Another PTer let go...... - Kiki

Also got laid off last week from MM. That's the reason I'm on the Company Board now. My CCM told me that all PTer's are being let go because of lack of work. The reason we are let go is prob a lie but she said that they are laying off PTer slowly but surely. There will most likely be another wave of lay offs soon. They can't afford to lay off everyone at once, for many reasons.

I was terminated today so I feel comfortable expressing what I believe is grounds for a class action suit. (I personally think they let go of people making the top of their pay scale so they could bring in cheaper labor.) Does any one think the new OOW policy should be challenged? Forced to give up PTO, excused absences or make up at their discretion? Were/Are we employees or not? If interested please contact. If you were let go, file for unemployment NOW!!!!

I just got the call - MayraMM

Effective immediately. I've worked for them for 15 years. This outsourcing, tho, makes us higher tier MTs not cost effective. I even have an open Worker's Comp claim, and they still fired me today. My lawyer's on it, but that doesn't stop the stress factor.

Everyone who has been fired, contact your local Bureau of Labor and Industry and file a complaint. Since MModal is outsourcing, they're supposed to be providing compensation for displaced employees, not firing them.

What do you mean, they are outsourcing? - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
You must not mean to India, unless they don't already do that.. I thought they did. Where are they outsourcing to that they haven't been already? Thanks.

Where to? - Tigger

They are outsourcing/offshoring not only to India, but the Philippines and Canada as well as a few other countries. How do I know this? Because I am NOT an MT. I work as a lower level supervisor who will probably lose her job soon as well. I just hope I can recover quickly because I just lost my house and have to move ASAP. It's not looking good. The goal for offshored work is very high. They used to say 50%. I'm not sure what the percentage is now, but it's much higher than that. Better start lookin.....
Outsourcing to Canada? - feenixrising

I am sure we all appreciate your candor and wish you well. It certainly was not our intent to kill the messenger(s). I do find it perplexing that MM or any US based company would be sending work to Canada. Their minimum wage is significantly higher than ours and the few MT jobs I considered in Canada were paying at least 10.5 cpl 3-4 years ago. Does anyone have any recent experience? Unless it is outsourced to the third world via a Canadian corporation to cover their tracks......
Can you get us a bsllpark number on the recent MT terminations? That would be a BIG help. Best of luck to you!!!
You don't believe outsourcing to Canada? - Try Accentus/Nuance

The truth is what it is. Why? Because everything in this country is not for us any longer. That's what you get when you sell your soul to the devil. The lady was right. They are all offshoring and paying us 3 cpl and someone is making money at our hospitals...try being admitted and see what that bill is as compared to your paycheck and no health coverage. Nobody wants to believe the truth.

I was on a life in Canada forum a wee bit ago and there was a big discussion about how Canadian jobs are being off shored to the US. It goes both ways, apparently.

Independent Contractor - Can Work More Than 40 Hrs. A Week, Since Not Working As An Employee
Jul 24, 2012

I've just started working as an independent contractor and I was wondering if an IC can work more than 40 hrs. a week, since not working as an employee. This is all new to me. I've always worked as an employee before. I just couldn't handle the VR anymore. It's a joke and decided it was time to "just say no!" The big boys came up with it and they can deal with it. Not going to ruin my health (body and mind) anymore for minimum wage! That being said, I'm very willin ...

Keep Chipping Away At Employee Benefits MModal
Sep 11, 2013

and you'll see the results of unhappy Healthcare Documentation Specialists <eye roll>. Quality? What's that? Show me the money. The only way to get that with this company is getting through the report as fast as possible. Who will spend time on researching when all they get is hand slapped for inactive time and lack of lines? I bet Shaw makes millions each year while some of us are eeking out minimum wage, barely able to feed our families and pay our bills. Next to go is dec ...

How Long Will I Have Insurance If I Put In My 2 Week Notice With MModal?sm
May 31, 2013

I am working 2 jobs right now. I am making a lot more with my second job and would like to just be able to concentrate on that one but the problem is that it is an IC position. My new job has advised me that they will always have plenty of work to keep me busy and we are actually about 4 days behind on dictation so I'm not worried about that. I'm also next in line for when a position opens up within the hospital to be hired in. I need to be able to plan accordingly as far as findin ...

Statutory Employee Vs. Traditional Employee Status Inquiry
Oct 10, 2013

I'm seeing more and more job postings for statutory employee status.  I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes.  For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status?  The same or more? ...

HAPPY MT WEEK - Have A Great Week
May 17, 2010

To all you wonderful MTs working and slaving your lives away, Happy MT Week.  I appreciate you.  I appreciate your kindness when I have a rant or a rave, when I'm at my wits end with the constant changing around of clients, client profiles and the never ending dings being thrown at me. I appreciate knowing that I am not alone in this struggle. It is because of all of you, and only you MTs on this board that I manage to stay in this game.  We are treated as less than second class citiz ...

At 99.4% This Week, Congratulated That I Improved Over Last Week.

Good grief. I did not change the way I edit. It so depends on how many commas they think you should have. Yes, I made an unusual (for me) mistake last week, but the rest of passing an audit is dumb luck of whether you get a realistic auditor or Ms English wannabe. Everybody must be under pressure because of the cesspool as I see a lot of mistakes when I look up past reports to help with these mush mouths and accents. The time czar wants schedule changes, but I see no problems with turna ...

IC Vs. Employee

Possible That I May Be A MQ Employee Soon
Oct 20, 2011

Hi everyone,  It seems the hospital I am employed by may be outsourcing completely to mq. Rumor has it, if this happens then the 20 or so MTs will be going to MQ or not have a job. Can anyone tell me what I am looking at if that happens, trying to figure out if I should be looking for employment elsewhere.  here are my main questions:  1.  Is there a starting pay or is everyone paid differently? 2.  Is there a schedule or is it flexible? 3.  What kind of benefi ...

New Employee Help

Has anyone out there accepted a job but then not been able to work because of technical issues?  I accepted a FT transcription position, did the necessary paper work and went through the remote set up on my PC.  I trained on the platform for 2 hours and spent another hour or so beginning to learn the account specs and editing a few voice files, all of that went well. Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

Does anyone else work for Medquist? I have been working for them for 8 years now and am getting really fed up with their unrealistic policies!! Statuatory Employee

Curious to know if anyone on this board is a statuatory employee with the company they are working for and outside of the company paying your SS tax and FWT, do you get any type of benefit, i.e., PTO, health, etc. Is it strictly just for tax purposes? IC Versus Employee
May 14, 2011

This post is not what you probably thought it was going to be.  I am not going to list the pros and cons of being an IC or am employee. It appears that MTSOs are "fudging" on these two classifications of workers to get the advantages. For example, as an IC you make your own hours.  There is no schedule; that is the nature of being an IC.  Yet these MTSOs want you to work a set schedule.  Another example:  You are hired as an employee.   Because you're an employee, you shoul ...
