Mentoring - who's done it? - anon

Scary?  Intimidating?  Useful?

All I can say is that if they make it mandatory, I'm outta here. - Leave me alone and let me work

My understanding is that it is mandatory and eventually - everyone will do it - nm

Enough with the micromanaging already. Certainly upper management could make better use of their time than to count how many times I clicked my mouse! I make my line counts, my work is of good quality, just leave me alone and let me do my job!

I guess I'm really feeling anxiety about it and was curious ... - anon

Hi everyone:

I have gone through the mentoring process. I had a lot of anxiety about it as I thought it would be a "smack my hand with a ruler" kind of thing. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The girl who did the mentoring could not have been nicer. The first session was just basically to introduce herself and go over how the production information is calculated. She gave me some helpful websites for referencing information, etc. With all of this information. The following session was to watch how I worked to see if there were technical issues with my computer, etc. At no point did I feel like Big Brother was watching me or she was there to make me miserable or afraid.

That being said, I am not a "suit" or anyone from management. I am a Tier 3 MT and was truthfully contemplating leaving because of the lack of money I was making. Just in the short time since my mentoring session, I have noticed a big jump in my production, and I am thankful that I went through the mentoring program.

I hope that alleviates some anxiety for you.

Oh wow, that helps a LOT! Thank you for your post! - anon

I've been really feeling that I've been contacted to mentor because I suck. :(

I had (mandatory twice-a-month) mentoring with another company straight from being hired and actually really loved it because it taught me key combinations that would help my hands stay on the keyboard and not on my mouse, but also other time management tips. The girl there was also super nice and helpful and was always very cheerful. There was nothing at ALL intimidating about it and I actually saw my production skyrocket with each session. Every single MT/MME with that company was required to do the half-hour sessions twice a month and you had to schedule your first session within a week of being hired.

Since this is new to MModal, and I was contacted to participate it has a "different feel" to it, almost like a correction method or something to help "bring me up to speed". I'm a long, long LONG time employee and have never been told anything was wrong with my production or quality (I'm an MME) but I know that things with MM are not always the friendly, helpful things they seem.

Thanks again for your post - it means a lot and does make me feel a lot better.

My experience was good. - dnr

The lady was very nice and seemed outwardly not out to get anyone. I was already doing all the stuff that supposedly speeds you up. The MQ computer was the problem. She said she would tell my CCM that was the problem with my production, so I figure I was one of the first group of mentoring and probably targetted because of my low production.

Got another MM computer which was as fast as it should be, but broke after 1-1/2 days. Got a new computer that should have been fast but the operating system had been downgraded to XP by someone and was slow as molasses again, and support was not interested in solving that as "DQS works with XP and 7". Support truly does not comprehend what is important to MTs when it comes to production. Support had apparently not even looked at the computer before they sent it out as I found the recovery disks buried in under the keyboard, and they don't send out computers with the recovery disks. Fortunately I know just enough and was able to solve the problem by running the recovery disk and setting up the computer. My production improved 200% with this. I let the mentor know about this, although it seems that she thinks the jump in production is due to the educating me about the short cuts, etc (which I was already doing).

Very apparently the mentor is still monitoring my production as I got a nice email complimenting me on my improvment (although it was all an MM computer problem). What really turned me off and irritated me was the email a few weeks later noting my production had gone down. Not wanting to let that go (!), I let her know the decrease was due to having to send my CCM about various jobs and I needed to do it with the job still open (with dead time) because I needed information from the job, and also that I was spending time filing Remedy tickets for stupid ASR errors like spelling, etc.

My experience was good/okay - Sunflower

I went through the mentoring and my mentor was very, very nice.

The only thing that bugged me was that my production is high and my quality is high, so why bug me? Why put unnecessary stress on me because my inactive time is not up to par. I care about each report that goes out and I will do my best to make sure it is a high quality report, even if that means looking up info on Google, going into report repository and old reports.

I really do not care about my inactive time at all...period.

