M-Modal buy out, ex-Spheris, old timers with MQ - we

Posted: Aug 18, 2011

Anyone here from M-modal?  All of you, M-modals, ex-Spheris, and MQ people -- watch your backs!!!! Watch out for yourselves only!  MQ is about the most dishonest MT company out there.  Every deal they have made has been crooked in some way shape or form.  Google it for gosh shake.  With every merger, they cut the best people (usually the ones making the most $$ with the most experience) so they can send more over to Cbay, naturally...since they own 97% of the company.  Sadly, since they have most of the market, some of the other companies watch what they do and try to mimic - severely unfortunate!!  They will not hesitate in cutting positions without notice whatsoever....just so you know.  There are honest companies out there, just take the time to look, research, and just apply to them...mtjobs for example.  I found one and I am out of this sweat shop soon!!  Good luck to all ex-MQers!!!!

I agree - take note - x-MQ

This person is right! Google Medquist law as an example. All the people up on mgmt level make mega huge bucks and they pay the people who actually make THEM a paycheck squat. I've been gone for about a year and a half now, cut with the Spheris deal. I've talked with some of the old MQ staff still working and they are working harder than ever every day, day in and day out, trying to keep quality in focus when in reality it is a loosing battle if the MTs can't send reports to QA without a pay penalty for leaving QA markers. All of them are scared to death. They have no choice but to guess on things. Once the health care industry catches on to this stupid idea that came from someone who probably doesn't even know what the home keys are on a keyboard are, it will come to light. MTs/MMEs: If suddenly your account is gone...guess what...it's because they went over to India/Cbay. That is the whole goal with Cbay owning 97% of MQ. Seriously, that is no way to live, believe me, the stress and thoughts of what "could" happen are unreal -- who wants to work under those circumstances??!! As a witness for those of you scared, there is light on the other side of the tunnel....it is so funny too, if you know anyone who used to work here, there is a MAJOR relief feeling once you get out from under the Q. You can be the best person in the world, do everything they want you to do, follow the polices to a T and WHAMO -- they love to just stab people in the belly with the surprise of guess what... you didn't do anything wrong, and you have never ever had a bad performance review, but with the merger deal, we have to let people go and unfortunately, you are one... Seriously....It's time the Q got a taste of their own medicine. Let the "suits" transcribe and edit their own ASR reports (you know they won't though, they'll send them on over to India to do it for 1/2 of our minimum wage, which is the whole problem and why those "suits" aren't worried -- what they don't quite get is they will NEVER have the quality that we in the US have -- they just don't get the lingo/verbiage and they never will. They can't; English grammar doesn't apply to their languange. Does it make me mad... you can guess on that one!! The health care industry will figure it out eventually too, there is no doubt. It will come to a head eventually and those who are honest will prevail -- unfortunately, the Q will be far from that "honest" position for sure! They made it, they can sleep in it.

I KNEW it! - S&M

I knew we weren't all just disgruntled for no reason...this company is bad!! I left too about 2 yrs ao and there are better options if people would just take the time to look. The thing MQ does is they try to keep people so busy that they don't have time to check.

We have been told by an manager who just quite that it is MQ mission by the end of the year to get rid of all tier 1 and 2 MTS, anyone who strays off schedule, anyone who sends too many reports to QC, and anyone with an average or below line count. Some of these I can see, but they dumped most of us into tier 1 and 2 when they bought our company (Spheris). They cut our pay and upped the accuracy rate from 98.6 to 99.2 all the while making the SR engine we use a mess. it doesn't recognize a thing. GRRRRR
This has been the ulterior motive of all MTSOs - ever since AHDI slithered onto the scene. n/m

