Let me get this straight... you are an Indian company who hasn't gotten paid by an MTSO, and now you expect the American MTs on this site to come to your rescue? Ummm... do you know how many American MTs have lost their jobs because of offshoring? Oh... and do you realize that the fact that the offshore MTs will work for peanuts has driven down the pay for the American MTs to the point that we can't earn a decent wage... and we have to accept this because of the threat of sending the work offshore since it's "cost effective." Maybe you're not trying to insult us, but it's a slap in the face. I'm sorry that you haven't gotten paid. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Anyone who puts in a hard day's work deserves to get paid, but your really barking up the wrong tree here. Tell you what... how about you get all the offshore MTs - every single one out there - to collectively demand a line rate comparable to what an American MT would make, and I'm sure some of us American MTs would come together and help fight for workers' rights for you. If the quality of work being done is as excellent as you say, there would be no risk of them sending the work back to us, right?

Collectively, as American MTs, we are professionals, hard working, and hold ourselves to a very high standard. Do we make mistakes? Yes. Do we do what it takes to catch them and correct them if possible? YES!

Part of the frustration with offshoring (other than going broke while losing our jobs) is the point of quality vs. cost. We represent the quality end of the situation, and a your/you're grammar mistake is soooooo unacceptable, as this is a topic probably covered in grammar class in the 3rd grade. Duh on me : )

there are a few questions that I would love to know the answers to: First, what is the average line rate for an Indian MT? I would really love to know just how much is being saved for the MTSOs that are offshoring. Second, is the importance, even possibly the necessity, of becoming a CMT being stressed? If so, how much are they ripping you off for the certification, dues, recertification, etc., and who are you being certified by? I'm curious if the offshore MTs are being scammed into being certified and, if so, are they being offered a discounted rate. Lastly, where are you trained? Are the MTSOs training the offshore workforce? Are the on-line schools who train American MTs training you? I'm just curious as to the profit being made by these greedy organizations (MTSOs, ADHI, MT schools).

And just a comment here too. The topic of offshoring is infuriating. I've lost my job twice due to it. However, I highly doubt that the OP woke up one morning and said to themselves "You know what? I hate Americans, so I'm going to steal their jobs." This person is just trying to make a buck and feed their family too. Ask yourselves this... if you got a wonderful job offer from let's say a company in France, would you refuse to take it because of it's potential effect on the French workforce? Our anger and disgust should be directed at the MTSO bigwigs, the hospitals/clinics more concerned about saving a buck rather than quality, and the laws in this country and/or individual states that allow offshoring in the first place... not someone just trying to make a living. However, OP, I do understand my fellow MTs' anger, and I don't blame them one bit for not being willing to help you, myself included. I hope you've gotten to see our side of things and pass the word. TIA.

This is the best phrase about this post. You see, there once was an MT who failed to get paid by a state-side MTSO. That MT contacted the very large hospital in California asking for payment and threatened to put all the reports on the web if not paid.

California now has a law preventing medical records from going offshort.

My vote is to keep up the trend. Use an offshore source, don't pay them, let the offended entity contact the hospital directly (which is most likely a violoation of their contract) and thereby encourage more laws forbidding offshoring of medical records.

So I want to personally thank this Indian company for bringing this situation to light and applauded their public retalitory efforts. Please send all your Indian associates so that we can encourage banning offshore services completely.

According to a poster on the Offshore board (with an article for confirmation) - the state of Ohio has banned offshore/outsourcing. Hopefully California and Ohio will set a trend for other states to follow suit.

The company I worked for before they merged with Transcend was based out of Ohio as well (Deventure) and they were a GREAT company to work for, but I guess all good things come to an end, especially when a big and GREEDY MTSO takes over.

I think it's a combination of all the above. The little guys can't compete with the bigger ones offering a lower price because they offshore. Plus the biggies are also offering ridiculous TATs because they have a 24-hour workforce as well as VR. The hospitals/clinics don't care about the quality of work... just the bottom line of saving money. The little guys are probably selling out while they still can. What else can they do? It's a sinking ship. Actually, I'm really not 100% sure if poor management has anything to do with it... there's incompetent management everywhere. I really wish I could go back to the days when I did the good old pick up/drop off service with cassettes. Yes... I said it. Even though it required me to get out of my PJs and actually drive somewhere on a daily basis, I was paid decent and respected for the work I did. Again... *sigh*

Oh... and BTW... what a JERK on the other board!! (I hope we can say jerk on here). That's 2 really irritating posts I've seen on here today. Must be something in the water.

Rapid Outsourcing Imaging hired me to work the weekend graveyard shift.  Their transcription platform does not refresh itself, and there is very little work.  What work does come in has an almost immediate TAT, so you are expected to sit in front of your pc for a 10-hour graveyard shift constantly refreshing your screen to check for work.  When work does come in and show up on your screen, it is already 7 minutes into the 20-minute TAT.  I was making about $2 per hour.  ...

This is a two-sided message. It is painfully obvious that no one is learning anything from having failed audits. This being said, I think there are a few sides to this. Just finished a report on a new account..Doc racing through. Cannot understand what she said, so go into docqumanage for similar reports. Obviously people are just cutting and pasting because the name that you have in there for that camera (5 reports) does not exist in medical terminology..But when you slow down and listen to it a few times, what she says is one of the standard lap camera sizes..Dang and I failed an audit for leaving off a letter and adding a word... ...

I'm trying to get an answer from my CCM regarding foreign doctor's dictation and this 5% QA submission. I type for two separate teaching hospitals and are constantly getting new foreign doctors, 3/4s of which cannot even speak English. I won't matter if I got copies of every single report they dictate, there would be no way not to send these reports to QA....are we getting any kind of special consideration towards our QA submissions for these doctors?