AMEN. If our quality is good & we meet quota, leave us alone!!! - nm

i'm assuming you are talking about the Boost mentoring. its no big deal really. the person told me it will be mandatory for everyone. pretty useless to me but the person was very nice, understanding of family stuff and inactivity that we can't control, etc. one or two useful things but overall i think it was a waste of time. we are paid for it though, so what do i care.

btw...just read the other posts, completely agree! my experience was the same as theirs. - jss

Will MMEs have to do it as well? I wouldn't think so since we spend - so much time researching. NM

I suppose MTs dont spent time researching? - Only MMEs do?

[ In Reply To ..]
I spend so much time researching that I make minimum wage now.... how do you spend more time than I do?
MMEs who do a lot of QA work - What I meant....
[ In Reply To ..]
spend the majority of the time searching for physician names, medicines, etc., rather than straight typing/editing & producing line counts, so it doesn't seem like they would want to watch us research for blanks when the point is to up your line count production.

Yes, MMEs are taking part in the mentoring program also - MME - nm

Mentoring Programs
Apr 21, 2011

Hi.  I finished MT school at Oak Horizons in November/December of 2010.  I also did an intership for a company and after I finished they told me I needed to get a job in a small clinic so I would have someone working with me.  In my small town there is not any small clinics or any surrounding towns that I know of.  I wanted to ask all of you about any Mentoring Programs?  The only one I have looked into was AIM and some of the feed back I have read was good for the mento ...

Mentoring - This Sucks!
Apr 24, 2012

I guess we are all going to get mentored at one point or another as I just received an email to set me up for it.  I make over the lph and get all my required hours in each week so I don't see why I am being mentored at all.  Like I said, I guess we have no choice and will all be mentored sooner or later. This sucks! ...

Mentoring From Boost
Sep 28, 2012

Well, it finally happened.  I got the e-mail from Boost saying I had been chosen to be mentored.  I don't understand.  I ALWAYS get my line count and more.  I always type my hours.  I have had some good numbers on the Boost reports, one 5, one 3.5, but I have also gotten two 1s, as I do not speed the report up during the report, and I don't use the arrow keys to go to the beginning of the paragraph and such.  Can someone please tell me how the Boost mentor ...

The Mentoring Program
Oct 03, 2014

Happy TGIF, Everyone! After receiving my second corrective action last week, it was strongly recommended by my HDSM that I sign up for the MP with my PC....and she even went so far as to threatened to submit a notation to HR if I didn't do the MP. I've spoken with some of the members in my primary group who told me it was a waste of time and didn't make a difference in their performance. I already knew this, which was why I wasn't gung ho about doing the MP. And after gett ...

I am a recent grad and would like to start working part time however, I believe i need more experience in transcribing actual reports. Thoughts On The Mentoring To Get You To Use Shortcuts

My Mentoring Phone Call Is Tomorrow
May 06, 2012

My mentoring phone call is tomorrow. Does everyone get a mentor as well? What do they talk about? I have a list of questions for her but they're mainly about complaints. I'm even going to ask if I can't do my job good enough, then they should do it themselves or even send it back to India. I want to know if this mentoring program is the first step in my being fired. I'm very concerned about my job and maybe I shouldn't ask these questions, but the way they treat us ...

The Dangers Of So-Called Free Mentoring Programs
Mar 07, 2010

Every year there are a few people who start free or for-charge mentoring programs. Stay away from them if they have you transcribing work that they are critiquing. Mentoring is advising, supporting, encouraging, but not having you do their transcription for them for free. Because of privacy issues, you also would be well advised not to send any of your transcription to a 3rd party for help. There are all sorts of red flags. Just be careful. Over the years many of these free programs have turned ...

Hi, I'm a former Acute Care Transcriptionist who has 12 years hospital, 2 years clinical experience including not cherry-picking and found out years later that their most experienced transcriptionist refused to do an account I was put on due to the ESL ratio.  They did try to make me feel like I was the one who was stoopid, etc..... aside from that....I retired from this profession to home-school my children full-time, be a wife and mother...hubby is very high maintenance.... "Welcome To Mentoring."
