Any suggestions to turn NJA time into money? - Time is money.

Does anyone know of anything worthwhile (i.e., money-making) to do while sitting around waiting for the next job to load? My time is worth more than watching the clock tick away waiting for MQ to throw me a job here and there. What irks me is how I have to make that wasted time up in my own free time, and not only that, but what time suits THEM best, i.e., Friday or Saturday nights. The gaul. Anyway, I was wondering how you all spend that idle time being more fruitful. I was thinking of (seriously) stringing beads, working on a novel, any paid Internet projects? Thanks for your input. I'm not trying to be funny here. Just need to try to get a handle on the stress of NJA. It's taking a toll on my blood pressure.

I don't mean to be wise. Just wondering if there's anything really decent out there anymore as far as work-at-home MT jobs go?

Over the years that I have been doing this, I have watched this industry practically come to a screeching halt.

Working for MQ has been the last straw from me.

Soon, you all will at least have my work because I am leaving the Q and MT all together. I've had enough and after the terrible treatment by this company, I'm done.

I'm going to go work around people again and be a productive member of society instead of feeling isolated like a hermit in my hut.

Called me a fricken typist. Well guess what buddy who posted below, I have an AA degree as a medical transcriptionist in college and I refuse to work as a typist next to nil. NEWFLASH!!! I hardly type anymore, but edit reports!

Out of this sweat job!!!! I refuse to sit behind a sewing machine and get paid like I was in the Great Depression and be treated that way.

Obviously medical institutions do not care about standards any more. I can't wait to see how all of this electronic health record stuff is going to play out. All employees can not be replaced by machines, but they won't learn this until we already have been.

It's hard to even know right now where the jobs of the future will be developing, since I don't think anybody has a clue how it is going to work.

I think I want to work for the government writing the standards. :)

a better job doesn't exist with any MTSO. I'm trying to hold out for an MT job directly with a hospital or clinic, either on-site or at-home. I'm also looking at possibilities in other fields. The big problem is, I would really like to put my 30+ years of MT experience to use in a new job, because it's all I really know. Anything else, and I'd be back at Square One employability-wise, with likely a whole lotta school ahead of me. I really don't have the time or money to go that route anymore. Missed the boat.

You can do stuff like take pizza orders from your house or transcribe SMS or MMS texts and there are other at home, online jobs. I am able to supplement my income with them. I get paid through paypal and I checked them out with the BBB and researched before I signed up. They are 100% legit. Give it a try!

I have a second job in the evening and when I get NJA, I sign onto my other job and do extra work. I would not be able to make it with just a job with MQ anymore.

My friend recently started working for google posting jobs on-line. Pays like transcribing and the is ALWAYS work. Also I started to fill out surveys, but only do the free ones. It takes a bit to get started, but it is better than sitting here doing nothing. There is also an on-line question/answer service called Cha-Cha. My 19yo works between college classes and working only 1-2 hours a day 5 days a week is bringing home over $200 every other week!

Hi, I recently spoke to someone from Turn Around Time Transcription. I had found their ad on mtjobs.com. Does anyone have any knowledge of this company? They use the Medrite XL platform and the owner told me all the transcriptionists said it was an easy platform to work on, but then I looked it up and MTs were complaining about the line counts being so low. Is anyone else fighting back against all the time we are expected to give away? Every time they ask us to sit waiting for work to come in for 15 minutes, they are only paying minimum wage for your state. I am doing some thinking about what is important to me. I have been looking at jobs on Indeed.com and found 2 coding jobs that I might qualify for down the line, but they both involve a 1-1/2 hour commute via public transportation each way. So that's 3 hours a day getting there and back. After working at home more than 10 years, that idea seems very daunting to me. Honestly, this dictation I'm doing is like the turn signal syndrome. What I mean by that is people who don't bother to use their turn signals when they turn (I know, I'm anal. I even use mine in parking lots). There's a reason they're on the car and it's against the law not to use them when indicated. No replies to Oncall for 6 -7 cpl. Look down a few ads and see the pathetic one put on by Lee Perfect. She cannot get anyone to type and says "sad but true." Lockdown for us started last week and sometimes I can punch in earlier than 15 minutes and jobs keep downloading after my shift and other days I get the error message to contact my CCM. Also last week there were 200+ shifts posted on the swap board to pick up and this week around 25 a day. We also go from NJA to many late jobs in the matter of a day with no consistency.