I wondered about SR-sm - anon

I was very lucky in the beginning. I've only been an MT 6 years. I got on with OSi in the beginning, which has since been bought out by some other company. Back when I worked for OSi, it was a decent company and I liked working for them. Then, I started as an IC working for the best small transcription company EVER. They are now going out of business due to VR/SR (speech "wreck" as I like to call it). This MTSO trained me on everything. I did every work type you can think of and worked on several accounts. Pay was extremely good, I even received a....raise!, which is unheard of in MT land. Now there is no work, e-mail after e-mail saying no work. So, I went to MQ. Thought I'd try it out because maybe it would work for me. I was hired at a decent straight transcription rate and what I thought was a better than average SR rate. When I started, I had an awesome account and voice "wreck" was actually really good. I worked quickly and barely had to fix anything. 1 month later, the account went "global" (offshore). I now have many accounts and am switched back and forth from one to another but not consistently enough to be able to get used to any of the accounts. WTH!? And voice wreck is continually worse every day, less and less it recognizes. I have to fix almost every other word. I HATE my job, thank you MQ!
Heard the same - pushing people to move up a tier or 2-3 or be pushed out - SM

Heard the same from people even higher than mgrs here and other companies too. They will lose customers without a doubt, unfortuntely, not until the patients start getting rejected insurance claims because of poor/incorrect dictation, that the docs never read! What comes around goes around. Unfortunately, by then a lot of us will already be pushed to find something else. Besides the MTs losing money, these are the people who will suffer. And everyone wonders why insurance rates are so high and malpractice insurance is so high. Talk to India my friend!! DUH!!

The posts on this are right. We will probably be out of jobs soon, right around Christmas time. This company will have a new name and we have done nothing but help them to get rid of us. MAKES ME SICK!!!

http://ahdilounge.blogspot.com/2011/08/medquists-new-ceo-re-branding-on.html

The M*Modal acquisition was "not a roll-up deal" but rather a "strategic merger."

he new combined CBay/MedQuist/Spheris/M*Modal entity will be more than just a services company or a technology provider but rather a "solutions company" offering "collaborative intelligence" to its customers.

The new company's three major emphases will be on helping physicians adopt electronic health records; continuing to streamline the narrative capture/editing/coding/billing workflow; and producing "more information, more intelligence" on the back end to support better clinical decisions.

About half of MedQuist/CBay's transcription work is being done overseas, including 28 sites in India, and Davenport expects the trend toward offshore outsourcing to continue.

I knew there was a reason not to bother learning - coding or billing. This proves it!

Spheris Now M*Modal?
Aug 24, 2012

Sorry if this is common knowledge. I have not worked for Spheris since 2005 and had only worked for them for about one year. I just received a letter from the Social Security Admin. saying I had "retirement funds" due. I was surprised to get this as I would have thought any money owed would have been paid out by now. I called the Spheris number I had and it now says M*Modal so I assume that company has merged with them? I left a message so hopefully someone calls me back. It is not a large amoun ...

Need Some Help From Old Timers
Apr 24, 2011

Need some of you “old timers” to help settle a difference of opinion.  We can’t seem to find any accurate information using the web. I was having a discussion with another MT friend about timelines in regards to when SR/VR started and when they started off-shoring.   I say everything happened within the last 5 years.  My friend thinks she started using SR over 5 years ago at the MTSO she works for.   Anyone have any accurate info? 1.  Year Speech Re ...

Any Old Timers Out There?
Oct 04, 2013

Just this morning I was talking to my husband about "the good old days" in the medical transcription world.  I remember when we would type a report, I mean "straight" type a report (no VR), send it off to be signed by the physician and then it was placed on the medical record.  Back then, it was the physician's responsibility to make sure that all the information on the report was correct before he signed it.  Anyone remember those days?  Technology and new ways of doing ...

Transcend - Part Timers
Dec 20, 2011

I am starting to wonder if Transcend has more part time workers than full time, excluding the TLs.  It just seems like it is such a fight to get enough work to be full time.  It also seems like it saves them in the long run to not provide insurance and now gift cards at Christmas if they have more part timers, just my feeling. ...
