Please no flaming but wondering why they wouldn't just lay off people who are - getting medical benefits

Posted: Apr 04, 2013

If it is all about saving money, it seems to me that people who get medical insurance costs MM money. Strange laying off part timers as they don't get medical insurance or any benefits.  Not saying I want anyone laid off but just think it is strange as they are so cheap.

I am a former MTSO and I agree with you totally. Benefits cost just a bundle. I'm surely not an MBA, but I cannot figure out their business strategy.

It was explained previously - that they were laying off because

they were making more work available for the full time MTs. Nobody said anything about cutting costs. It makes sense to me, although I do not agree with their way of doing things. It's just these postings have gotten way off course and other things are being said and fed into it.

Mmodal part timer layoffs - jen

I also was a part timer with them for 9 years and out of the blue bam we are eliminated. When I asked to go full time low and behold those are all filled. Due to lack of volumes lately I would say they have been training them to take our place for some time. My only feeling is that we should have been forewarned as well as the lawsuit thats pending is not our fault so why penalize us and not the big wigs? I truly loved my job and cried.

Losing your job is very frightening. So many emotions, you don't know how to feel or what to think. You spend a lot of time trying to understand it and find a reason. I know how you feel, I've seen this up close and personal. My husband worked at the same place for 32 years, he only had 5 sick days in all that time. He always worked extra when he was asked, he had one of the best work ethics I've ever seen, and suddenly he was laid off, his position was no longer needed. He was devastated. At his age he was not sure if he would be able to find another job. He worked very hard at finding another job, and he did find one in four months. It was an even better job, better pay and benefits. They looked at his experience and longevity and hired him the day of the interview. That was over 5 years ago. I'm telling you this personal story so you know, and that others will know there is hope for a bright future.

The truth is, this could happen to any one of us at any time for any reason, or no reason. We may never see the logic in it. The old days when corporations valued their employees, and upper management only made 10% more than the work force, have long since gone. Take a couple weeks to let all those emotions play out and then push on. Chances are you will find something even better, this may be more of an opportunity than a loss.

I think a better option would be to lay off some of these supers who don't - sm

do anything anyway. We have way too many layers of supers, middle management, upper management, etc. When we're so top-heavy, why lay off the ones actually producing the revenue rather than cutting the dead weight.

FLAMING AND SHOUTING AT NUANCE

There is not enough work yet you advertise for positions while dangling a $2000 sign-on bonus carrot. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH WORK for those already employed! Everyone and their dog is on my primary account because their primary account has no work. I am punished every single day because I run out of work. There are other accounts that need work among my TSM's pool. Put the newbies there, NOT ON MY PRIMARY. LET ME DO MY JOB IN A REGULAR 8-HOUR DAY INSTEAD OF 12+ HOURS EVERY FREAKING DAY OF TH ...

You Wouldn't Believe What I Have To Do Where I Work
Aug 16, 2010

I've been employed by an orthopedic surgery practice for about 6 years now. I think it was after the first year, I started having to compose office notes from the paperwork the patient filled out (all of their history), plus the templates the provider filled out.  I hated it and protested to my office manager. Then gave up, then about a year later I asked her to talk to the doctor about his hand writing to no avail. One doctor never made me read his writing, he would fill out the templ ...

Wouldn't It Be Great
Mar 16, 2012

wouldn't it be really great if there was some sort of email address for us to contact our hospitals directly...without the M*Modal propaganda?  We could say "Dear Dr. ___, I understand you are really busy and dictation is low on your priority list, but if you could take an extra moment and clearly articulate your dictation, the reports would come back to you with less questions and/or errors."   I know...I know...quit dreaming.  It is really sunny and warm outside my window ...

they would put people on their strength worktypes and specialities instead of put us on what we are the weakest at and then complain b/c they are constantly out of TAT.  Just amazing to me how we were asked what our strengths and weaknesses were and after that email, I was put on my weakest out of everything.  Perhaps I am the only one to realize that if you were given the work that you are strongest at, you would be able to go through it faster, but not with Nuance, they seem to thin ...

To have the doctor, RN, resident, or whomever is doing the dicatation to do the demos rather than the MLS slaves?  I mean, since they are getting paid a living wage (unlike the MLS slaves) and they already have all the pertinent info, like business entity, location, signing, etc, why aren't THEY selecting the copy requests, etc. from their own little drop-down lists, instead of having the hapless MLS slaves searching all over creation for a doctor they misspelled or mispronounced. &nbs ...

Wouldn't It Make Sense

When you have a report that is with a difficult dictator and within the first few lines you have a blank you know you are going to send to QA - if the report is long and there are a few other blanks you might have to leave but might be able to get if you spent time researching, wouldn't it be better to not even waste time researching those blanks since all the lines are being counted toward your 5% submission rate - it would seem that it would be best to do the rest of the report as quickly ...

Wondering About Pay
Dec 14, 2009

I work as an MT in a very rural area, so the pay is VERY good for me.  We are a one income household since my husband got laid off and I easily pay the mortgage, car payments, all of the bills, etc.  I was wondering, if a person lives in a much more expensive area, like California where a person's mortgage would easily be four times mine, do they get more money per line to compensate for that, or is it the same? ...
