Partial UE - let's try this again - grits

Posted: Jan 24, 2013

I just got off the phone with our local UE office, and the rep informed me that there's no such thing as partial UE in my state (Louisiana). She advised me to ask you all how you answered certain questions when filing your claims, such as "what was your last work date" and "when were you separated from your employer," etc. In other words, did you have to file a regular UE claim, or does your state provide a separate application process for partial UE? I'd hate to file a claim just to have it kicked back, or worse, to actually draw benefits only to have them decide later I don't qualify and have to pay it back. I apologize if all this has been asked and answered before. I called myself looking, but I may have missed it.

you just apply for unemployment - the regular claim

You let them know if you worked full time or not, and what you earned, and they do the rest. The partial bit just means that you were able to get some hours in (partial work week). There is not a separate form.

Thank you - grits

That helps. :)

That is exactly - how I did

I went on line and all the questions that were asked were just like if I was laid off so I called. I gave the lady all of the information and she filed the form out for me over the phone. It was too confusing for me to do online by myself. I had a waiting week (which I do not get paid for) and now every 2 weeks I go online and input how much money I made and they ask a couple of general questions that are easy to answer, but if I work 38, but have made enough to reach my max benefit rate then I do not file for that week because I made too much for that week to qualify.

Very helpful - I appreciate it - grits

I've tangled with UE before, and I'm scared of putting a foot wrong. The woman I spoke with sounded as though she was wasn't sure how to help walk me through it, so I'll call the other office when I get ready to file.

Grits, I was just looking on the Louisiana - UE website - wow!

From the FAQ=
"6.What are the minimum and maximum amounts of UI benefits?
The minimum weekly benefit amount of UI in Louisiana is $10.00. The maximum is currently $247. Your weekly benefit amount could be anywhere in this range, depending upon the total amount of wages paid to you during your base period. The total amount of unemployment insurance benefits payable to you would be equal to 26 times your weekly benefit amount."

What possible help could $10 be? I thought my state's UE of $255/week sucked
Welcome to my world - grits

When we've had to file in the past, DH and I fell in the $225 range. The cost of living is low in this state, but you see why. The wages absolutely suck.

There's a lot to love about Louisiana, but you have to be either dedicated or delusional to overlook its flaws. :(

Unfortunately, I have no idea - MModal Livestock/FH

but I'm sad to hear that you have to do that. I hope you find a way to get it. I know dealing with any government bureaucracy is a pain.

I'm assuming this has to do with M*Modal's eternal NJA status? A transcription company that doesn't have transcription. Great business model.

Right?! - grits

There's something surreal about having to ask your company to provide you with the work you signed on to do, during the hours you negotiated to do it. They seem to have an attitude like they're doing us a really inconvenient favor in making sure we have reports to do.

A strange company indeed - MModal Livestock

The worst part is my accounts are backed up half the time. We're gonna end up losing them one of these days. They keep making us do overtime. Not that I'm complaining about the overtime, just that there are people all over this company with no work and people all over this company with way too much work. It seems like a no-brainer, so does that mean upper management has less than no brain? Can a person have negative brain mass? I'm going to write Stephen Hawking and ask.

I've had so many bizarre experiences with this company. Four years into the job they made me drive 200 miles to find out whether I was a legal citizen. It took them 2 seconds once I got there to look at my ID (while acting annoyed that I showed up) and then I was on my way again. The best part is that it would have been perfectly legal for them to let me use a notary of the public in my hometown, but they refused. Then a week later I got a postcard that welcomed me to the MedQuist family. After so many years of verbal abuse and terrible accounts, a postcard disregarding my career sort of stung. It would be like getting home from fighting in World War II and you get a card that says "Welcome to the Army."
Don't I know you from somewhere? ;) - grits

But seriously, this place puts the fun in dysfunctional. I've put up quietly with their BS because it's a decent job for around here and I am so not a people person, but at least they never asked me to prove my citizenship, for Pete's sake

Partial Dictations
Jun 22, 2014

I think all dictations at Nuance should be partial dictation worktype. Wtih "partial dictations, you don't have to do as much checking of demographics, figuring out date of service and filling that in, etc., and not having to pend and leave comments so mcuh. I notice I'm about 75 lines faster an hour when it's partial dictations because there's less outside-the-report activity to be done. This is extra activity we dont' even get paid for. After all, MTs are only paid ...

Has Anyone Applied For Partial Unemployment
Jul 17, 2010

Has anyone applied for partial unemployment and if so, were you able to get it?  All I ever get is NJA and I'll be damned if I am going to use all my PTO or sit by this computer 24/7.  I do not get up and do things as I should - I sit by this computer and constantly log into  DQS.  I must be nuts but MQ made me this way.  Thanks for any info!! ...

Is It Really Possible To Qualify For Partial Unemployment?
Oct 10, 2010

By year's end, I will have made about half of what I normally make working the same number of FT hours.  I've read suggestions on here to apply for partial UI, which could probably save my behind - I'm not sure how much longer I can pay the rent and not sure where me and kids would go.  However, is it really possible to qualify for that considering the nature of our work, paid by production?  Could'nt it be argued (wrongly so!!) that we just slacked off and did ...

Question On Partial Lines
Jun 05, 2012

Have a couple of questions for those of you who have been with Transcend/Nuance.   I had a very short report the other day and actually counted each character and space. It was only 2 sentences long, so wasn't too much to count, but the total characters divided by 65 was equal to 10.8 lines. My first question is whether there is pay for partial lines? I looked at my matrix after submitting the report and got credit for 10 lines, but there is no decimal and partial lines listed. I ...

Filing For Partial Unemployment
Mar 22, 2013

Any advice?  I was shy over 8 hours last week due to OOW (towards end of pay period, so no way to catch it up) and over 10 hours this week now (my last scheduled day was yesterday, and I'll be checking in to see if I can catch up some today on my day off, which won't be 10 hours, of course).   Is there generally a certain number of hours, rate of pay, etc., that one has to be shy of actual scheduled in order to qualify?  I understand it may be different from state to st ...

Is It Possible To Collect Partial Unemployment?
Jan 07, 2014

I've heard this before, but was unable to find anything about it ... I live in Georgia.  I went through all my PTO over the holidays because of NJA, and now it's the beginning of the week and I'm already 4 hours down.  What good does it do to "work" on holidays, when there's never any work?  I guess they just can't stand paying that holiday pay ... I'm so depressed right now and my first check of 2014 that I will get on Friday is going to be horrible. ...

Epic - Partial Dictation Feature
May 11, 2011

I have a client that will be implementing an Epic EMR.  Epic has indicated to them that the providers can dictate a "partial dictation" during a note they are entering.  Epic offers them the option to have the transcriptionist transcribe that note directly into Epic.  So far, I have only been able to find MTSOs and in-house MTs who use the partial dictation feature, but have kept their old software platform (i.e., eScription, Nuance, etc) and the provider dictates into that s ...

Partial Unemployment In New York State?
Sep 06, 2012

Weekly Claim Questions For Partial UE
Jul 18, 2013

I just got off the phone with my state's UE office.  I was told that if I work more than 32 hours in a week, I will not receive partial UE for that week.  One of the questions asked when filing for a weekly claim by phone is:   During the week, did you miss work that was scheduled for you?  Answer "YES" if you did not work all of the hours that were available for you with your current employer.   If I "release" myself from work due to NJA, am I missing "work that ...
