Trying to decide, SoftScript or Amphion - Have offers from both

Posted: Nov 05, 2010

Both part-time, both let me choose my schedule; however, Amphion is primarily editing and SoftScript is straight transcription at more than double the editing pay offered by Amphion.

Anyone have any experience working for both or is anyone currently employed by either and can offer some insight in how they are to work for?

Thanks for any info, good, bad or indifferent!

what did you decide? - IDMT

I'm in a similar situation. I'm curious what your choice was. What do you think of Amphion?

I havent decided yet (see message) - Have offers from both

[ In Reply To ..]
I have until Monday to decide.

I know both companies get their fair share of mixed reviews on these boards, but to be honest I've been impressed with both of them so far in my contacts with the recruiters, etc. They both seem very well organized and the recruiters were both very friendly and professional. One account (Amphion) is doing editing on eScription (a program I love using) and is about 40-45% of the pay offered for a straight transcription acute care account at SoftScript on their word-based platform. Both offer some benefits for part-timers, and both let me pick the hours I wanted to work. Because I picked basically third-shift hours for SoftScript, it bumped up my rate up by 1.5-2 cpl on the weekends.

I am so torn and afraid I'll accept the wrong position. I'd hate to take the SS offer simply because it pays more, because I'm afraid once I start I'll find there are audio problems or very difficult ESLs where my productivity will be slower and thus I won't really make any more money than I would with the Amphion editing offer. On the other hand, I hate to take the Amphion offer simply because I'm comfortable with the platform as when it comes to editing I know the dictators can make or break an account (and the backend cleanup if it's not properly monitored).

Both positions sound great, and thus far both have been extremely friendly and professional. I already have a FT position and am just looking to supplement my income (I'm the sole provider in my household). If I didn't already have my FT position, I'd jump on both of these, one to work part-time and one to work full-time.

Can I ask which 2 companies you're deciding between and how you're going about making your decision? It's great to know I'm not the only person in this situation who is having difficulty deciding which way to go, lol!

my choice is between... - see message

Medquist and Amphion.

I'm not working right now, so any money is good to me. I know alot of people bash Medquist here. I wish I could hear from people at both companies to hear who's happy, who's not, and why.

I'm willing to be trained on any platform.
See message - Friend works for Q
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know anyone personally who works for Amphion and I frequently read the MQ board. A former supervisor and good friend of mine has worked for the Q for about 6 years now. When her hospital outsourced to MQ, they made the stipulation that their MTs be kept on staff and some sort of caveat regarding kept on their same accounts (apparently the hospital system wanted to save money but wasn't willing to entirely throw their MTs under the MQ bus). Anyway, she has worked there for about 6 years now and says that aside from personal issues causing her to lose her benefits (failed to meet her minimum line count for the specified number of consecutive pay periods), she has noticed no difference in anything about her account. Same dictators (except for the usual resident rotations and staff changes), all transcription and no editing, same pay, etc. She said the only differnce she noted was that the paychecks were from MQ instead of the hospital.

Reading the MQ boards, I realize her case must be a large exception to the usual MQ rules, but occasionally I've seen other posters on the MQ board who claim to have plenty of work and are quite happy with MQ as an employer.

I think like with any other employer, it depends largely on the account on which you are placed and who your team leader is on how happy one is at any MTSO.

Like the old expression says one man's (MT's) meat is another man's (MT's) poison, lol!

Good luck whichever way you decide to go.
Thank you for the info - IDMT

That was great insight that you gave to me. We lost our account to TransTech, and I've been out of work for a month now. I was very nervous about MedQuist, after reading everything I've read here. I'm not happy with the fact that they offshore. But the info you sent is good info.

I currently work for Amphion - Will you be using Triton?

[ In Reply To ..]
I think they told me Triton is similar to eScription or maybe it was Editscript. I don't know, I haven't used either of those platforms before. I currently use Triton and it's not horrible, but not great either. I do a combo of straight typing and editing and don't make a great wage right now, but it is getting better. I have worked there 2 months on the 13th and am just now making (barely) over the $10/hr that they guarantee for the first 2 months.

