How are you paid for PTO? Just found out about mine - Curious and Ticked off

Posted: Dec 11, 2009

I always thought that companies paid for PTO based on an average of your last 3-6 months production.

I just found out that my company pays by the hour!  This means my PTO for a week will be half of what a I normally make?

Have you ever heard of this?  Is this the norm?

It's the new thing... - ChickenLover

I've been seeing that now with the newer job listings. PTO used to be done just the way you described it...now they have found yet another way to cut expenses. Pretty sweet, huh? (sarcasm off)

I was paid exactly like this years ago, not a new way - L

Even when I had incentive and base pay, taking time off was always just the hourly rate.

Paid this way too, and never could afford to take time off. - Tired of Typin

According to the company I work for, I get paid PTO depending on the number of hours I work in the pay period averaged over the last 12 months. It took me a while to understand the mechanism in place, but now keep track of it as well just in case of an error. The formula could change when I did not work 40 hours, i.e., holiday, sick.

Then at the new year, it starts over and each pay period work hours are added and divided by the number of pay periods to come up with average day's pay. I don't know if I am explaining it correctly, but I like I said I now keep track of it and it seems to coincide with theirs. Don't know if other places have another formula or what.

I don't know how other companies do it but Medquist pays PTO based on something called your "benefit rate." I still have yet to understand how they do it and I have worked there for over 4 years. It is calculated using some formula of how many average lines you typed in the past 6 months divided by something else, etc. The jist of it is that if you are not a very large production person you don't get paid much per hour when on PTO. When I first started working there they paid a flat $10 per hour for PTO, training pay, etc. But, that came to end a couple of years ago.

MQ pays by the hours. The benefit is determined by your - mt

production over the preceeding 6 months. The best and worst weeks are thrown out, and the remaining weeks are averaged to determine your benefit rate. This is done twice a year.

Just one more way to rip off their employees. (nm) - Zircon

The company I work for pays PL as an hourly rate based on the minimum production they require. I routinely transcribe 30% more than the minimum, so when I take paid leave I get screwed. Like you, it's always been my experience that paid leave is based on what your average production is for 3 months or 6 months, whatever, but the pay is commensurate with how much you normally produce for your employer. Yet another way for MTSOs to cheat us.

Which Verbatim Is It? Your's, Mine Or Their's?

I Do Everyone Else's Records And Mine, Too
Feb 26, 2014

Just got a call from my dr's medical records wanting to know the name of the dr she wants my records sent to (she and I looked it up on the computer during my visit and I saw her write the dr's name down) and my dr's address, which I'm sure was on her request, her name and address.  One of the last times I saw her, they put someone else's vital signs on my records (height, weight, BP and BMI).  Sheesh. ...

Canaries In The Mine
Nov 07, 2014

This discussion actually began on October 3, 2014. To search for it, use the little blue search function and type in You missed something and the date 2014-10-04. I think it bears repeating again for all who might insist that people griping" here about Nuance are just conspiracy theorists. I prefer to think of them as canaries in the mine, warning folks away from Nuance. It is NOT just Nuance, as someone pointed out, but they are the most insidious it seems, about monitoring this board and disco ...

Check Your Pay, Payroll Screwed Up On Mine

Was wondering why my check so little, even though I did have 8 hours of work availability.  Apparently they only paid me for two 15 minute shifts instead of my benefit rate times four hours each shift. If you are in a state that pays you for half of your shift for work availability, make sure to carefully check your pay for this pay period.  ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
