought Of/heard Of This Position? TIA!
Feb 12, 2014

Im wondering if an MT with 23 yrs exp would ever be hired to dictate in-house FOR the physicians or input on an EMR FOR physicians?  Im not even sure that is a position or if it would be legal?  Anyone do this?  If so, what would you charge?  ...

Random IRS Question
Feb 05, 2011

I've been shopping accountants and have been told 2 different things regarding being an IC and filing with deductions. One told me that in CA a party cannot reside in an apartment and file as/deduct business expenses.  Another one never mentioned this and gave me an estimate for preparation based on filing as an IC and a business return. Does anyone know which of these 2 are correct?  I'm rather confused as how both can be licensed and yet give totally separate guidelines ...

Some Random Thoughts
Mar 22, 2013

that has now become "working" for MModal.  since I have no work today at the start of my shift, thought I would share.   New 99% accuracy requirement:  This is the pay cut everyone was fearing, just with a different name.  More accuracy means more time spent going over reports for "errors" hence less pay.  Of course, no pay raises for increased accuracy requirements and no mention of adjusted line count requirements.  It wouldn't surprise me if 100% accuracy w ...

Why Is It, If Audits Are Really Random, That
Mar 07, 2015

ones who seem to be audited?  Not the clear-speaking ones EVER.  Usually ESL but not always, as not all are bad.  Not all English-speaking ones are good, either.  As you all know. With that in mind, knowing exactly who the difficult dictators are, and the fact that I never have post audits by them, I am finding it impossible to believe that these audits are "random."  I have about half and half decent dictators and horrible/mumbling idiots, and it's always the latt ...

Where To View Random Audits????
Dec 10, 2014

I know how to check Fiesa and reports I sent for blanks, etc. Now they will be doing these random audits every single week and we have until Friday to get in any questions. Where will these show up? Right in Fiesa? I'm curious b/c these wont be ones I am sending over myself for blanks so where do they show up at for us to see what is being marked off, if anything??Thanks. ...

Is Anybody Working And Getting Random Jobs From Different Accounts?
Jan 10, 2010

Just venting a little.  While I do appreciate being able to work and not getting NJAk, I am a little frustrated getting every other job from 2 or 3 new and different acounts.  Do they really expect me to make line count like that?  I know there is a better way to distribute and get the work done within TAT.  I mean really.... sigh. Looks like the forbidden "national pools" coming back.  If my regular accounts have no work, then why oh why cant that just give me ONE that ...

I Love Their "random" Audits.
Jan 17, 2014

Okay, I'm very familiar with all 10 of my accounts and get them all equally and have no problem with them...except one, which I rarely get and has the worst dictators I've ever heard and is the only one that I struggle with.  Guess which one they audit 98% of the time?  I get audited 2 or 3 times a month for some reason (never failing any yet, however, close), and looking back at my results for the past 6 months or so, nearly all are from the same joke of a hospital.  Al ...

QA "random" Review
Sep 30, 2013

I work with a company who does "random" reviews periodically.  I understand this is normal practice and I concur with this policy.  However, I really am stunned to find that the individual performing these randum reviews, is taking files out of QA. I have never heard of such practice and I have been in this career field for well over 30 years. I am just curious if others have run into this practice.  My own personal thought is that if an MT sends a file to QA for a "second listen" ...

Wmx - Another Thought On This
Sep 02, 2010

I think this was a very large account and they could have divided the MTs who had this as their primary and put them on various other accounts.  Yes, this would have overstaffed those accounts and more MTs would be getting NJA as we all scrambled for what work there was.  Also, this way WMX would not be putting out unemployement for anyone and soon most of us would not have benefits because we couldn't keep our line counts up with NJA all the time.  All in all, looks like the ...

Just Thought I'd Ask..
Mar 28, 2011

I'm just wondering what is with companies not calling you after you have passed a test and said they will? I don't understand it. Yes,  I realize that they may have several people, but is it too much to ask for a phone call to do an interview or something? I am looking for a job and when I do pass tests and get excited that I actually did and no one contacts me like they said they would, it really bothers me. ...

I Thought I Was The Only One
May 13, 2011

I just realized that no one cares about the quality of medical records anymore.  I have had to go to VR and I am now making anywhere between 4 and 12 dollars/hour.  I guess people care more about the quality of their hamburgers than they do peoples' healthcare. I have started to just send them through.  I don't even really listen to the work.  I look at it and change any major spelling errors, but other than that, what the VR says is what they get.  The fu ...

Just Had A Thought...
Mar 17, 2012

Could it be that the MModal and Nuance are buying all of these smaller, better MTSOs because they want to limit our employment options?  If MModal (the Q) and Nuance are the monopolizing companies, and an MT who works for them just had all she/he could take, where could she/he go?   Just a thought....   ...

Thought Everybody Would Like To See This
May 01, 2012

This phrase was added at the end of an advertisement for employment.  Obviously it was in-house, but found it.... well.... rude, I guess.  Although I understand their position and their experiences, to include something like this in an advertisement would certainly send me running elsewhere.  Any opinions???   one last comment, and from prior experiences we have to make this statement: if you have had mutiple jobs a year, have gaps in time in your resume without explana ...

Just Thought I Would Let You All Know...

that Alliance Medical Transcription in Houston TX is hiring for acute care account with a large teaching hospital with mostly VR but some straight typing and mostly OP notes.  Good luck to those who apply. just passing this on because I have very little experience with OP notes and this was not a good fit for me.  No "ulterior motives" for me.  Just trying to help those in need.  ...

What if we asked for stocks in the company as a benefit?  I know Wal-Mart does this for their employees, because my SIL, who has worked for Wal-Mart for a long time, drew from her stock and traveled a distance and paid for a  birthday party for her 3-year-old grandson and went shopping at our local mall and bought herself a wonderful new set of pots and pans (that new kind that is green and made out of ceramic) and just lived it up more than she could have done otherwise.  Si ...

Have you all ever thought of letting your own doctor/s know that you will no longer have a physician who sends his or her work to a company to be done overseas and that you will now demand that your medical records be done in the US or you will seek medical attention elsewhere?  Maybe start making a lot of noise on the doctor/hospital level? An ASR Thought

I am making stupid, idiotic mistakes that I never made before. Yes I know I am older than when I started this mess of a job. But, I think with this ASR garbage, first being so wrong all the time, then trying to remember what keystrokes to use, blah blah it actually kind of puts you in a "trance." Its like you see but you don't see. Does that make sense or maybe I am just going insane? ...

Wondering About Pay
Dec 14, 2009

I work as an MT in a very rural area, so the pay is VERY good for me.  We are a one income household since my husband got laid off and I easily pay the mortgage, car payments, all of the bills, etc.  I was wondering, if a person lives in a much more expensive area, like California where a person's mortgage would easily be four times mine, do they get more money per line to compensate for that, or is it the same? ...