A couple of questions... - Have offers from both

[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't mind my asking, how is your account, aside from the platform? Have you had any problems with the quality of the audio or the difficulty of the dictators? How is the QA staff there? Do you find them helpful and friendly? I really got a good vibe from the recruiter with whom I've been dealing and am hoping she's a reflection on the entire company.

Thanks for answering the above questions, if you're able to.

Amphion - anon

I have a friend who is job hunting and she just recently told me Amphion does not pay for spaces. I would check into that before I accepted a job anywhere. It makes a huge difference.

SoftScript - kat

[ In Reply To ..]
I started working with SoftScript about 2 weeks ago and I am off QA now. They do have a lot of ESL but I have really have had no problem with them. They don't really seem to be too bad. I really like everyone so far and have had no problems with their platform and actually it is very easy to use. They do pay for spaces. Good luck in your decision.

Help Me Decide
Mar 29, 2011

Hope someone can help me.  I have worked for a couple of MTSO for around 10 years.  Will be switching to VR soon.  I am starting to have problems forcing myself to work at least 2 straight hours without interrupting myself either out of boredom or because someone interrupted me (I work from home).  I can never seem to get over 200 lines per hour and the benefits are not great.  I applied to a hospital in house (about 35 minutes away).  The only shift they had was a ...

Can't Decide Between MA Or LPN

I am going to do it - get out of MTing for good and really, really want to work in patient care.  I love the thought of being an LPN, but I'm seeing so many jobs for medical assistants.  It seems to me as though MAs are replacing LPNs.  A hospital near me has 13 openings for medical assistants and only one opening for an LPN.  Which way to go is the best? Confused! ...

How Do You Decide What Is Okay To Abbreviate?
Mar 27, 2011

I know some are obvious, like MRI, but how do you decide what is okay to abbreviate and what is not?  For example, I am transcribing for a neurologist/sleep study doc and he uses CPAP, COPD, and JVD a lot.  Are those to be spelled out?  In school, we learned that everything should be spelled out, but I have seen evidence to the contrary in several books.  What is your opinion? ...

Trying To Decide To Test For A Job

I applied for a VR job that I'm not sure I want. I don't mind the VR so much but it doesn't pay much but I really only want a part-time job and this one is full time. Would Appreciate Some Help From Current CMTs To Help Me Decide
Apr 17, 2011

Does your employer offer a differential for being a CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist)?  I am on the fence as to whether to take the CMT test now or just wait until it becomes mandatory.  Would really appreciate some help from current CMTs to maybe sway me one way or the other.  Since I am currently looking for a new employer, this may be the perfect time for me to decide.  If I go the CMT route, then I would probably apply to companies that will pay me more for the C ...

Help! Can't Decide On This Job Offer - Precyse?
Jan 31, 2013

So, I've been agonizing over this decision for a week now. I have a job offer from Precyse, willing to give me the schedule I want and work around my college courses, and about the highest production pay I would expect from any service. This would mean I could leave MModal with a terrible schedule (10 hours on Saturdays), and it is very hard to get time off, terrible management, but I would also be leaving the work I've known for over 10 years. I worked for this hospital (very cushy tr ...

gotten pay down to basically nothing, what else can we do to get more facility money for ourselves.  We cant squeeze facilities more without them going elsewhere, guess we have to squeeze MTs more.  Heck, some have even decided to make MTs pay for platform costs, pay rent for loaned equipement - loaned so MT can do the job MTSO needs done - or started a "mentoring" division so they can basically get work done for free.  What will they think of next???? ...

Q For Amphion MTs
Sep 29, 2010

Anyone ever get fired from Amphion for not meeting line requirements? I work for them FT or more as needed and have yet to make the 12,000 line requirement. I've been with them for 6 months now and have not heard a peep about it. My QA is meeting requirements and my attendance is excellent, but I have yet to make the line count. I've switched my schedule, asked for another team, another account, work extra, racked my brain, all to no answer or just "no". I'm not sure what to do a ...
