I totally just emailed my team lead and put in my notice... - anonymouse

Posted: Feb 28, 2011

it's just not working out for me there.  I would rather have an IC position.  I have an interview with another company.  If I get it good, if not I will go substitute teach at the school...would prob make more money.

This fall I will be going back to college to get a BS in biology.  I will be out of this disappointing career as soon as I can.  What a waste of 2 years of my time to study medical transcription and the last 4 years trying to make money doing it.

What company? - Curious

I am ready to quit the Q.

You're wise to get out, but what are you going to do with a degree in Biology? Teach? That field is a disaster, too. I am a former teacher and do some subbing now in addition to my IC work. I have 2 degrees and 7 years teaching experience, and I could sub everyday but the pay is so little that now with the high price of gas, I will only take assignments close to where I live. Even then, I barely get minimum wage. Then you're stuck with kids who don't listen because you're just a sub, teachers who leave lousy lesson plans and forget to tell you have their schedule. The parents run the schools nowadays and principals and school boards are strictly about parent pleasing.

I hoped to get a job being a pharmaceutical sales rep or something else with a pharm company or work in a research lab somewhere, etc. I could also get a teaching license and teach biology if needed. You can also use a biology degree for forensic science in a forensic lab, which I find very interesting. There are several things to do with it. I would just have to see what the job outlooks are like for positions doing various things.

interesting thought for those in michigan..... - intrigued

on the topic of biology - Michigan has the medical marijuana law - other states that do have ways of measuring levels of THC, etc., etc. my dad is a "patient" and his friend is a retired pharmacy rep who opened a dispensary here....the man is making HUGE money and staying within the law....i often wonder if I would have the cajones to jump in that arena....now with a bio degree i think i'd really have to consider it! just food for thought ;9)

I know for a fact that Histology Technologist, Cytotechnologist or Medical Technologit at our hospital make at least 23 - 26 dollars per hour.

All your possibilities sound terrific, Anonymous. - You know, MT, was never a "career."

[ In Reply To ..]
It's a job. A clerical job, basically the same work day after day, year after year. Careers have movement, aren't stagnant. They grow, and the person with them. The few people who start a career from this position do so by moving into the management field and would have done better to start there if a career were what was wanted.

I mention that not for you, because you realize this was never for you now, but for others wanting a "career" and making the mistake of considering MT. I moved from a career to this job because that was what I wanted--a step down to a simpler calmer life.

In any case, I do envy you all the great possibilities opening up to you now. Best wishes!

Have to agree... - MT not career but job...

and pretty much a dead end one at that!

Wish I could now...HOPEFULLY SOON - Tina

Decided to see what it takes to get my real estate license...suprisingly easy and not too expensive. Going to go ahead and take the plunge in that arena even though home sales are down. In 2 years I'll be able to take the broker's course and exam and start my own agency. I can't wait! Also, thinking of getting licensed to be a massage therapist/reflexologist except that takes about a year to complete. Hell, I've thrown away 15 years of my life for my so-called MT career, what's one more!

You didn't throw it away, Tina. Economists expect - people to have to change

[ In Reply To ..]
lines of work on average at least 5 times in their lives as change requires. Maybe if we had a sitcom showing people going through this, it'd sink in and become more than a quickly forgotten item in USA Today. It's so big and devastating when it comes as a surprise that we tend to think it's only us. On the bright side, you could have spent the past two years unemployed, like millions of others, instead of just not doing as well as you expected.

Anyway, hope you enjoy either one or both. If medical (growing field!), make sure it's a license that Medicare will pay for treatments under. :)

Region Team Lead
Nov 07, 2009

Just read the MQ Central news about the pilot program for a new position called Region Team Lead (RTL). I'm already confused enough, I don't need a new acronym.  They said the CTL would now be doing 100% QA and transcription. It didn't really specify who will be doing PTO requests, etc. (unless I overlooked it) I'm glad I already requested Christmas off and it was granted! Thanks CTL! I'll miss you! ...

How Do You Deal With A Very Rude Team Lead? I Work For Transcend And
Oct 08, 2011

have never been treated so badly at any company.  My team lead sends out the nastiest e-mails I have ever received in my life.  When I talked to my ROM (who is no longer there), she said I just needed to realize that this person had a very strong military background and that is "just how she is".  I have been around a lot of military and most of them were taught to be tactful and at least half way nice.  You never know what is going to set this one off or how she will react t ...

Is This Normal? I Work For Transcend And On A New Platform For Me. I Asked A Team Lead
Feb 02, 2010

for some help yesterday and got nothing but garbled answers.  I asked how to do something and got part of an answer but then told she did not remember how to do the rest of the steps.   I can understand not knowing how to do something, but at least refer me to someone who does know how.  This person was definitely not nice and thought it was very funny that I was having so much trouble with the system.   The attitude was the worst I have ever encountered.  Thes ...

I'm beyond thrilled!  I have a good lead on a non-MT job.  I have been promised multiple things and they have never happened.  No raise in many years.  Someone tell me again, what are the benefits of being an IC when you have to do the work of so many other people PLUS transcribe?  It's ridiculous.  Years ago, when I didn't have to do the work of others plus mine, I made SO much more money.  ...
