First Day on the Job Yesterday..... - tstone

and I made a whopping $7/hour. They gave me a physician that, obviously, no one wants. Lots of work on the system from him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I still have private clients and can make $7 in about 10 minutes. It's infuriating, but I need the extra $$....if that's what you can call it. I also got some crazy QA corrections. One says one thing and another person says another. Not sure what to do about that. In my opinion, consistency within a company is imperative.

I have two accounts and the other account is apparently wonderful, but there's no work from them right now. I must give this lots of thought. Still keeping other options open, i.e. job listings and even something other than MT. Going to give it another day here today and see if things pick up. Who knows......maybe I'll get up to $10/hour today.

Hang in there! The first few days on any job are tough. I remember an account where nearly all the dictators were ESLs that nobody wanted. Over time, I got really got at them and when the company merged with another one, I was making $35/hour. You will be fine. Patience wins all things.

investing the rest of a workweek to show them you're someone they want to keep, then have a serious talk?

I've had a couple of good jobs that seemed to start out by trying to run me off, or at least act as if I had to prove myself onto the team...or something. Another supervisor started out by refusing to give me any work at all and not responding to messages until I informed the company I'd return their equipment if not assigned work that day. Not the most sensible approach, of course, but for some reason seems to not be uncommon.

I know it will get better. It's just very difficult in the beginning. I've been doing this for 25 years and so it's hard to go from being very much appreciated by the physicians I still work for to just being some anonymous person on the other end of a voice file.

I do like the company and so far they have treated me very well. Loved the trainer, love my mentor, and so far so good. It's just the lack of funds to start off with that gives me pause. I plan on sticking it out and hope to get my hourly rate up soon.

Again, thank you for the encouraging words. I can't tell you how much it means to me. I feel very fortunate to have work even though it might not be particularly lucrative right now.

NEMT? Stick it out and it will be worth it in the long run. They are a reliable company and nice to work for. I worked for them in the past. I also found their QA were inconsistent, but I think that's true with most of the services. Sounds like you're not doing that bad for a first day with new learning new account specifics and new dictators, etc.

Just curious if MQ is going to try to ignore yesterday's DocQscribe crash. My CCM is on vacation so I just put an alert on my timecard. The RTL told me that it was not an alert and deleted my note. So downtime or not? I guess I will just be short this week because I am not making up hours or taking PTO when their stupid system crashes and MQ refuses to own up to it. When I started out MT years back I transcribed for the local hospital ER docs group. I loved it, but moved on when work dwindled down. A friend works for the group of hospitals in management so I asked who was doing the ER transcription now, I wanted to apply. I was told the hospitals in this area have started using scribes and are slowly doing away with MTs altogether. The exact same thing my new GP doc told me a year ago. I was a patient in a local ER yesterday and had the nicest British physician. I was directly across from central and was able to hear this physician dictate. Clear, concise, perfect speed, a dream to transcribe. The downside is the hospital uses Epic only - no editing by human hands (and ears) at all. We were out of TAT once last week and since then if there are more than 2 (well maybe I am exaggerating here) jobs in the pools they open up OT. Everyone needs to make money, so of course many of us come in and work. Understandable. On the 3 horrible reports that I had to submit to QA yesterday because of the 3-blank rule, thus losing 3 cpl probably, QA had no more luck filling in the blanks than I and sent them through with 5-10 blanks. I got an e-mail encouraging me to test on-line for MQ and submit my resume and they would be anxiously awaiting it and monitoring their system for it to come through so that they could promptly contact me about a position. I do have a lot of experience in all work types, lots of ESL experience, and my QA reviews have been high, so I know I would be an asset.
