Online Applications - Applicant

Posted: May 14, 2011

I just had to vent!  I am SICK AND TIRED of companies (mostly hospitals) with these l-o-n-g applications asking you to document your whole life history.  These are several pages long, and many times you are restricted to ANSWERS IN BOXES (drop-down menus) so can't enter free text.  Finally, there is NO WAY TO SAVE IT!  So you can get half or most of the way through and have to stop/pause and/or get stuck because of the dang drop-down stuff, when you can resume you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN because there's no way to save the info!!!

What freakin' GENIUSES design this stuff anyway??

I assume, if their online applications are a mess, - their transcription software will be worse.

[ In Reply To ..]
And then I save myself the aggravation of even applying with them.

Understand the rationale, Worse; but remember, the platform will be - developed by a different company, and

be enormously more expensive. I'd imagine the platform gets a lot more attention to quality there since it's the production machine. Ours is always being upgraded. So that'd sure make me wonder too, but I wouldn't let even outrageous frustration outweigh other, more promising information on a company.

Applicant, I so sympathize with your outrageous frustration. All of it, but especially those boxes there's no right answer for. Makes me tighten up just thinking about it. Deep breath. Who closed those U-Tube puppies? :)

If the application software stinks, I call and ask if I - can mail mine. If not, I look elsewhere. nm

An alternative would be to spend 20 seconds checking boxes anyway. - Nothing to lose. NM

Yesterday I spent close to an hour filling out an - extensive online application. (sm)

Part of the time taken was looking up addresses & phone numbers of old employers, references, etc. Everything on that form was a required field, so lots of redundant info had to be typed in, as it would not accept "same". Finally, the application was done, and I hit "submit". But it didn't send, instead, it disappeared into thin air. The reason? Since I had taken so long working on the application, cutting and pasting my cover letter and resume, which had to be slightly altered to have appropriate wording for this job, I had been "timed out" of the application. There was no warning of this as I was working, only after I had hit "submit" and the whole thing disappeared.

Maybe they're testing our frustration levels? If so, mine had been met and then exceeded.

Awful! Been there elsewhere. Just hope you ended with all - your info for the next one. NM

Agreed!! - Cindy

I totally agree with you! Especially if they're even going to hire u in the first place. Seems to me businesses should just take your social security number and legal name and do a background check and be able to hire u off of that info. I once applied for a dishwasher position and i swear the application was 10 pages long and the interview took 45 minutes......pleeeeeeeez!!!! what is America coming to!!!!

Complaint - Companies With Online Applications.
Dec 17, 2010

I just cannot bring myself to spend hours filling out an online application when they already have my resume which has ALL of that pertinent information on it! I also cannot see spending considerable time filling out an online application, then waiting to see IF they respond to me, then IF they do respond with an offer to test, going through the testing to get an offer I can't accept. The online apps, though, are the #1 issue for me.  It is insane.  Through complaining.  T ...

Re: No Response To Job Applications, Resumes Sent:
Feb 24, 2010

I've sent out a few resumes over the past year in hopes of landing a different MT job than the one I have now.  Only ONE place (a hospital I would dearly love to work for!) even acknowledged my application.  The others?  NOTHING.  Even though they continued to run ads for the same job I had applied for.  I never even got to test for any of them. So.... fast forward a few months (or years).  Suppose one of these no-response companies kept my resume and out ...

Working As An IC...putting Company Names On Applications?
Nov 12, 2012

I am applying to a company that would like me to give names and phone numbers of current and previous employers for verification.  I have really only had one "employer" in the last six years.  All the rest are companies I do IC work for, including the one I am working for now.  Do I put the company names and phone numbers down?  It feels somehow wrong, like I am breaking confidentiality or putting their names and numbers down in some sort of behind-their-back way.  Any t ...

Choosing An Online MT Course

Financial aid or pay as you go?   I want to work from home to supplement my income but find that most places you must be certified, have experience, etc....  I have the experience in psychiatry/p ...

How Difficult Is An Online MT School?
Dec 23, 2009

I'm seriously considering enrolling at one of the "top two" MT online schools.  I'm good at English grammar, spelling, type over 100 wpm with 98% accuracy, a perfectionist, and am also very focused.  I do have a full-time job, but can easily devote evenings and time on the weekends to complete the course.  I'm up for a challenge, but after doing quite a bit of research, this sounds really difficult.  Feedback please! ...

Anyone Know A Good Shorthand Online Course?
Mar 19, 2010

I finally got my study material for my administrative assistant course, but according to what I've read so far I may need to learn shorthand.  Transcribing my own scrawl is going to be a big step up from transcribing some of the dictators I've listened to, and I gotta say one good thing for my MT career, I don't need to worry about passing the keyboarding section. Anyone know where I can find a good online course for learning shorthand, that isn't too expensive?  T ...

Which Online Coding Program

Sep 16, 2010
